Pukes get Pacman

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Pukes get Pacman

Post by yupchagee »

Cowboys acquire Pacman from Titans

Buzz Up PrintNASHVILLE, TENNESSEE (TICKER) —Adam “Pacman” Jones has a new home.

The Tennessee Titans on Wednesday have agreed to trade the suspended All-Pro cornerback to the Dallas Cowboys.

While the Titans did not offer any details, the Dallas Morning News said the Cowboys will send a fourth-round pick - No. 126 overall - to Tennessee in this weekend’s NFL draft.

Jones also must pass a physical before the trade will be finalized.

The deal is fraught with uncertainties, with the most daunting obstacle being whether NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will reinstate Jones, who was suspended indefinitely in April 2007.

Goodell previously had said Jones could be traded while on suspension and that he would review the cornerback’s status before training camps open in late July.

Should Goodell lift the suspension, the Cowboys will send the Titans an additional draft pick in 2009 which will be conditional on the amount of playing time Jones sees this season, according to the Dallas Morning News.

However, if Jones is not allowed to play, Dallas will receive a pick back from Tennessee in 2009.

Jones is expected to receive a new contract from the Cowboys.

Under his current contract, which runs through the 2009 campaign, Jones is scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.9 million next season - a figure the Cowboys reportedly are not willing to pay.

A lightning rod for trouble, Jones was suspended for the entire 2007 season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

On December 6, Jones pleaded no contest to a reduced charge in a Las Vegas strip club melee which preceded a triple shooting that left a man paralyzed.

As part of the plea bargain, Jones was sentenced to year of probation and agreed to offer testimony about the gunman. Prosecutors dropped two charges of coercion, a felony carrying a possible sentence of one to six years in prison.

Prosecutors are hoping that Jones can identify the gunman who opened fire February 19, 2007 outside the Minxx Gentlemen’s Club, where Jones had earlier been involved in a brawl.

Last Friday, Arvin Kenti Edwards was arrested in Yakima, Washington, on six felony charges and is awaiting extradition to Nevada, where the case will move forward.

On the heels of that arrest, Las Vegas police charged that Jones paid $15,000 in “extortion” money to Edwards, who allegedly had threatened the player and his family.

The Tennessean reported that Jones had made two payments - in the amounts of $1,500 and $1,800 to Edwards’ girlfriend, Sheena Saltz.

The reminder of the cash allegedly went to Edward Morris, who is a friend of Edwards. A police warrant said Morris “is known in Atlanta as a street robber and killer with credit for several recent homicides in the Atlanta area.”

These latest revelations could further impact Goodell’s decision on whether to reinstate Jones.

Despite his litany of off-field problems, Jones would provide the Cowboys with a dynamic cover cornerback and an explosive weapon on special teams.

An All-Pro selection in 2006, Jones appeared in 15 games with the Titans that season, recording 51 tackles and four interceptions. He returned one of those picks for a touchdown and also emerged as one of the top punt returners in the league, averaging 12.9 yards and scoring three TDs in 34 attempts.

He's a great player. . .when he's on the field. . .but I honestly love the Cowboys stacking up with questionable character. You can hold a locker room like that together for a time, but not forever. . .

This isn't something that I would want the Skins to do, but It's a pretty good move from the Cowboys perspective imo. Yes, he's a HUGE character risk. However, they're only giving up a 4th rounder so if he does act up it wont cost them much to get rid of him. If he stays out of trouble (not all that likely) then they've just gotten themselves a top 10 talent for a 4th rounder and can start Newman and Pac Man in a division with a serious lack of wide receiver talent. They've managed to keep TO and Tank Johnson under control so maybe they know what they're doing (hopefully not).

Maybe. But after Dallas' Cinderella regular season last year, they are ripe for a face-plant. Something to wipe the smirk off of Romo's face.

I hope that you're right. Add in Wade Phillips, who isn't exactly a disciplinarian, and all of these bad character guys could cause a lot of problems for Dallas. All they need is a small losing streak for all of the Jason Garrett rumors to start.

I hope he doesn't get reinstated.... or I hope he isn't as good as he was, because he was a helluva player. I also hope Tony Romo gets in a car accident.

How's 0-2 in the playoffs for anti-smirking?

Wow. All this time I thought football players were human beings and could actually suffer like us normal folks do. I don't like the cowboys and I hope they lose to the skins every time, but I don't wish them physical harm. Maybe you should rethink your statement.

I'm not complaining about that. :) I just don't want to have to wait until January. . .although Romo's crumble has been pretty sweet the past two years.

I wish him harm too. Although, I wish it would come from the hands of Carter or even Landry on a blitz.

Seeing him roll around on the ground. That'd be sweeeet.

Okaaaay. Maybe it would be good that he gets up from the hit... Maybe with a limp... wishing a limp is not too bad right?

I didn't hear any Redskins fans complaining when LaVar Arrington ended Troy Aikman's career.

I can't imagine things would be any different if Tony Romo were to be retired by a Redskins player. That doesn't mean we should be wishing death on anyone. Some of us have apparently learned nothing from Sean Taylor.

Romo seems like a good kid and I don't wish any ill fate on him except losing. Wishing Something horrific on someone is just not a good thing especially after what we endured last season.

Back to the subject. Pacman has a mentor now. It seems that he and Michael Irvin have become close with all the radio appearances. With a role model like Mike what could could ever go wrong?

Before we get ahead of ourselves, is there any concrete evidence that Jones will definitely be reinstated? Is it possible the Cowboys traded a draft pick for a player who won't be eligible at the beginning of this season?

No. That is why Dallas has an escape clause, that essentially returns the draft pick if he's not reinstated.

Were it not Adam Jones we are talking about, this would be a sweet deal for Dallas. But, it is Jones. If he comes back, the only coach I see in the NFL who might stand a chance of managing him WAS Tuna (as much as it makes me sick to say it, this man knows how to manage players, and does not take any crap). If Jones comes back, he will not only run all over the Son of Bum, but he will also disrupt the ego balance on the team, sending TO into a tail spin.

If he is reinstated, that is when the fun will begin.

Not to mention that while I'm certain he's worked out for Dallas, the man hasn't played professional football in quite some time. This might be a decent bet for Dallas but that's a far cry from a sure thing.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday that the Cowboys have been given no assurances that Jones will be allowed to play this season.

“Zero,” Goodell said. “I don’t have any expectations what I might do. I’ve said I will decide before training camp based on how he conducts himself and how seriously I think he understands his responsibilities as an NFL player. ”

The two sides agreed to a four-year contract, but with no signing bonus, according to a source. The deal will include yearly bonuses tied to Jones’ continued presence on the Cowboys roster. He will get an advance on his base salary if and when he gets reinstated.

Jones must still approve the language of the deal that will likely include activity restrictions.

As part of the trade, the Cowboys will send the Titans a fourth-round pick in this weekend’s draft. If he is reinstated and on the roster in 2008, The Cowboys will also send the Titans a sixth round pick in 2009.

If Jones isn’t reinstated the Cowboys will get their fourth round pick back in 2009. And if he is reinstated but suspended again, the Cowboys will get a fifth-round pick from the Titans.

I love the move.. Give up nothing for the chance to have a great player. It is a win win situation.

I hate to say it but bravo to the Cowboys this could be a huge move that could pay huge dividends in the future.

I wish we had taken a chance on the kid. He has a lot to prove after everything that has happened I believe truly that, if given the chance, he will shine as a nickel corner and punt returner and will eventually return to his starting form.

I hate that we have to play hm twice a year. (if he plays of course)

HTTR, not like we dont need a corner right now.....
