Why no Ron Rivera or Russ Grimm?
The thing I don't get about the NFL and as an extension the Redskins is how some coordinators become hot commodities in the NFL coaching circle. This year we interviewed the Tennessee Def Cord. ... a guy gregg williams mentored .. and a guy who had much worse defenses than Williams himself.
Meanwhile... one of the best def. cord. in football the past few years sits in San Diego as a linebackers coach. Ron Rivera was the hot coaching guy last year but did not get hired as a head coach. The bears got rid of him and he's now in San Diego. The guy did wonders with a bears defense that basically carried them to the playoffs year after year. And now you look at them now after his departure and wonder how much of an influence he had on that team. And somehow he hasn't gotten an interview anywhere? If I were the redskins and I wasn't convinced Gregg Williams was the next guy, then I would at least bring in Rivera and give him an interview. What does it hurt. Shoot... even if you don't want him as a head coach maybe the possibility of him coming in as a Def. Cord. would be a possibility.
Another guy that should be getting an audition is Russ Grimm. A man that should be getting into the hall of fame this year (but who knows due to the skins media haters) is being passed over by the same team that he made his hall of fame career at. He was here as an offensive line coach years ago. Many around football believe he will be a great head coach because unlike most former offensive/defensive line players... he knows football past the trenches. But he knows the trenches best. And that's where football is won and lost and where the skins need a serious upgrade. Yet not one interview (to my knowledge.. skins have been shaddy about who they have interviewed).
I'm not saying these guys should be the next head coach of the Redskins. What I am saying is they should at least be given a shot at an interview. If your doing your due dilligence in putting a list of the best and most qualified assistants in the league together, how are these two not on that list? But instead we waste our time with guys like Jim Schwartz and trying to lure away Pete Carrol or Bill Cowher. For a man that has been so successful in business I cannot comprehend how disorganized Dan Snyder is with his favorite toy.. our redskins

It boggles my mind that Russ Grimm isn't getting serious consideration for this job. He was the first guy that I thought of when Joe Gibbs retired. I think it would be a great idea to hire a young, up and coming coach like Grimm. Throw in his Redskins ties and at the least he should be getting an interview.
Suck and Luck
Defense wins championships. Somehow I dont think Snyder believes the same thing.
Basically Snyder has no foundation of football fundamentals. How is he to know how a championship is won?
How does Snyder know what to look for in a coach?
Simple, I do not think Snyder knows what to look for in a coach.
He probably just goes of reputation of a guy.
Can Snyder really let Vinny do his job without interference?
I wonder if Vinny C. could actually do a decent job without Snyders interference?

Amen. He's the guy I'd be proud of as our head coach.

I bet Grimm's coaching ratings in Madden 2002 were subpar.
And yes, I'm going to keep going with this theme until someone proves to me for certain that DS isn't basing all Redskins decisions on his trials and tribulations in Madden 2002 Dynasty mode.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but Madden did not add the coaching staff part of the dynasty mode untill Madden '04.
Bruce has the authority. When Bruce makes the decision, it's a Redskins decision.

Owned. 04 it is.
Edit: I've actually been looking through the internet for the Madden 04 coach ratings, to no avail. I'm going back to school on Sunday, when I'll fire up the Playstation and hopefully get my first big break in the "DS is playing Madden 04 and running the Redskins as such" theory. Wonder if Fassel's rated particularly high... hmmmmmm.....

Because he's garbage. Lovie is pretty much teh D man in Chi.
I woulda thought Grimm would get a look-in though.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

After all that has transpired since my first post... I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY GRIMM HASN'T GOTTEN AN INTERVIEW. Nobody wants this damn job.. give him a shot. Give Singletary a shot... give rivera a shot.. shoot.. if the raiders fire lane kiffin give him a shot.... just get somebody. No more retreads and no more mediocrity. I'm tired of the redskins being the laughingstock of the nfl. Sure we're not Raiders level of laughinstock but we're close.

I'm not so sure even he wants this job... Although I believe he's still rooted in the area, his son's hometown is listed as Fairfax, VA (plays college f'ball)... Well not that I'm a stalker or anything, I just remember seeing that somewhere.
#21 (36) This IS and will always be the High watermark where all new DB's are measured.

Russ Grimm for Head Coach!
Russ Grimm is EXACTLY the kind of coach the Redskins need. He is:
1. A hard-nosed fundamentals coach
2. A players coach
3. A guy who would bring back a physical running attck
4. A guy who obviusly knows passing (look at the cardinals passing game last year)
5. A guy who comes from this family. What better way to follow Gibbs than with someone born from the Gibbs family of players/coaches

The thing that concerns me is this. If you are a believer in Art Rooney's ownership in Pittsburgh, and how his GM really knows how to put the best product on the field, then why did they take a pass on Grimm when they were looking for a head coach? Who knows Grimm better than the Steelers? He was a coach in the organization for cryin out loud. Rooney passed on Grimm only to bring in an outsider in Mike Tomlin. That tells me that Grimm may not be Head Coaching material. Maybe I'm wrong but it does beg the question.
Miss you 21
