Based on his college performance, what do you think of the Colt Brennan draft selection in the late rounds? Worst case it was a wasted selection but does he remind you of Brett Farve?

Yes, I think Brennan has the capability to be as good of an NFL QB as "Brett Farve".

As for Brett Favre, I think Brennan's career will be exactly like his, only the complete opposite....

This thread reminds me of this thread:

http://www.the-hogs.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26733

To address the post, no Colt Brennan does not remind me, or anyone else who watched the film, of Brett Favre. Brennan is smaller, lighter, more accurate, and has wet dreams about having Favre's arm strength.
Brennan is also likely to be on IR this season.
Truthfully, I expect more out of any number of other Redskins draft selections than I do out of Colt Brennan.
Realistically, if Jason Campbell were to either underperform or to be injured, and I am not hoping for either, we would once again be seeing Todd Collins.
Brennan won't play a down this season. We'd see Antwan Randle-El at emergency QB before we'd see Colt Brennan this season.

I think we'd be better served by waiting until Colt Brennan plays a series or two before making comparisons to one of the top 10, if not top 5 QB's in the history of the NFL.

Was this a wasted draft selection? No. Collins won't be around much longer. Hollenbach is no one's first choice to backup Jason Campbell. And it isn't as though there were so many more appealing options on the draft board. If a team gets any game production at all out of 6th and 7th round draft selections, the team should consider itself lucky.

I think Brennen in the 6th was a good deal. 70% accuracy is no joke regardless of the offensive system. I haven't had a chacnce to see the 31 records he did break, but I'm sure that also should account for something. As GSPODS stated, I really don't expect to see him this year on the field. I don't think that ARE is suited better for QB than him in emergencies, but I'm not trying to debate that point. As for comparing him to Brett Favre? I think you need to lay off the illicits.

I'm a huge JC fan and hope he holds down the QB position in Washington for many years. But, we will see Colt in preseason and it will be interesting if Colt lights it up. Not from the perspective that it will start a QB controversy, I believe Colt will sit and learn for a few years. But I do think any success Colt may have in a preseason game will get folks thinking and the media talking.

For the QB controversy, there's really nothing to gauge Zorn's game plan. Zorn has good things to say about both of 'em, so it should be interesting to say the least.

One thing about a new coach coming in from outside the program is that he has no allegiance to anyone on the team. I know he really likes JC, I do too. BUT, all the players feel as though every job is really an open competition for the starting slot.

I was curious about this. So I looked at the NCAA Record Books.

Here are a list of some of the other people who have had 70%+ accuracy seasons:

Chris Hatcher, Valdosta St.
Dusty Bonner, Valdosta St. (74.7% for the season)
Brett Elliott, Linfield
Mike Simpson, Eureka
Shawn Knight, William & Mary
Bill Borchert, Mount Union
Chad Johnson, Pacific Lutheran (70.2% for his [b]career[/]b)
Chad Friehauf, Colorado Mines
Chase Holbrook, New Mexico St.
Philip Rivers, North Carolina St.
Tim Couch, Kentucky

From that list, it doesn't seem to be a great predictor of anything, unfortunately....

I was using that as only one of his upsides. I haven't dethroned JC for him, just trying to be positive.

Nothing wrong with positivity at all, it's just some digging I did because I was curious.

He may never play a down in the NFL, but he may also be the best QB in the 2008 draft... actually it's very possible they got the two best WRs, the best Tight End, the best QB, and the best Punter in this draft...

I like the optomism, but I'm just not sold on Brennan. We may never find out, I guess. I agree about the rest of the guys though!

sadly we wont get to see Colt this preseason.. he is hurt and will be put on the IR.. we may never see him in a game.. if he becomes healthy enough to participate in the Off Season workouts next year he will be lucky just to make the team My 2 cents

I don't think that's accurate. Colt will not be placed on IR and he very well could play in one of our five preseason games. Not only will he be healthy enough to participate in camp, he may be able to go by next week...

Redskins.com wrote:When the Redskins resume OTAs on June 2, Brennan could be ready to participate in the quarterback practice rotation.

"I'm going to work hard with the rehab and training, and hopefully get cleared to participate in the OTAs," Brennan said recently. "And then I'll just take it from there. I don't want to push it and I don't want to set myself back. I want to let the doctors keep me steady and going in the right direction."

The coaches are going to be looking for Campbell to become a force this season. If that happens, I suspect we will see Brennan groomed to be a pre-season performer, to increase his trade value, ala Ron Wolfe, to be converted into a 2nd or 3rd Round draft pick from some team desperate for a quarterback of the future.

If Campbell does not take control of this team this year, you will see Brennan groomed to compete for a starting job in the 2009 season.

My 2 cents

Jason Campbell is learning the west coast offense now. Alot different from Al Saunders offense. So Jason better become a fast learner or he has a young gun right on his tail.

JC should be fine. He has new weapons to play with.
Sean Taylor starting free safety Heavens team!

Yeah, good stuff, trey, I agree. Collins has a year or two left in his tank and won't be around for long, so having Campbell and Brennan, two young guys, is ideal. We also have five preseason games and there's no way Campbell and Collins take all those snaps. So I think Colt is going to get plenty of reps. Much like with Marcus Mason, I'm actually curious to see what the kid can do in this offense.

I hope they do what is best for Colt's health, but I really would like to see him play. I don't know if he will be a good NFL quarterback, but he is super accurate and has a lightning quick release. Those are good attributes for this system that we are likely to run. He is definetly a good insurance policy.

I love Colt Brennan, he needs work on his mechanics to suceed at the NFL level, its good for us with Jim Zorn as our new HC, and good for Brennan who is now playing for a coach who saw something in him, I hope he adapts to the NFL. Its no secret these days that it takes 2 good QB's to win in the NFL, I hope we have will or do have 2.
