What Could Be...

Post by BurgundyandGoldfaith »

The days go by and this new face of the Washington Redskins organization continues to impress, and these few weeks before the season unofficially begins are going to feel like forever. I can't wait. I really can't wait. Even in searching blogs and pointless speculation on the internet, I have yet to really disagree with anything Jim Zorn seems to be implementing. JJG didn't ever really talk about speed. Zorn has the offense actually talking about the speed and tempo. How Refreshing. I've been one of many obsessive Redskins fans for as long as I've been able to comprehend football, which happens to be about 1994 on. Something made me embrace this magical franchise despite that gut feeling of despair/panic/frustration that has plagued this area since the Superbowls Gibbs brought us.
This feeling has been through a nightmare carousel of quarterbacks, coaches, and so-called stars. It's the product of not being able to even remember the last blowout you saw.. Two score leads never last, and every season unfolds with a twist of drama, dissappointment, and heartache.
Gibbs did not fail by any means. The core of the Redskins team has been through hard times, defeat, then success. Some veterans can play on a team their entire career and never have that trust in the team as a whole. Gibbs set the platform, full of stars in their prime, few holes in the lineup and a real playoff contender. There has been no dropoff in professionalism nor class during the changing of the guards. It feels like it does every year- optimistic. It sounds like every year- everything is looking great, but this year could be....

The NFC East is still big and bad. However, I believe cracks are beginning to show and the paint is beginning to peel off of of these other teams. Only time will tell but with the Draft completely stacking the Offense and the unfortunate/fortunate Jason Taylor situation rounding out the defense, all I really think the Redskins need is a temporary cornerback. Special Teams has never looked so hot. On top of that, the players have really taken to Zorn and from rookies to vets, everyone is going to want to make great first impressions. It is truly time to turn the page, on the Gibbs era, the Sean Taylor tradgedy, and the negativity. Zorn is clear and organized, and it just feels right.

Hail to the Redskins

Dan Snyder is that you?
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

I don't see anything wrong with this post. He didnt' sell anything, he just gave a completely positive spin our beloved team. There was no lavish dreams of Super Bowl predictions (thank you btw!), but a prediction of solidarity and promise for the future. I can't help feeling it was a litle contagious.

The Giants won the Super Bowl and Dallas went 13-3 last year. How exactly are the "cracks beginning to show" on those teams?

In Dallas there could be a lot of pressuere mounting because of the lack of postseason success.

NY obvioulsy will have a lot of pressure, like all SuperBowl victors do, to defend their title.

Phili is only one more injury way to McNabb to throw out the season.

In that scenario, you can definetly see the Skins like a solid underdog. Problem is of course, we have a very big IF at coach.

Look, I just don't see Dallas as that good. I have never understood the Romo love and I certainly am not afraid of Dallas. The Giants got hot at the right time. You can't take that away from them, they are the Champs but no one realistically thinks they will repeat. The Eagles have the easiest schedule in the division (again) but they are a team in disarray - they just don't know it yet. McNab really is a diva, Westbrook gets more credit than he should and is prime to break down at 28. Other than those two why should we be concerned about the Eagles. Trump card on the Eagles - even when McNabb and Westbrook were in their prime and they had TO they still could not get it done - why would they now?

Both the Pukes and the Beagles rely far too heavily on one player. Without T.O. and Westbrook, neither Dallas nor Philly could beat their meat, much less an opponent. The Gnats just took a major blow to their defensive line. Yes, Justin Tuck is the second coming of sack Jesus. Just ask ESPN.

The unbiased truth is that the Redskins did suffer more injuries than any of these teams last season, and did go farther than the Pukes and the Beagles. The Redskins also defeated the eventual SuperBowl Champions. Of all of the NFC East teams, the Redskins are by far the most multi-dimensional, and therefore the best equipped to handle injuries to key players.

Oddly enough, the Cardinals, not the Pukes, Beagles or Gnats are right behind the Redskins in terms of multi-dimensional offense in the NFC.

If you lived in Philly or knew much about the sports scene there, you'd know that Kevin Kolb will step in immediately and throw 50 touchdowns.

According to those psychos, McNabb is the reason they haven't won yet. It's unbelievable that a QB that good is so underappreciated there.

The biggest problem with Philly, is that there is no IQ requirement for residency there.

Sure there is. It has to be in the single digits.
There's a reason their stadiums are always built with jails.

No, the Philly sports fans are very smart when it comes to baseball, basketball and hockey. But with the Eagles it is almost a cult and there is serious group think going on. If you listen to them the Skins will win three games because they stink and the Eagles are bound for the Super Bowl. I used to laugh at the Eagle fans when I first moved to Philly but now I actually feel sorry for them because they've hyped themselves into such a frenzy that they cannot see any snese of reality. They are not a good football team. They have not made the playoffs in two of the last three years and the one in which they did was with Jeff Garcia at QB. They have helped create the paranoia that defines McNabb and causes him to be a diva.

I have come to believe that the Eagles will not win a Super Bowl. I cannot prove this in any way, just a feeling. They are totally and completely nuts.

But, the city is great and the people are salt of the earth good - except when it comes to the Eagles when they get possessed by some "Cult of Eagle" phenominon.

I have been to Philly many times, and I must say...

Courtroom in the stadium... all that needs saying.

I'd have to disagree with you my friend Cleg... Dullas and the Giants (simply cause they are the champs) do put a little fear in me. Dullass has been real strong the last 2 years and this year they are stronger. Granted, they love their criminals down there but that criminal will be a big impact on that defense. Not to mention the RB they picked up in the draft is pretty vicious. Giants; well just because Straham isn't there anymore doesn't mean they won't still bring the heat like they did last year. Those young d-linemen are pretty swift & strong and they find their way to the backfield ridiculously fast. The positive thing is we beat them both last year and I believe we've gotten stronger obviously on offense so "should" beat them each twice this year. As for the Eagles schedule being the easiest, I have to disagree with that too, especially because there's only 1 or 2 teams that they play that we don't play. Maybe the days/times might be better, but that's about it.

But that is when the people are afflicted by the curse that is the Eagles. Monday (sometimes Tuesday) through Saturday they are nice people.

My point, to be more clear is not that I don't think Dallas and NY are going to be good but I don't think they should be annointed champions just yet. From seeing these teams twice a year there is not much that they have that scares me. Would I be surpirsed if either won the division, no. Nor would I be surprised if the Skins win the division. I would definately be surprised if the Iggles win the division.
