Who I think Snyder wants for the Head Coach position...

I am not a Cerrato fan but that is primarily because to date here he has only seemed to be a yes man to Snyder's desires to have a great team. The reality here is that Snyder is the owner. Cerrato is now the guy that is basically doing the job of a GM Snyder should let Cerrato do his thing and IF this does not work I would hope that Snyder will replace him.

Unfortunately, we are stuck with an owner that does not seem to understand that he needs to let NFL people run his team.

That's where I have a problem, this notion that Snyder hand selects free agents and draft picks. I concede that in Snyder's first year as the owner, he personally selected and lured guys like Sanders and Smith. Since then, there is no evidence anywhere, none, that confirms Dan has been the one selecting players and merely uses Vinny as his 'yes man'.

As a matter of fact, we've heard Gibbs offer insight quite to the contrary, and any suggestion that Gibbs would sacrifice his character and lie about that is utter nonsense. There have been several overlooked reports and explanations over the years regarding the process. Those reports, qualified by Gibbs himself, indicate that the coaching staff and Vinny's department, after film review and much research, identify and select players. They subsequently take those selections to Dan for his approval, as he is the one who signs the checks and actually pays those players salaries. Therefore, the coaching staff would deserve just as much, if not more, of the blame for poor player acquisitions.

I challenge anyone to prove that otherwise.

Let me clarify my thoughts - I agree with your thoughts about how things work with regards to Cerrato.

My concern is that now that Cerrato has been clarified as being in a position that basically means he is now the GM (whatever his title is) - Is he selecting the coach and then making the decision and finally going to Snyder and saying this is the guy I want as the new HC? I think that he should be doing that just like I think he's been doing with the players as Gibbs suggested.

Basically - I want a GM - IF that is Cerrato then Snyder should let him do his job and find the new coach - Snyder seems to be too involved in the search and thus, this ends up being Snyder's coach not Cerrato's.

That is what I meant about Snyder not letting football people run the team - it was not mean't to indicate that he was still "finding" players, per se :lol:

NEXT thought - IF Cerrato takes over and proves to not be as out of touch with the NFL as I think then we are fine BUT also IF this team does not continue to get better because of Cerrato's mistakes then he should be taken out and shot :lol:

With regard to the head coaching search, I believe Snyder and Cerrato are the main players. Hopefully Gibbs is offering some insight and advice, and hopefully Vinny and Dan are using it, although admittedly, no evidence of that to date... we'll see.

Snyder is the owner and you're just not going to get past the fact that owners are involved in decision making process regarding the hiring of coaches, for every team, not just the Skins. In my opinion, the more heads working on this, the better. I wouldn't want Dan or Vinny acting alone on this decision. Would I like to have many more qualified folks involved in this decision? Hell yes, but that ain't going to happen. In my opinion, the decision should have already been made in Williams.

I saw this post on ESPN. Thought it was pretty good. I kind of feel the same way. But he would be hiring GW for continuity. If Saunders doesn't come in a bundled package...then we should look elsewhere.

Again, I am and have been a Redskins for almost 30 years, and I can't figure out why everyone is begging for Williams. I just went on ESPN and got our overall Defensive rankings since 2004. Here they are:
2004: 30th overall ranked D.
2005: 11th overall ranked D.
2006: 13th overall ranked D.
2007: 15th overall ranked D.
These numbers look pretty unremarkable to me along with his record as a head coach. Everyone is focusing on the end of this season when the team played inspired ball for the late S.T. Yes you all hate Dan Snyder, but obviously he realizes that G.W. is not the man, and I hope he doesn't bow to fan pressure and hire Williams. Maybe the route is Siingletary, Grimm, or Spagnola. What I am saying is Snyder go YOUNG with the hiring, so we have a future!! Williams and Fassel = MEDIOCRITY

2006 is clearly the exception in Williams' tenure, and for many of us that watched it on the field I think it's still hard to believe that it ever happened. Funny how we didn't see all kinds of reports on Williams arrogance and obtuseness coming out this year.

Dude, relax. I have made the same mistake before. It was an accident. He is not the only person that has done that. Its not lazy, he probably tried to change it from offense to defense and thought that it updated and posted. Anyways, it was an accident.

I work up in Arlington and we have a lot of Redskins fans in my office and everyone of them wants Greg Williams and Sanders. If Dan Snyder has half a brain he will bring them back. Honestly I think with Gibbs gone, that our Offense and Deffense will be better then it was last year. Joe Gibbs is probally my favorite coach of all time (of coarse), but I think he didn't let Al sanders and Greg Williams do their jobs last year. There were "To many hands in the cookie jar." But it was Joe Gibbs who brought all these Graet players and Coaches to Wasinghton and it would be a God Sinn, to break it up. Hopefully Danny Boy is listens to us the Fans , Coaches and Playes.

When is the TV industry going to move into the the 21st century and get real time feed back from every cablebox and statleilte provider on every custumer and actually get an accurate rating?

So you're telling me that the TV networks and radio networks that sign those big deals with the NFL, none of it goes to the teams? There's no revenue sharing? I wonder what they're doing with all 5 billion of it? Huh...didn't know that.

I agree that Snyder has progressed - I also understand that we are fortunate to (hopefully) have Gibbs assistance - I also think that having input from quality people is also good :lol:

My concern is that while Snyder has let people (Cerrato and Gibbs) make the football decisions recently (at least, I think they have :wink:

) - I just wish that I did not think that Snyder is the main force in the coach search - it should be somebody he approves of, YES! BUT not necessarily just somebody he wants! It might be semantics but I would hope we end up with somebody Cerrato and Gibbs think will do the job with Snyders approval :lol:

I know that owner's "select" coaches but most teams GM or EVP or whatever, find the candidates and suggest alternatives to owners not the other way around like I think is happening here.

It is just very confusing to me that Williams is not already the coach and Cerrato and his little force are not out beating the bushes trying to find the best suited players for our team.

I'd just like to apologise for the delay in appointing the new coach guys. Unfortunately, due to existing work commitments, I haven't been able to make the trip over to DC for my interview (I read in the Daily Sludge that I was a leading candidate for the job). Thankfully, Danny's jet will be arriving later tonight to pick me up. Unfortunately, the last jet they sent for me didn't even make it to the runway at Heathrow.

You didn't get the point!

Teams get that money, if no one watches them (see Cardinals).

NFL games are very highly rated programs, but that is bases on those stupid Nielsen boxes. If RiC watches or doesn't, it doesn't effect how much money Snyder gets.

Now that I spelled it out...

It is time for the TV industry to tap into 21st century technology and actually find out how many people are watching programs.
