Wow - I'm shocked. I really thought he was staying on, but I guess this explains why he hedged on the question in recent days. But given all the things that have piled up this season, and his grandson's health issues, I can understand JG's decision. I've been tough on him in the past, but I've always said he's a totally classy, upright, decent guy, a heck of a role model and a leader, and I absolutely wish him the best in whatever he decides to do from here forward. Thanks for all you did, or tried to do, in bringing this team back, Coach. We're going to miss you.

On a completely unrelated note, Gregg isn't going to Miami. Parcells is only interested in a 'Parcells' guy - probably someone off the current Cowboys staff.

Well this was not what I expected.

I was one of the guys that sheepishly wanted Joe to ride off after this year. Not because I didn't have all kinds of man love for the guy, but because I didn't want him to ruin his legacy.

Afer Sean's death, he made his legacy ever stonger.

Joe, we all love you. And wish you all the best.

I am glad he is still staying on as an advisor.

Even if he wasn't he will always be part of the Redskin family.

Sean Taylor was known for his hard hits.

His hardest hit will always be the day that he was taken from us.

Amen.
I know that Buffalo was a while ago but I just don't like his attitude towards the players. He may be like Norv in that he is an exceptional coordinator and a horrible head coach. I'd rather not risk it. Of course, I don't really know anything about him or Saunders ability to lead either.

Belicheat didn't shine as a head coach right off the bat either, but he seems to have learned on the job. GW may (or may not) be the same way. Of course, Belicheat didn't have a HoF QB during his Cleveland years, either.

True enough but despite Belichecks public persona I think he treats his players with respect, which is what I worry about with Williams.

FYI, there's no "you're the next coach or we pay you X dollars" clause in GW's contract.

That would be in violation of the Rooney rule and the NFL would not allow it.

Now we'll see just how much Snyder has learned in his four years of studying at the Joe Gibbs Academy of Owner-Team Operations Relations.

As I said earlier, I think this is to keep Gregg from Miami.

With two weeks left to go in the season GW sounded like he was going to be looking for a job somewhere else. This isn't form any specific thing he said but by a lot of little things.

I think Snyder is running Gibbs out to hire Cower!

You could tell by Gibbs' press conference last night that the deciscission was going to come after a meeting with Snyder. And by that I got the impression that it maybe one of thise things were Dan says, "Joe if you don't feal like coaching any more or if you aren't going to want to stay for another couple of years that would be Ok with me. If you're coming back next year, I want you for another two after that. If not I have someone else I can hire."

Obviously that last part is all conjecture and assumptions on my part, but that is my gut fealing.

Joe Jackson Gibbs, it was a pleasure haveing you back. God speed. Hail to the Redskins!

Anyone think a new coach will be announced today?

I'm sure Gibbs didn't come to this decision today. He had to of thought about it for a while, and I'd guess he's already thought about his replacement, as I'm sure he'll have a lot of input towards the choice of the new coach.

I cried with joy when Gibbs came back. Now the tears are back because my hero is gone again. This sucks. And like last time, it was a surprise, caught us and the team off guard, and lead to chaos that didn't end until he returned. I'm very dissapointed there wasn't some kind of transition or farewell for those of us who put so much faith in him. Bummer.

Cower says he's not coaching this year. I really hope we hire from within this time - I am tired of the splashy pick who produces nothing. Unfortunately there have only been TWO coaches that seem to be able to win with the Skins - Allen & Gibbs. I am a bit nervous at the thought of the Norv/Terry/Marty/Steve era coming to town again.

I believe that there was a transition. He let Williams run the D. He let Saunders run the O. Joe Gibbs was giving more responsibility to his staff. I believe he was trying to set the organization up for success after he is gone.

Oh, and I am on the fence about renewing my season tickets next year because of financial concerns (baby number 3) and if they hire a trendy pick for coach I think I will just stay home.

Impossible. There's a process they must go through, even if it's only for show because they have their guy in mind and in place.

If they hire from within, which I hope they will, do they really need to go the the "process"?

And I still don't understand the fascination with Cowher. We've heard for years critics saying the problem with the Skins organization is the endless turnover of coaches and schemes. After what Gibbs has established, I seriously doubt he'd want that to happen again.

I've changed my mind on Williams because it seems the players want him as coach.

Here's the way I see it:
The Danny told Gregg, the team was his after Joe, not in writing, because that would be illegal , but he told him nonetheless. Gregg is getting serious offers about coaching elsewhere as HC. He tells the Danny, "Look, I'd like to stay here, but I need to be the HC again, and I'll go elsewhere if I have to." The Danny tells Joe, and Joe steps aside graciously to let Gregg have the team, and to preserve continuity, which also helps the team. Joe is a core Redskin, and he always puts the team first.

I really hope that's the case. And I agree with Cleg, I think the players like and respect Williams and would like to see him be the next head coach. We need some help on the defensive side this offseason, as everyone says. With Gregg, you're gonna get it.

I tired of the changes. I hope the deadskin is right.

I don't wan't to be starting over. New coach also, means that we may not have the players the new coach will want and may be doing lots of trading and FAs and no draft pick again.

I don't want that kind of thing to happen. Yes, we need key upgrades at places. But, I feel we have been working towards something and we aren't their yet. So, we don't need to start from scratch. Really I don't want Gibbs to go yet. I mean it's like being in a 5 year/5steap program, and only going through 4.
I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.

I just have this feeling that neither GW or Al will be the next HC. I think GW has know Gibbs was leaving and knows he isn't going to be the next HC and that is why he has been talking like he is leaving.

I honestly don't want him as the HC. People keep comparing him to Billy B., but Belicheat had a 45% winning percentage (Gibbs' this time around was 47%) and GW was 39% and never had a winning season.

Billy B's best season was 11-5 (1-1 in the playoffs). GWs best record was 8-8.

Billy B was clearly better in his first HC job, but the biggest difference is Billy B had a HoF QB fall into his lap. That tends to make any HC a very good HC, even that nitwit that took over for Jimmy Johnson won a SB with a (boarderline) HoF QB. If Campbell turns into a HoF QB (not likely) or one drops into the Skins' lap then there is no fair comparision.

When the Lions picked Marriucci <sp> from SF, they failed to go through the process, even though they knew they wanted him, and had already decided to hire him. If I recall correctly they were fined, admonished by the league, and trashed by the press, all because they didn't want to waste another coach's time.

I don't know if they suffered any other penalties (loss of draft picks, etc) but I'm sure if we did it, the league would punish us to the full extent since it's pretty obvious they don't like us.
