On Friday June 6th Redskins line coach Joe Bugel discussed the state of the offensive line. Serious Redskins fans have cause to be concerned, after injuries have ravaged the unit the last few seasons. The Redskins need stability in there front five if they hope to get continued development from quarterback Jason Campbell.
Coach Bugel was asked about the overall state of the offensive line on Friday, His response seemed optimistic. ” The front five is going to pretty good. You take Samuels, Kendall, Rabach,Thomas and Jansen - that’s a high quality veteran group. We feel very good about them.” Later in the interview the injury issue was brought up, Bugel was quick to dismiss any concern. ” You can’t worry about injuries, there part of the game. Plus Randy (Thomas) and Jon (Jansen) are real quick healers” Despite the positive talk coming out of Washington’s camp, the injury issue is of major concern to me. The front five have to play and play well if we are going to have any opportunity to run the football. They also must be able to keep our future ( Jason Campbell ) upright and free of any major contact.
A nice piece of news coming from the Skins coach, was him recalling his first impressions of Rookie 3rd round pick Chad Rinehart. ” He is going to be a good player. We really liked him in the Senior Bowl, he can play tackle and both guards.” That addition of a quality backup could prove valuable. ” We were fortunate to get him where we did. Because there were a lot of teams that really liked him.”
I look for the Redskins offensive line to look much improved this season. They return all five starters, and they look to have no long term issues from the injury bug that has bit the team the last few seasons. They added some quality reserves in the draft and via rookie free agents.

Haha!
It's true, though. Coaches are well trained to say the right thing. That said, I hope Joe is right!
Randy Thomas potential pro bowler, Jon Jansen potential pro bowler, Pete Kendal solid starter last year, Chris Samuels regular pro bowler, Stephon Heyer solid rookie season as well. We also have a young rookie in Chad Rinehart.
If Randy Thomas and Jansen stay healthy this O line will be a strength of the team again. Depth and injurys were the problem.
I dont worry about the skill of the line. When healthy they are one of the best. In fact if healthy they probably are.
