If Gibbs has a say in who gets to become head coach, you can bet he will pick either Saunders or Williams to be the coach. Gibbs is loyal to his people and knowing the fact that Danny is influenced heavily by Gibbs, GW or Al will be our next coach. Why would Gibbs spend all this time righting the team just to have it disassembled and done all over again?

This is the 2nd time I've gone through this - Joe resigning as coach. Both times I've been shocked and saddened, but never bitter towards Joe. He's got bigger and better things to accomplish, and he leaves again with the team in better shape than when he returned. I look forward to his press conference. (And I hope GW is named HC - unlike Pettibon, GW wants to be head coach)...

Pettibone wanted to be a head coach! What ever gave you that idea?

He almost got the job as the Bears' HC in 1992 and said he would have jumped off a bridge if he had been given the Bears' job then Gibbs retired the next year and he would have missed out on being the Skins HC.

He was truely devistated when JKC fired him!

He didn't come right out and say it, but he said they definitely feel they have the right people in place to move forward. He also said he would stay around to see it through and fulfill whatever role Dan wants. I think you can bet on the next head coach coming from within. He almost said it twice. He said he wants to remain in a capacity to get the team where they want to go.

I agree. I think listening to this press conference, and saying that they have everything in place and wants to see it through, and he's discussed this with some players...hopefully sounds like they will be promoting within. Reports and interviews have the players really hoping for GW.

coaches all have their own philosophies and ideas of what works. they will bring in guys they trust to be coordinators. If their philosophy doesn't match our roster players get moved. Don't look at what is going on in Dallas. Phillips is just a puppet like Switzer. He has no say in anything. He is just the ultimate yes man to Jerry Jones

Kinda like Gruden in Tampa, he just road the wave of Tony Dungy... He's still making decent teams but nothing close to that team he INHERITED.

Gibbs even went so far to say that he 'didn't want to get Dan or the next coach in trouble, because there's a process, but feel they have the right pieces in place to move forward'. The press is really trying to get Dan and Joe to say something about Gregg.

But the fact that they did not say a WORD about Al Saunders is telling. I was surprised that most other coaches were mentioned. This was an unintended oversight.

I suspect that GW will be the next HC but I will not bet the house on that. All very sad.

Good luck Joe, God bless you and thanks for the new memories and your ever lasting leadership.

All I want to say right now is how grateful I am to have been a fan of the Washington Redskins during the Joe Gibbs era. An exceptional coach, and an exceptional man.

Thanks Joe. Thanks for so many great memories, and bless you.

Well, you can say that, but you'll have to recognize that the Raiders team that Bill Callahan took to the Super Bowl that year was inherited from John Gruden. In my mind, Gruden should get a lot of credit somewhere between Oakland and Tampa Bay that year. . .

I think the press was 'pressing' them about Williams because many players have now been lobbying for Williams to be the next coach. I believe the players have respect for both Saunders and Williams, but Williams seems to be more of a 'players coach'. GW likes to roam the sideline coaching and motivating his players. Saunders seems to be the mad genius entrenched in the booth calling plays and matching wits with the opponents.

Gruden is one hell of a coach and he did what Tony Dungy couldn't do and that was win the superbowl with that team that Dungy put together. Look at what Gruden did with the Raiders, and now look at the Raiders. So, just because the Redskins go outside to hire a coach does not spell disaster. What has GW done has a head coach? He has done nothing and he hasn't proved squat. Why should he be hired, what has he done? Cower has atleast proved that he can coach and players play for him. And not only that he has won a superbowl. Look at the team he built, they were in the playoffs AGAIN. I would love to have a coach on our team that is with us for 15 years, and goes to the playoffs 10 years out of those 15 years, and only 3 losing seasons and also a superbowl win. I have said along to many people that I felt like that this was Gibbs last year and its finally happened, I also have said that I felt like Cower was going to end up with the Redskins, Stay tuned.
