Davis to retire as a Panther

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Davis to retire as a Panther

Post by andyjens89 »

The Carolina Panthers have found that big power running back they've been looking for ... well, not exactly.

Stephen Davis plans to sign a contract with Carolina to retire as a Panther. The honorary move is expected to become official today.

"Even though he played longer with the Redskins, Stephen wanted to retire a Panther," his agent, David Canter, said Tuesday. "There were a lot of different reasons, but it's mainly a testament to the Richardson family (team owners), general manager Marty Hurney and coach (John) Fox. They are among the classiest people he's ever been around."

Davis was with Carolina for just three seasons (2003-05), two of them injury-plagued. But in 2003, he helped carry the team to the Super Bowl, gaining a franchise-record 1,444 yards.

He finished his career with St. Louis in 2006. Before coming to Carolina, he played seven seasons in Washington, topping 1,000 rushing yards three times.

Davis grew up in Spartanburg, and attended Auburn.

"He always considered Carolina his hometown team and felt an affinity and love for the Carolina fans," Canter said.

Goes to show how "endearing" our FO can be.

Correct me if Im wrong, but didn´t Stephen sign a tremendous 90 md contract one or two years before our FO considered him disposable?

I still believe he had a great run with the Skins and embodied the kind of hard running we love in DC.

I dont blame him. The way Spurrier just let him go after he made the pro bowl and had an amazing year. I dont blame him one bit. Good for him. =D>

I recall the first time he made news as a Redskin... I never quite got how a power running back gets a beat down from a WO (Michael Westbrook)...

That's more on SS than the FO imho. He wasn't Spurrier's type of runningback.

Of course, you could argue (successfully), SS didn't HAVE a type of runningback..

Your knees would probably hurt in the morning, as well.
