Wizards Extend Jamison

Jamison is the most consistent, and the least injured of the Wizards "Big Three." It was definitely a smart move locking him up.
Baron Davis just hit the free agent market, however, so I don't know if I can say the same about locking up Gilbert Arenas. Davis didn't miss a game last season. Arenas hardly played. Either player will cost a fortune, but does anyone trust Arenas' knee at this point? I don't even know if he does.

I'm with GSPODS on this one, were I Ernie Grunfelfd, I'd be in no particular hurry to retain him. I'd want assurances for assurances for that knee. In fact, I'd be reluctant to make a deal any longer than three seasons.

Agreeing with GSPODS can kill a reputation quickly. Don't make a habit of it.
I can't reasonably believe anyone is going to offer Arenas a $100 million contract. Not when both Baron Davis and Corey Maggette are available and probably cheaper.

Golden State already did... 5 year deal worth over 100 mil.

I saw that. I guess they aren't expecting Baron Davis back. But I'd let Arenas go at that price. His knee isn't going to get any better. He won't play long enough to fill the contract.

i really think his knee wil be fine, but thats probably the optimistic fan side of me talking. i dont know
what i do know is Arenas is one of only a few players in the league who can just take over a game. He goes into this mode where no ones gonna stop him. And if he still is that player then he is worth the 100 mil (no one is really worth that much IMO but if thats what ya gotta pay then what ever). I just hope that IF they do re-sign him that he is that same player.

Except against the Cavs.

Touche. I think it's fairly obvious the Wizards aren't going to be advancing in the playoffs with their current lineup. They are going to have to make a change somewhere. The obvious change is Arenas. I'm not anti-Gilbert, but this lineup is going nowhere fast.

I was thinking the same thing. Jamison at the 3 and Butler at the 2 sounds like a really nice combo, especially with Stevenson, Mason, Young, Blatche, etc. as role players.
In a perfect world, Brand and Baron Davis would look goos in Wizards uniforms.

the current line up we have works if all of them stay healthy. When all of them are healthy they are one of the top teams in the East and come compete with any one.
and moving Jamison to the 3 just doesnt make any sense. if you take him away from the basket, you might as well not even have him. even tho he has a nice shot, hes way more effective in the paint where he does those crazy circus layups around defenders. he's not much of a driving scorer, he posts up. Plus he wont be able to grab as many rebounds as he does so well, averaging over 10 the last 2 years i think.
theres no need to sign these big FA, keep who we have and maybe sign some role palyers that can come off thebench. and continue building through the draft. we've already gotten to a good start with young and blatche, and hopefully McGee. Oleksiy Pecherov just sucks tho, wasted pick. the guy looks drunk 24/7 and has no athletic ability. dont know what they ever saw in him

I have to disagree. Any lineup that can't win the division, the conference, and make it beyond the first round of the playoffs does not work.
Moving Jamison to the 3 does not necessarily take him away from the basket on offense. What is does do is make him play defense on smaller and probably quicker 3's, which would be a concern, except that Jamison isn't known for his defense in any case. Those 10 rebounds Jamison gets are wonderful, except that Haywood, Butler and company don't secure enough rebounds to balance things out. The Wizards haven't had consistent multiple rebounders since Wes Unseld and Elvin Hayes. If a team can't consistently out-rebound their opponent, that team will lose games it should win.
If the Wizards had Haywood and Thomas combining for 10 rebounds per game, Brand getting 10 rebound per game, and Jamison getting 10 rebounds per game, then they would score more fast break baskets with Butler, Arenas?, Stevenson, Mason, Young, et. al.. They would give up fewer second chance baskets to opponents, which is the primary reason they give up more points than they score. They would get more free throw opportunities by default. More possessions equates to more free throw opportunities. They would limit opponent's to fewer field goal attempts by virtue of having greater time of possession on offense.
With the current roster, the Wizards have to get these numbers to be competitive:
20 - Arenas
20 - Jamison
20 - Butler
10 - Stevenson
10 - Haywood
05 - Daniels
05 - Blatche
05 - Mason
05 - Young
05 - Songaila
With Elton Brand:
15 - Arenas
15 - Jamison
15 - Butler
15 - Brand
10 - Stevenson
10 - Haywood
05 - Daniels
05 - Blatche
05 - Mason
05 - Young
05 - Songaila
Same number of points, but less is required from Jamison, Arenas and Butler. This is assuming Arenas is still wearing a Wizards uniform. If Arenas goes elsewhere, that will make Brand or Corey Maggette or both necessary. There are numerous unconfirmed reports that the Wizards have offered Arenas a max contract, but there are also reports that other teams have done the same.

this is good. he is a key part of the team. and since we signed him gil will sign but idk what is taking him so long. i think i heard hes in china or something so he cant negotiate that well. if we can keep our, the original, Big Three together we can give the eastern conference a good run
