Found this in ESPN.com's final mock draft, with Pasquarelli and Clayton doing the picking:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draf ... draft/2004
And here's the Redskins part:
Moderator: The Redskins pick next. The No. 5 pick is their only pick on the first day, so they better make it count. We have a question here from Lee Canfield in Bealeton, VA ... With all of the problems the Washington Redskins have with there DLine...why would they take Winslow or even Taylor? Wouldn't either Wilfork or Harris be a much better fit here?
John Clayton, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: That's too high to take those guys (Wilfork or Harris) and remember, they addressed the D-line by getting Cornelius Griffin in free agency, plus some moves they made last year. Joe Gibbs is an offensive guy and unlike Steve Spurrier, he's trying to address the needs by finding the best guys available and not settling for a bunch of guys he can find from the University of Florida.
5. Kellen Winslow, TE Miami
John Clayton, ESPN.com senior NFL writer: Joe Gibbs already told Kellen Winslow that if he's here, the Redskins will take him. He's the perfect H-back type tight end for the system that Gibbs wants to run. Gibbs coached Kellen Sr., so it's fitting that he gets to coach the son.

Yeah.... but Joe Gibbs doesn't coach the Defense
And with the Defense being our achellies heal.... I'm sure Williams is gonna put up a fight....

As I posted on Webskins (the only other discussion forum I frequent), I can certainly get used to Winslow running seam routes a la Didier and Bryant all day long. What LB is going to be fast enough or what DB is going to be big enough to cover him?1niksder wrote:it's a good choice
with the #5 pick the Redskins select Sean Taylor
would be a great choice
I still think Taylor-at-safety is a better match of skill vs. need. What we don't know is the coaches' evaluation of the current players based on interviews, film review and the first mini-camp. Maybe they think more highly of some of these folk than we do.

Gibbs said that the above statement is not true.

I don't know whether Gibbs told Winslow that or not. But I do know that if Gibbs wanted it blabbed all over the media he'd have done it himself.
If Winslow is more interested in blowing his own horn to reporters and embarassing Gibbs than he is about keeping his yap shut and letting the Redskins' draft strategy play out, who needs him anyway?

Gibbs denied saying that to Winslow or to Clayton (clayton claimed Gibbs said it to him directly too). It's all part of the games going on prior to the draft. There seems to be a ton more of that going on this year. Makes life interesting but it's driving me nuts! Every reporter thinks they have the scoop. The only thing we can do is wait and see!
