OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Brian Billick was fired as coach of the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, less than a day after his team concluded a disappointing 5-11 season and less than a year after receiving a contract extension through 2010.
Players were told of the dismissal as they packed up their lockers at the team's practice facility.
Only a few weeks ago, Billick proclaimed that he would return in 2008, but Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, who does not speak to the media during the season, made no public statement to that effect.

They mentioned a stat on the MASN/ESPN-1300 simulcast.
In his nine years (144 regular-season games), the offense of the so-called genius scored 1 or 0 touchdowns 68 times.

It's about frickin time. He was way overated. Notice that his Genius season he had Randy Moss and Chris Carter as the primary recievers. Any descent O coordinator could look "Brilliant" With those 2 fellows catching the balls. Nuff said.

Exactly.
In nine years, his offense has ranked 14th as the best rating. 6 of his 9 years, the offense was ranked 21st or worst.
Despite him being the smartest man alive (just ask him), and a bona fide offensive genius. And handpicking his own quarterbacks (Elvis "I cry" Grbac, Kyle "I can throw a football 1000 miles from my knees, but can't complete a short pass to save my life" Boller, Steve "Ouch my body!" McNair).

GAG... just when I was thinking you might have the potential to make Chris Berman a distant bad memory, you drop these bombs...
Sad... just sad...

Pasquarelli told a good anecdote at the beginning of his ESPN.com piece.
In Billick's first year, the Ravens -- who were in the FA market for a quarterback -- couldn't get who they were targeting and settled for Scott Mitchell.
To calm the fears of the Ravens faithful, Billick uttered these not-so-prophetic words:
"Don't worry, Baltimore. I know quarterbacks."

Just a thought.
Jason Garrett is tops on their list and they're considering Rex Ryan, their DC as well.

Its funny how Marvin Lewis the defensive genious cant seem to put together a defense in Cincinnati. Yet Cincinnatis offense is among the leagues best.
Billick should have gone a long time ago. This was way overdue. Ray Lewis is getting alot older now so who knows how much is left in the tank?

I agree with you on both ends. But one thing I want to add about Marvin Lewis he can't seem to keep his players out of trouble with the law

So soon? Gee... it seemed he was just hitting his stride... I mean, some offensive geniuses take a little longer to get warmed up than others...

Sorry if I'm getting off subject but I wanted to comment.
I think thats why Marvin Lewis has the offense he does, because of his defensive genious. In him getting #85 and TJ and Carson, and then putting the offense to work the way he does is because he knows the problems that cause defenses.
Then on the other side of the ball. When a team is playing them, they know they will have to put up numbers and this is why teams throw down field on them so much. IMO this has something to with why the Browns have stepped up their offense so much. Then too, when most of your cap goes to the offense, that makes it even harder to try to get a Champ Baily or Lance Briggs type Free agents for the D.
I firmly believe the Patriots are the antichrist.

This is really going to put some pressure on Dallas. Parcells may even want to talk to him about going to Miami. Dallas is either going to have to make him the highest paid coordinator of all time and guarantee him the head coach job if he stays or go ahead and get rid of the little fat puppet on the sidelines and give Garrett the job now.

Only if it is about a HC job. Teams can refuse requests for all other interviews.
