Hey! Fred Smoot!

During the offseason when there was discussion here about Smoot returning to the Skins I am pretty sure I posted soemthing about him being all washed up after seeing a lot of him in the Bears division. To be honest, he truly was terrible with the Vikings which is why I said what I said but, after the season he has had, I gotta tip my hat to the fella and take it all back - he's had a great year and has been stellar the past couple of weeks. He's obviously loving being back with the Skins and it shows in his enthusiasm and his play. I hope y'all ride that enthusiasm and effort all the way to the Superbowl. Keep it up, man...and stay off the river!!

Thanks man. It's hard for me to dislike the Bears. Great organization. So what's the plan next year for the Bears at QB and RB? Letting go of Thomas Jones for C. Benson seems to have been a mistake, although TJ didn't do much either. Like the Skins, there seems to be no real dominant prospect at QB. I like Jason Campbell but he hasn't proved anything yet to me. I think the Skins need to continue to troll for signal callers, vets and young prospects.

Thanks BearSkins - McNabb maybe? OR do you think Orton might work out for you? He made some progress but he just does not seem to "fit" yet maybe with a veteran QB to help up there you might be okay - That D was disapointing this year but I'm sure they will be back in the top 10 next year

I do not agree with you and most of the posters on this board about Jason Campbell. I seriously think he will be another Jeff George. Cannon for an arm, smart, makes good reads but never gets beyond the cannon for an arm. If, and that is a big if, Jason Campbell learns to adjust the velocity of his throws he may become the quarterback everyone is hoping for. I doubt that he will learn to adjust.

You must not pay attention to the organazation AT ALL to call it great. I live here and I'm surrounded by news on the team. The organization is one of the worst in football. The ownership is the worst, and the GM is showing that he has no clue as to what's going on with the team. To have three terrible QB's on the roster, trade away the single best back they've had in years in Thomas Jones just to hold onto ANOTHER horrible drafted RB, is just mind numbing. I mean, what other team has a history of drafting RB's like the Bears? Cedric Benson, Anthony Thomas, R. Salaam, Curtis Enis. That's in the last 10 years.

I have no idea of how they reached the Super Bowl...actually I do. They were extremely lucky. I know, I know, you create your own luck, but when you're getting most of your TD's from the defense and special teams, that's a recipe that won't last.

honestly? I'd sign Rex to a 2 year. YEP, I said I'd sign Rex to a 2 year deal. He's gonna be cheaper to sign now, that's for sure, and before he got injured he started playing really well - like he had FINALLY gottem it. Let him and Orton fight it out for the #1 spot, trade Griese away for a draft pick and bolster the Oline. The line is what was behind most of the RB/QB woes last year and they badly need to get younger and more disciplined. Benson can go, he's shown nothing - not helped, perhaps, by his laid=back demeanour I am sure but a change of scenery would do him and us good. Replacing him? I dunno. I don't know College ball so I dunno who the hot prospects are and, anyway, the Bears aren't to be trusted at picking RBs. That leaves the FA market or trades. Michael Turner? He's local I believe so that may be a shout. Defense-wise, I'd love to see the Beras sign Briggs but they are too cheap to do that. I'd actually sign him, let him play middle and move urlacher to weakside and let Jamar Williams )who has looked good in spots) start at strong. The rest of the D needs only to stay healthy - aside from Darwin Walker who can leave any time he likes. Probably pull a muscle picking up his paycheck....

To be honest, he hasn't been all that great. That interception with the Vikes fell into his lap and he got burnt by a 3rd and 4th stringer last week, but the guy couldn't catch them. I think he is a modest CB and he is a great trash-talker, but he must step up better against the Seahawks, who have 4 really good WRs....Hackett, Branch(when healthy), Burelson, and Egram...If he can show up against them, then I will feel better when we head back to Dallas.

To be honest, he hasn't been all that great.

I agree. He still has good hands, takes good chances and is a fearless (if sloppy) tackler. But he's at least a step slower, and doesn't stand a chance in one-on-one match-ups, especially if that match-up includes multiple moves on seven step drops. He's been left on an island a lot recently, and we've been lucky it hasn't really cost us.

The good news is that he should have plenty of help against Seattle, since we don't allow teams to run and they don't even plan on it. Still, he's going to need to have a good game. With Shawn Springs playing his best ball in seemingly forever, a smart coach like Holmgrem is going to target Smoot, early and often.

Actually I think Smoot has been pretty good this year. He can still hold his own.

We will see how well he does in the playoffs. Seattle should prove to be a good test for the whole defense.
