2008 Regular Season Schedule

Post by DarthMonk »

A little silly to think about it now but what the heck:

Home and away with Dallas, New York, and Philadelphia

NFC West:
Home = Cardinals, Rams
Away = 49ers, Seahawks

AFC North:
Home = Browns, Steelers
Away = Ravens, Bengals

Strength of Schedule:
Home = Saints
Away = Lions

Where'd you find that info? I didn't know it came out this early.

Overall, the schedule doesn't look too bad. Not a cakewalk, but not brutal either. Only two playoff teams from outside the division.

unfortunately - we don't get to play this year's team, we get to play a team that has probably been able to improve themselves.

This time last year we would have been very nervous about facing Chicago after what they looked like last year - the Dolphins were a top 5 defence overall and shut out the New England Patriots in one game and went to Chicago and beat up on them - they certainly did not look the same

You just cannot really predict how teams will do in the age of parity - This year's Patriots are one of the greatest teams ever except nobody thinks they could beat any of the decent teams from the 70s, 80s or 90s let alone the good teams from that era.

This is a time when you have a lot more teams that are competitive with each other than the few dynasties that used to be around back in the day.
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

Totally agree, you can't really make any judgements about many teams from year to year.

Cool to see the schedule though. How great is it that we don't have to go play in Tampa for a change? I'm sick of them.

I agree - someone in the NFL has decided that we need to play in Tampa at least once each year :wink:

you know - we could still play a game in 2008 in Tampa :lol:

True, but some teams are still usually good, and some teams are still usually bad. Looking at that list of non-division teams, how many would you bet money are definite, no-doubt-about-it, stone-cold-lock 2008 playoff teams? MAYBE the Steelers, and probably the Seahawks - that's it. A bunch of those teams would be happy just to get back to 8-8 or better.

We are actually locked in for several years except for the 2 strength of schedule games. I got this from the Washington Post on Tuesday. You can see 2009 and figure out the following years from

I knew about all the rest of that, but was surprised the '08 strength of schedule games had already been determined. Nice to get the Lions and the Saints for those ones.

Lions and Cards are always wins under Gibbs.

Last time we played the AFC North they looked like the worst division in football by a long shot, prior to the season and we lost all four games!

Quoting myself and knowing how ridiculous it is I think like so:

Split in division = 3-3.

3-1 against AFC.

3-1 against NFC West.

Split strenght of schedule = 1-1.

10-6.

This year I had split Cowboys and Eagles and sweep Giants = 4-2.

3-1 against AFC.

Split NFC North = 2-2

Split strength of schedule = 1-1.

10-6.

We always win a few we shouldn't and lose a few we shouldn't.

Hope we win this week and get another shot against Cowgirls in Dallas.

Probably the one we are supposed to win the most - like at home against the Rams. But I know what you're thinking. Good luck tomorrow ... NOT!

That's an easy schedule actually. I like it. Of our two strength of schedule games --we get the toughest of the two at home, the Lions are horrible. The NFC West is really not a good division. The two toughest teams in the AFC North, Pittsburgh and the Browns are at home. The Bungels and Ravens are one dimensional. The Ravens will have a new coach.

We'll win at least 11 games if we...

1) stay healthier than this year (which won't be too tough);
2) learn to finish teams off and not give 5 games away like this year;
3) keep our current coaching staff basically in place (Joe, Al & Gregg);
4) replace no more than 10-12 guys on our roster (replacing a few older higher priced vets with younger less expensive guys -- like we did last year...that was key to keeping our roster fresh);
5) don't lose any of our better players to free agency, death etc...; and
6) keep Todd. Having a quality backup QB is absolutely key.

That strikes me as an amazingly fortuitous schedule. Look at the road games. Outside of Seattle and our div games our road schedule is quite friendly.

Not a great schedule, but not awful either. I just wish that we could've gotten the AFC North this season with the Ravens and Bengals being awful.

Man that scheduele is great.

The NFC west is one of the weakest divions. Also we get to play Seattle again to get some revenge. It will be good to get to know Seattles team since we always play them in the playoffs.

I'm disapointed no more Bucs. I live in Tampa and it was a nice 3 year run and a playoff game, seeing my beloved Skins in my home town. I do like our chances against those teams next year though.
