Gumbel Leaving NFL Network
Gumbel decides to leave NFL Network
National Football League
Bryant Gumbel has decided to give up his duties as the play-by-play voice for the NFL Network’s eight-game package of NFL games, NFL Network announced Firday. Gumbel served as the play-by-play announcer for NFL Network’s Thursday and Saturday Night Football games for the past two seasons.
"I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me," said Gumbel. "But we've agreed that we'd all be better served going in different directions. There are a lot of talented people at NFL Network. I thank them, I wish them well, and I have no doubt that they will be very successful going forward."
Gumbel, who has won multiple Emmy awards throughout his distinguished career, teamed with Cris Collinsworth the past two seasons on the NFL Network games. NFL Network will begin a search for a new play-by-play announcer to work alongside Collinsworth immediately.
"We appreciate everything Bryant did in helping us launch our NFL Network game telecasts," said NFL Network President and CEO Steve Bornstein. "Bryant helped create interest in our first foray into televising NFL regular-season games. He is one of the great broadcasters of our time and we are honored to have worked with him."
NFL Network airs seven days a week, 24 hours a day on a year-round basis and is the first television network fully dedicated to the NFL and the sport of football. For more information, log onto www.nfl.com/nflnetwork. NFL.com is the exclusive internet home of NFL Network.

Too bad they didn't dump Collinsworth. I'm positive he is the reason Gumbel is leaving. I know he'd be my reason for leaving.

I had to put the TV on mute when I watched games on NFL Network last year. What a horrible announcer crew that was
So true, those are the worst broadcasters in all of sports. Collinsworth is a complete and utter idiot and Gumbell couldn't make an orgy sound interesting. What on earth is wrong with the NFL network anyway that they ever hired those too, ESPECIALLY Collinsworth? They are horrible and they always have been. Collinsworth was also the one who said ST's murder was a tragedy for the scum who killed him. They didn't expect him to be home. He's a moron and he's scum. I already hated him, but all the more so.

Collinsworth was the lesser of the two evils IMO. However, I never heard the ST thing. If he said that, then I agree, he should be next on the chopping block.
I can't believe it took them so long to dump Gumble. As long as the next team isn't Dennis Miller/Tony Kornheiser it should be an improvement.
Maybe NFLN will see if the girls from The View want to come on as announcers. I think Barbra Walters would've been infinately more interesting to listen too than Bryant Gumble.

I heard him say it, I didn't hear about it. I am a pretty calm guy but I pretty much turned purple when he said that. If they weren't planning on killing anyone why did they have the guns? I'm not saying they thought he was home, but they obviously knew it was a possibility and obviously what happened was no accident. I am still amazed that speech from the idiot hasn't gotten more play. Or any play. It was incredible. Here's one link I saw on it. Read the second paragraph.

I hated listening to Gumbel, though. He was horrible. But that's the Network for ya. I don't care for Rich Eisen either.

I hadn't seen that. Calling Collingsworth scum after that comment is an insult to all scum everywhere.

Wow, I didn't hear about that. I agree with Bob that Chris was the lesser of the two evils, but now knowing Collingsworth said that about Taylor's killers, what little respect I had for him just flew out the window.

Yes, if Collinsworth ever gets his sorry arse blown away I'll write an op-ed to my local paper about what a tragedy it was for the killers.

You could write an op-ed about what a tragedy Collinsworth is for the people who are forced against their will to listen to, or even see his sorry puss on the television, even on Mute.
He's the most useless tit of a commentator since Dan Dierdorf.

Totally agree. And it's not just the ST thing, every time the guy talks I think what an idiot he is. Obviously I have DirectTV. The funny thing is I keep reading about the ugly negotiations between cable and the NFL to carry the channel, but I hardly watched any games on the NFL channel except the Skins because Gumbell and Collinsworth were so painfully horrible. And there Collinsworth exceeded his own moronic standard.
