Redskins In-House Free Agents To Be

The Redskins have had discussions trying to keep many of their free agents, but there is little doubt many of them will hit the market. In some cases, the team believes players might return in a few weeks because the cash won't be out there on the open market.

We shall see.

They met with QB Todd Collins's agent again at the combine, sources said, and hope to re-sign him. At this point they will likely talk again before Friday but with at least 4 other teams interested in him, Collins will probably see what's out there. However, sources said he would let the Redskins have a chance to match any offer.

P Derrick Frost could re-sign with the team today, with the sides speaking again at the combine and hashing out a contract.

RB Rock Cartwright expects to hit the market; perhaps he'll come back but he wants at least $2 million guaranteed and that's not in the cards here right now.

G Jason Fabini has enough experience and played well enough as a starting guards that there is outside in him as well, so he could re-sign here but likely not until after Friday.

The Redskins have expressed interest in S Pierson Prioleau and LB Randall Godfrey, but they are both set to hit the market and could both end up in Jacksonville.

David Macklin and Brian Kozlowski are not in the plans right now. Omar Stoutmire seems to turn back up at Redskins Park all the time, so they could always reach out to him again late in free agency, with safety depth a concern. Mike Pucillo's career might be over after a serious back injury and the team will sign another C/G to replace him.

The Redskins are seeking upgrades at WR, and Keenan McCardell may retire. WR Reche Caldwell could return at some point for depth as well, with Brandon Lloyd gone.

I would not be surprised to see DT Ryan Boschetti back here at some point this off season as well on a vet min deal trying to fight for one of the final roster spots. Greg Blache loves the kid's fight and attitude.

I don't know what to think about Collins; he's a Saunders system QB and we don't know what' he'll do outside that system.

Frost I have no opinion, we keep him or replace him, I'll still sleep the same at night.

Adios Rock, may you find greener pastures. If you come back, you'll be welcome, but not for $2m.

Fabini, no opinion.

Prioleaau GOD NO!!!!! I did, however, like what GOdfrey did for us last year and wouldn't mind him hanging around for depth at LB corps.

Koz did us good, but I'm not concerned either way. I think he's a 14yr vet or something ? No shelf life, but quality in the johnny on the spot kinda way. Macklin was decent for nickel/dime at best. They need to treat Stoutmire better for the simple fact that they used and abused him all last year.

Good luck on retirement for McCardell, but if he hung out for 1 more year, I wouldn't be upset; nice clutch guy, but no YAC. Caldwell I didn't see enough of really to hold much of an opinion. He did start to come on at the end of the year.

Boschetti never showed me anything to care for him to be here.

Fabini, Macklin, and Cartwright are talented guys but none are irreplaceable. I like Cartwright myself and think if given a bigger role, it'd be easy to justify $2 million. He's already returning kicks and he can run and catch out of the backfield.

The rest of the guys, who cares? Collins in a new system that is suited for a younger QB with a quick release? Frost? Punters are important but I think you can get a good one or adequate one off waivers. Kudos to Collins for the 2007 stretch run but he gassed out in Seattle when all the marbles were on the line. He's a backup at best. Couldn't see him going a full season. Besides, I want to see playing time for a stable of young QBs and watch them develop; like the good old days.

We are now starting from Square One again after the coaching shakeup. There will and should be a lot of turnover to rebuild.

I'd keep Prioleau over Godfrey. If He & Stotmire both leave, mVernon Fox will be our only backup safety. Prioleau is no star, but is a useful backup. Fabini starting at LG shows how much we need interior line help. Caldwell has had 1 productive season out of 6. He averaged less than 10 yds/catch last yr. Certainly doesn't look like a #2 WR. Assuming Collins & Brunell both leave, QB depth is a high priority.Macklin was less productive than Eubanks, no reason to keep him. Cartwright is useful but not irreplacable. Same with Frost.

We need to keep Reche Caldwell. I thought he did pretty good last year making some clutch catches for us. Rock will probably just chase the paper trail and I can understand that. If he doesn't find the "big" money, I would love for him to stay on the team. Other than maybe Fabini, I could care less if they let the rest of the guys go.

Although I would not want to see Cartright to leave the $ he is asking for is too much. Thanks for all your contributions and I hope the best for you Rock. If you don't find it then I hope you will come back. As for the others really don't care for them. Godfrey is up there in age and he would be better off in Jacksonville.

Any thoughts about trying to get Colvin?

Prieleau needs to go...He's junk. Can't cover to save his life. I'd keep Godfrey if the price was right...I love Rock but its time to let him go...I think Caldwell will do pretty well for us this year. Not the fastest WR but runs great routes, has great hands, and is a very smart WR.

Caldwell averaged less than 10 yds/catch last yr. He has had 1 good season out of 6. We need to groom a young SLB behind Washington. Maybe 1 of our recent signings will be that person, but I wouldn't count on it. Prieleau isn't a star, but he's a useful sub & ST guy.
