The Red Snapper Re-Signs

Albright Re-Signs

Jason LaCanfora, while parking at his "climate-controlled" storage facility in Shirlington, calls to report: The Redskins have re-signed their first free agent of the offseason. Long-snapper Ethan Albright said he signed his one-year contract today and is sending it back to the team. Albright, who just returned from the Pro Bowl in Hawaii with his family, said he is excited to be back with the Redskins. (Jason says he gets big points simply by dealing with four children on a plane trip from DC to Hawaii and back.)

As for another special teams free agent, return specialist Rock Cartwright, the team has made no attempots to re-sign him and is readying for the start of free agency in March. Cartwright is not overly optimistic about returning to the team because he is uncertain how much interest the Redskins have in keeping him.

A source close to Cartwright said he is looking for $2 million guaranteed in this deal, similar to what the Redskins gave return specialist Chad Morton in 2003.

Albright continued his trend of being the first player re-signed by the club in the off season, saying yesterday that he signed the one-year offer sent to him in the mail ("Same contract as last year and that's more than enough for me," he said. Albright, one of the most consistently accurate snappers in the NFL, has been with Washington since 2001 and has not missed a game since 1995. "I'm very excited," Alrbight said yesterday upon returning from a post-Pro Bowl family vacation in Hawaii. "I'll be back for another year."

Wish more athletes felt this way...I love this guy...!!!

Arguably the most overlooked player on the team. I don't know why he keeps signing one year deals instead of multi-year contracts. Either way, I'm glad that it takes little effort to bring him back every year.

The funny thing is that this is probably the best Schottenheimer signing during his year here.

I wonder if it has something to do with the cap numbers? I mean, he only does one thing and that is snap the ball on field goals and punts. Don't get me wrong. I am not downplaying what he does at all. I just think that vin and dan know he will re-sign for the vet minimum every year. Cap masters of thehogs.net, can you give some insight to the cap hit of Albright? Maybe the difference between one year and a multi-year deal.

thanks

They can just sign him to a long-term deal for the same amount every year so I don't understand why they just don't lock him up instead of going from year to year.

Because he signs for the Vet Min every year it helps out the team. He took home $867,000 last year and it only cost the team $482,000. If he signed a long term deal he would get a bigger signing bonus which would have to be spread out over the length of the deal and the base salary would increase every year.

I knew it had to be about saving money! :D Thanks 1niksder. I knew I could count on the cap experts here to give me and the rest of the members the low down on Albright's cap numbers. On a side note, 867,000 is a VERY NICE salary for being able to snap a ball 5-10 yards between your legs! I am in envy of Albright.

Pro Bowl long snapper Albright re-signs with Redskins

ASHBURN, Va. -- Pro Bowl long snapper Ethan Albright re-signed with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday.

"I'm up every year (for contract renewal)," Albright said at the Pro Bowl before signing his eighth straight one-year deal with the Redskins. "I am the unofficial NFL record-holder for most consecutive one-year minimum deals with the same team."

Albright hasn't had a bad snap since joining the Redskins in 2001. He was one of three Washington representatives at this month's Pro Bowl, his first All-Star selection in his 13-year NFL career.

Albright was signed as an undrafted free agent by Miami in 1994. He made his NFL debut with the Dolphins in 1995 and later played with Buffalo before joining the Redskins.

Not 1 bad snap since 2001 & only made the ProBowl once? Something's wrong with that!

I remember thinking during the season "I've never seen this guy make a bad snap" but I figured I just didn't remember, now I find out it was true. This guy is amazing!

I read an article about him and why he made the pro bowl. They only pick a LS if there's noone available from the pro bowl lineman. There's no dedicated spot for JUST a LS
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

Gotta love a quality snapper. Although I'm not a big fan of snappers with red hair.

I don't care for bald snappers either. However, I do like snappers with a mohawk. :)
