From JReid:
Rookie tight end Fred Davis, who missed the final practice of minicamp today, has met with Redskins personnel, according to someone familiar with the situation. Davis spoke with Coach Jim Zorn, but we don't have any details about their conversation right now. We're still working to find out exactly what happened, but it appears Davis had a late night Saturday. Earlier Sunday, Zorn said that, because the Redskins had not heard from Davis this morning, team security became involved. "Either there was some real trouble and we needed to find him or he screwed up," Zorn said after practice. "I haven't even got to talk to him yet. I know he's been found; I believe it's more in the 'I screwed up' category." That is also the way things appeared to Davis's brother, Kedran. "I haven't talked to him yet, but I talked to his roommate out there, and I'm not hearing anything to really be worried about," Kedran said in phone interview from Los Angeles. "Really, I'm assuming it's nothing bad because he always calls me if there's something wrong. "And like I said, I haven't talked to him yet, but I know him. And knowing Frederick the way I do, he was probably just out late and he overslept, he probably just didn't hear the alarm. And I know he wasn't feeling too good the other day." The team located Davis at some point during practice, Kedran said. "I know they know where he is, that's what I heard," he said. "He's supposed to go up there and talk to the coach. He could be up there right now. I'm sure that after he talks to them, he'll call me and let me know everything that's going on. But I really don't think it's anything bad." The Redskins selected Davis with one of their three second-round picks - No. 48 overall - in the April 26-27 draft. As a senior at USC, where he finally thrived after being converted from a wide receiver to a tight end, Davis had a personal-best 62 receptions for 881 yards (a 14.2-yard average) and eight touchdowns. Davis, who holds all of the Trojans' season and career receiving records for tight ends, was the recipient of last season's Mackey Award, presented to college football's top tight end. "Fred worked real hard to get to where he's at and he's going to work real hard for the Redskins," Kedran said. "I haven't heard anything that I'm worried about."

Stop being so hard on the guy. Everybody makes mistakes at 22 yrs old. I guess you never missed work because you hung out too late huh ? Lets just hope he learns not to continue to make the same mistakes.

I agree. As long as he just had a late night and overslept, and wasn't out getting into fights, etc, I am cool with it. He is 22 years old, pobably just wanted to have a good time. At this point, I believe the coaching staff, in particular Zorn, will be able to handle the situation appropriately.
My children, gather round! No retreat, no surrender; that is Spartan law. And by Spartan law we will stand and fight... and die. A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breaths to defend it!

Hahaha!
No I can honestly say I have ever missed work because I hung out too late. And I don't even make millions of dollars incentive.
Anyone who misses any kind of work because they overslept due to "hanging out to late" is an irresponsible moron. Someone with a history of work ethic problems who oversleeps and misses a manditory workout is even worse.

Work ethic problems? You must be referring to someone else. You can't possibly be referring to a wide receiver turned tight end who won the award for being the best in the nation at his position. I'd use more caution with the word "moron" because all it does in this context is give people like me ideas about where the word should be directed.
I don't recall reading anything about Davis having a questionable work ethic and missing one practice isn't the end of the world, but missing practice because you were out late isn't exactly a sign of maturity and this isn't the best way to endear yourself to your coaches and teammates. Hopefully he learns from this and doesn't make the same mistake again.

Yeah, talk about starting your new job off on the wrong foot!

What!?! Davis started a passing route off on the wrong foot, too?
Now, that is the last straw.
I think the phrase "skips practice" is a bit harsh, that implies he did it intentionally. I would also add that the "out late at night" is speculation and unwarranted at this point as well. They said he overslept. BFD. Kelly was asked about the changes coming and he mentioned that he hasn't gotten up before 11:00 AM in a very long time. It's an adjustment. Even Zorn made a point not to bash the guy before he found out what happened, and even if he did screw up and overslept, it ain't that big of a deal.
And yes, Skinsfan55, anyone who could possibly forget to set his alarm and accidentally oversleeps is an absolute moron. Good one...

Yea maybe after two or three years at a job, but no, I think you would be very hard pressed to find anyone who oversleeps and doesn't come to work on the third day of work. You add in that he was out late...doesn't sound good
Miss you 21

I think it's very strange that a room-mate would allow you to oversleep. Someone in the organization dropped the ball as well not to keep an eye on at least the top 3 picks to make sure these guys are accounted for.

He is gotten used to Southern California living. I would say about 90 percent of people in Southern California has missed work due to not setting the alarm and then just calling in sick.
Right now I just feel bad for the kid. Its not the kind of impression anybody wants to make on day 2 of their first job. Pretty embarrassing.
I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

But on top of that, what happened when he did wake up?
Did he get dressed and tried to rush out there? Why didn't we see him running out on the field late?
So, maybe he got up late, and what, he just stayed in his room? That would be a reason for concern if he didn't even make an effort to get to the field once he did wake up.
It's not my intent to sound harsh but unless Davis tells us what happened, I don't see much point in extending the speculation. He overslept, that was dumb but I'm certainly guilty of that so I don't think less of him. He made a mistake and will have ample time to address it.

Good point. It's not as though Davis called from the County Lock-up, and Zorn didn't seem to be overly concerned about a one-time occurrence.
I'm sure a second time won't be the charm but unless or until a second time ...
Much ado about nothing. Yeah, it was a bonehead play for the rookie, but not the end of the world. I agree with previous posters, it coulda been a lot worse, he could've been arrested.
For all we know his late night may have consisted of studying the playbook. He didn't miss the first two days, right? Maybe the coach gave him homework.
Either way, I don't think it's a capital offense...it's not like he's holding out for more money in a contract dispute.

I did hear that Davis has had some "work ethic" issues at USC related in part to missing meetings and practices. He's in the big boy league now, getting paid big boy money. So let's see if he can adjust.
I'm sure the vets will have a very special "tasking" for him... he won't do it again.
