Well now we know - he must have decided it was just too much - we will now enter the fray - hopefully Snyder hires a GM
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

The Redskins confirmed it to Chris Mortenson, also told him that the head coaching buy out clause we' heard about in Gregg Williams' contract doesn't exist.

I wonder if Joe is doing this to keep Gregg here...... I know that wouldn't be his entire reason for doing so...

This definitely comes as a shock to me, because after watching the player interviews on Sunday, and just hearing Gibbs positive comments on the team to come..I really believed he would be coming back. Well we will definitely miss him! Good Luck to you and your family Joe.

From what we have heard ... it appears that Gibbs will stay as an "advisor" - now how much weight will that carry - we know Snyder likes Gibbs but will Gibbs really have much input?

I am sure that Gibbs will help Snyder with his next coach but I only hope that does not mean that we have too many changes here - losing both Williams and Saunders (as well as Gibbs) will mean new systems and that might affect what has been accomplished - we seemed to just need to get some players back and acquire a couple of starters ...... this might mean a lot of changes :(

Sorry but i feel there has to be more to this...Joe said he would fufill his 5 year contract..I believed that...I always thought if Snyder wanted him out that Joe would take the hit for the team because Snyder would be run out of town at the thought of firing Gibbs...???

As I said earlier, I think this is to keep Gregg from Miami.

Yeah but I think everything he had to go through this year with the team, Taylor and his grandson who is sick may have been just too much for him to take.

I didn't expect it, but I'm not shocked. There has always been the possibility, then you throw in the tragedy of this season, the stints in his heart, and the illness of his grandson and it may have been too much for the man.

Thanks Joe, for taking the risk of tarnishing your legacy to come help right the ship, for getting the team to the playoffs more in 4 years than Norval could do in 8, for guiding the team and organization through a very tough time. You've brought respect back to the Redskins, and it is appreciated.
Two formation shifts, one man in motion, and a counter trey...those were the days...

Honestly, I hope not. I think from what I've read and when Williams was a coach in Buffalo that the guy is a jerk. I think I'd rather see Saunders with Williams still at D.

Of course, the best news of the day with Gibbs retiring is that it should mean no more Mark Brunnel taking up space.

That chapter has been close for quite some time. Let's base this off of what he's done since he's been here... He's been nothing short of awesome.

:-k I wonder if that's the case. I would say that I hope so. I want both Williams and Saunders to stay.

Sad to see Gibbs retire. He will be missed.

Amen.
I know that Buffalo was a while ago but I just don't like his attitude towards the players. He may be like Norv in that he is an exceptional coordinator and a horrible head coach. I'd rather not risk it. Of course, I don't really know anything about him or Saunders ability to lead either.

This is definitely a shock to me. I thought he would go the full 5 years but I guess this year just took a lot out of him. I feel honored to have watched a legend coach our team once again. The first time I was too young to really appreciate what he has done for this organization. Even though this time around he didn't make it to the superbowl, I feel like he has done what some of us take for granted.

He has righted this organization and has it heading into the right direction IMO. Two playoff appearances in 4 years is double the amount of playoff appearances that we had previous to his return. Gibbs will be missed but I believe that he has left a lasting impression on everyone inside of the Redskins organization.

I don't think there is anything to it. I just think he didn't want to be a "lame duck" head coach (a coach in his last year, with no extension), and didn't want to sign a two year extension.

He may be making the move for Cowher so that Baltimore doesn't scoop him up.

Most likely, the team will go to Saunders.

2nd best case scenario, 1st would be JG coming back.
