Larger role for Lloyd?

Post by 4olddc »

We all figured BL was done in DC, but now that we're bringing in a West Coast offense, do you think the Skins might hold onto him and see what he can do since he already is familiar with the system? As much as I don't like BL, I would much rather see us try to resurrect him than trade a way picks and/or players for a big free agent.

I would say give him one last chance, but he needs to agree to restructure his contract as well. He hasn't really shown he is worthy of representing the Burgundy & Gold colors!!! Also maybe management can focus some of that potential cap relief on the defensive side.

My 2 cents
"It's almost like, you play a kid's game for a king's ransom," he said. "And if you don't take it serious enough, eventually one day you're going to say, 'Oh, I could have done this, I could have done that."

I think he should give back some money, void the contract he signed initially and sign on for a Vet minimum salary for 1 year and conditional resign option based on his productivity for the 1 year.

Yes. Under no other conditions should he stay. The old saying: "If you can't get along with Joe Gibbs, you can't get along with anybody".

Maybe Zorn wipes the board clean, but Lloyd's salary is still a lot to swallow. How much did Wes Welker make?

I agree, but it's not going to happen. Ffor Vet minimum he's not going to take it here.

I wonder, with his rep and drop in production during the past two seasons, if anyone would be interested in him for more then the league minimum?
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

Don't know for sure, but I believe one of the main factors for why Gibbs benched him was his poor attitude in the locker room and his lack of work ethic. If you reward him or extend him numerous chances, that may be looked down upon by the other players. It will be interesting to see how Zorn treats this situation and how this ultimately plays out.

After the trade, Welker agreed to a five-year, $18.1 million contract includes a $9 million signing bonus, ESPN.com's John Clayton reported.

Lloyd should stay!

I think we are better off keeping with for one more year. Oviously, We should demand to re-estructure his contract. I think that with this new offense coming, he should get more opportunities and more catches.

Not attacking anyone here.

But this is the same discussion we had when this time last year, that he will flourish in a vertical offense, he never did. IMO we have given him ample chances, given him a lot of mula, it's time for him to show a sign of faith in return, give up money and work for a better salary, just like anyone in the real world.

I know we thought he would fair better last year and didn't, but I think that being back in the WCO could help him since that's what he started out in and is more familiar with. However, as everyone has mentioned, he needs to rework his deal with help us as much as possible. If he's not willing to do that, then we just need to cut him and move on.

How many chances do you need to give this guy? He's unproductive here and he seems to not work for his money. No ethics, no roster spot.

Folks, why would Lloyd possibly restructure his deal? What incentive does he have?

The onus isn't on him to a damn thing, players are doing the team a favor when they restructure, the team has given him no incentive whatsoever to be helpful.

I'd rather cut BL and bring Lavar back. At least he has heart/better work ethics and would probably catch more passes over the course of a season.

I'm obviously in the minority here, but I don't think he really got much of chance to produce.....(notice I didn't say "fair") because his attitude prevented him from getting many opportunities. So attitude wise, he's had problems, and maybe that's a good enough reason to release him.

But if we wanted to recoup some lost money and salvage something out of it, maybe the new staff could find a way to straighten him out.

He's a young guy, and off the field he seems to be a nice kid...getting involved in charities and so forth, so the disconnect on the football side is a strange contradiction.

I suppose you'd really have to be an insider to tell what is going on with him, but the stories of him contradicting coaches and so forth don't bode well.

Ability wise, the guy can make some highlight reel catches...so it would be a shame if we couldn't find a way to get that talent on the field, producing.

ill tell you why this guy has always been overrated. hes not a big prototypical guy so when he makes a catch it looks spectacular. hes really gotta reach to grab the thing if it isnt on his numbebrs.

drop him. trade him if we can for draft picks

We should try to do whatever will free the most cap space. Loyd has talent, but hasn't produced. I'd take an 8th round pick for him.

Either way, it's a tough call, especially when you don't know all the facts. But what the fans do know is that Gibbs was the one that brought Lloyd in and Gibbs was the one that subsequently benched him. There's been a question of character in the locker room or off the field, because we all know Lloyd hasn't had much of a chance on the field.

So that leaves us to either question the character of Gibbs or the character of Lloyd. I believe most fans would tend to give Gibbs the benefit of the doubt. Gibbs' character has never been in question. But that doesn't mean I don't want Lloyd to be a contributor or earn his keep. If he came back with a new attitude and a new outlook, as I said last year, I'd be all for giving the man another chance.

At this point I think it just makes the most sense for Lloyd to go. We can argue all day about whether he got an adequate chance and whether or not he is a locker room cancer. But obviously the Lloyd/Skins experiment hasn't worked out and it's probably for the best that the Skins cut ties with Lloyd. The Skins can hopefully find a productive receiver to be our #2 and Lloyd can hopefully restart his career somewhere else.

Releasing him would save us 2.4 million. Given our cap situation, saving cap dollars is a priority, and he may be a casualty of that fact.
