Greatest College Teams of all Time!
I just wanted to get everyones take. I Personally think the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers are the greatest college team ever. They were led by one of the best coaches ever in Tom Osbourne also had in my opinion the best college football player ever in QB/RB Tommie Frazier. They had a backfield that included Ahman Green and Lawrence Phillips. Not to mention a terrifying defense.
The team went 12-0 and won the National Championship. They also won the National Championship the previous year 1994. All the pressure the whole season and in the middle of the season they lost one of there QBs Brook Berringers in a plane crash.
The whole season they crushed opponents. The average score was 49-18. In the National Championship game they crushed no. 2 Florida 62-24 , FLorida gained those points in garbage time. Never in my whole life have I seen a team so dominant NFL or college. For any of you who hasnt seen clips of Tommy Frasier here you go enjoy. PUt up your arguments folks. I dont see any team being better than the 95 Huskers.
Here is a couple clips of them on youtube.

231 Division I college football teams have had undefeated and untied records going all the way back to Princeton in 1870. In the modern era (roughly since 1960) there have been 53 undefeated football teams.
Going undefeated is not a barometer, it is a requirement to even be in the discussion.
The 2001 Miami team had 28 players go on to the NFL. 1995 Nebraska had 26.
Professional talent is how I judge great collegiate teams. Had Frazier and Bollinger been available, the 1995 Nebraska team would have equalled the 2001 Miami team for professional players with 28.
Since these teams never play each other, I have to call it a draw.

2001 Hurricanes, no doubt about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Miami_Hurricanes_football_team
The Hurricanes scored 512 (42.6 ppg) points while yielding only 117 (9.75 papg). Miami beat opponents by an average of 32.9 points per game, the largest margin in the school's history, and set the NCAA record for largest margin of victory over consecutive ranked teams (124-7). The offense set the school scoring record, while the stout defense led the nation in scoring defense (fewest points allowed), pass defense, and turnover margin. Additionally, the Hurricane D scored eight touchdowns of its own. Six players earned All-American status and six players were finalists for national awards, including Maxwell Award winner, Ken Dorsey, and Outland Trophy winner, Bryant McKinnie. Dorsey was also a Heisman finalist, finishing third.
Among the numerous stars on the 2001 Miami squad were: quarterback Ken Dorsey; running backs Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Najeh Davenport, and Frank Gore; tight end Jeremy Shockey; wide receiver Andre Johnson, and Roscoe Parrish; tackles Bryant McKinnie and Joaquin Gonzalez; defensive linemen Jerome McDougle, William Joseph, and Vince Wilfork; linebackers Jonathan Vilma and D.J. Williams; and defensive backs Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, and Phillip Buchanon. Additional contributors included future stars Kellen Winslow II, Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle, Vernon Carey, and Samuel webster. In all, an extraordinary 16 players from the 2001 Miami football team were drafted in the first-round of the NFL Draft (5 in the 2002 NFL Draft: Buchannon, McKinnie, Reed, Rumph, and Shockey; 4 in 2003: Johnson, Joseph, McDougle, and McGahee; 6 in 2004: Carey, Taylor, Vilma, Wilfork, Williams, and Winslow; and 1 in 2005: Rolle).

Well if you're going by professional talent, then I think the Canes win easily. Nebraska may have had almost the same number of players drafted, but compare the NFL success of the Miami and Nebraska players and it's not even close imo.

The question is about the best TEAM, not necessarilly the team with the most talent.

I understood the question, but I think these two teams are very close.
I was refering to
I don't think that is the best or even a good way to judge teams.

I guess you didn't figure out that I pay almost no attention to college football. And I won't until they eliminate the BCS and the Polls. So, the only way I can make a judgment is based upon how many players make it to the next level.
The reason I choose the Cornhuskers 1995 ahead of USC 2004 and MIami 2001 is a couple reasons.
1. Tom Osbourne was the head coach. Miami had a Larry Coaker? USC Pete Caroll? I think Tom Osbourne wins here.
2. Miami 2001 has the most talent ever. Ed Reed, Sean Taylor, Mcgahee, Portis, Frank Gore, SHockey, Winslow Jr, Buchannon, Vilma, Dan Morgan, etc..... Too many to name.
Anyhow I know Miami had the most talent. I witnessed both teams. The thing about Nebraska 95 is they managed to win back to back. Nebraska endured a very trying season as well. I just think coaching and character go in Nebraskas favor. Losing one of the Main players in Brook Berringer and then winning the whole thing.
I have alot of respect for that MIami team. That team had Sean Taylor on the squad. I just am telling the truth. I seen both , I am giving my honest take. I think Nebraska 95 wins 28 Miami 2001 17.

The thing about Nebraska 95 is they managed to win back to back.
Miami would have one back to back championships as well if it hadn't been for a phantom pass interference call that extended the game.
I am giving my honest take. I think Nebraska 95 wins 28 Miami 2001 17.
No way would that Nebraska team have held Miami to only 17 points. They didn't have a corner who could cover Andre Johnson. They didn't have enough athletes at safety or linebacker to cover either Shockey or Winslow. Their defense was good, but not physical enough to stop Portis, Gore, McGahee, and Davenport. Not to mention Miami's offensive line, which gave up just 4 sacks the entire season.
In 1995, Nebraska gave up 21 points to Oklahoma St, 28 to Arizona St, 21 to Washington St, 25 to Kansas St, 21 to Colorado, and 24 to Florida. So the idea that the 2001 Canes, which averaged 47 points against ranked opponents, would score only 17 points is pretty ridiculous.
The main reason why I think that Miami would've beaten Nebraska is Miami's defense. They held opponents to under 10 points a game and I think that Nebraska's one dimensional offense would've struggled against them. The defense was stout on the line with Wilfork and the linebackers were too fast and physical for the option to be successful against them. Nebraska would've had zero success through the air against a secondary which had Sean Taylor as a bench player.
Suck and Luck
Nebraska had a powerful Offensive line. They had a dynamic QB in Tommie Frasier. The team averaged 399 yards rushing a game. 50 points a game.
Lawrence Phillips and Ahman green also helped tow the load.
Miamis secondary was legendary, Linebackers outstanding small in size but very athletic and quick, the Defensive line was very solid. holding opponents to an average of 10 points. They held a couple teams to zero points. Many blowouts that year.
Its hard to say. I think Miamis front seven would be overpowered by the front seven of Nebraska. MIamis star power was the secondary. No team could even pass on the Canes. Teams didnt gain much on the ground either but they got more in the running game then they did in the air.
It could go either way. Miami 2001 and Nebraska 95 two very different styles both two of the greatest ever. Id say they are no 1 and 2 either way. I also liked the 97 Wolverines, the way they won that year. A saavy defensive Heisman winner in Woodson. Woodson and those Wolverines get an honorable mention on the sheer guts they showed that year.
