Ohalete Not Expected to Receive Offer Sheet

Post by GoSkins »

According to article dated 4/16/04 in the Washington Post Nunyo Demasio states: "Safety Ifeanyi Ohalete isn't expected to receive an offer sheet."

If this is true, Sean Taylor will be drafted by the Redskins.

This means that Iffy won't get an offer sheet from another team and will stay with the Redskins. His departure would necessitate drafting Taylor but his staying doesn't really impact the decision.

I'd be sad to see Iffy leave. He's a great player, he has great character and really stepped up. Under some better coaching he could excel some more! We should keep him, at least for depth. I actually prefer him over Bowen.

I doubt if he hasn't recieved any offers as a RFA, that we would be able to trade him.....

The fact that he hasn't recieved any offers doesn't mean a thing.

Do you know how many other RFA's have recieved offers? Well, you can probably count them on one hand.

No one is willing to make offers anymore, trading him would be MUCH easier

I hope we don't trade him. He's another fiery character that this team desperately needs. We need more of his intensity on defense. He's not going to the Hall of Fame, but he's a Gibbs-type player who leaves everything on the field, and that's someone we need to keep.

The story is kinda poorly written -- but it means that Iffy won't be getting an offer sheet from ANOTHER team.

The Redskins gave him the minimum tender offer about a month ago, meaning they retained the right to match any offer Iffy, as a restricted FA, might get.

But the tender offer means, without an offer from elsewhere, he'll remain on the Redskins roster.

(I just got schooled on this on the draft board .... doh!)

What? If a team could try and sign him, why wouldn't they do that, instead of trying to trade for him? They'd have to give up something in a trade...

If they tried to signed him as a RFA they wouldn't have to give up anything because he was never drafted....

If he was wanted teams would have made an offer to him while he's a RFA....

No one's gonna give up something for him.....

As much as I like Ohalete I have to agree. If he wasn't given an offer sheet then you can expect that no one will trade for him. It would be a different scenario if Ohalete had been a draft pick. Since he wasn't a high draft pick, or a draft pick at all, he is seen as not having the upside of even a middle round safety. Despite that fact that he has done well here, he hasn't done well enough to warrant any trade value that would be worth getting rid of him for.

Now, should some team miss out on the safeties in this draft, or have a horrendous injury to thier starting safety, then we might be able to trade him. But short of that no one is going to give anything up.

You know what ? This is exactly what popped into my head first when I read this thread.
I hope we're not about to lose depth at S just so Portis can have his favorite number.
That's crap.

I agree with Chris LuvaLuva... I think Ohalete is better than Bowen is. Ohalete's faster, a better catcher, and from what I've seen in games Ohalete is even a better hitter. Bowen has a reputation for his big hits, but I just havent seen any except for the lick he put on Candidate in training camp last year. What does everyone else think?

I think there the same..... except I think Bowen has more upside..... I can't see how Iffy is a better catcher when they both had three picks last year......Speed, I'll give you, even though I don't remember Iffy chasing anyone down...... Hitting, uh no.... Bowen had 2 forced fumbles last year from hitting/tackling..... Iffy has a hard enough time tackling the guy.....

Hmmm - anyone know what Sean Taylor's number is? Here's a hint: 26.

I have been to some good games that the big "O" has had like his TD return. He is a good hitter and plays the run well.

He is not good in coverage, plays the angles poorly, takes too many chances and gets burned too many times. He is a backup only.

Is David Terrell Gone Yet......speaking of getting burned alot.

To hell with it I can solve this # thing.

3 man ladder match with the #26 jersey hanging in the center of the ring.

May the best man win !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
