Smoot's Revenge
Who else LOVED that! Right in front of Minny's sideline! In your face! You couldn't have scripted a better first defensive series. Who decided to bring back Fred? Joe Gibbs. Only dissapointment was Sellers not getting in, but safety was sweet.

Oh, but Sellers did get in. I'm so tired of being screwed by instant replays that they still get wrong. There was no visual evidence to overturn that call.

I still can't believe they made that call. You're right about it being no visual evidence...there's a bad mistake for ya.

Instant replay needs to have a replay official in the booth that looks at all plays and stops the game as necessary sort of like college. That official should travel independent of all the official teams. Now we asking an official who blew the call, or whose buddy blew the call correct it. Now tonights call was mind blowing. I have no idea what he thought he saw. To my understanding, he only has the views provided by the tv coverage. Everything NBC showed was touchdown.

Human nature would suggest that the official was under the influence of the crowd on that one. No team can say they've been mistreated by officials all year more then us; when was the last time we got a pass interference call our way offensively or defensively, I saw springs get pushed off in the facemask in the endzone...no flag. OHHH AND GO WATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS ON NFL.COM at the end of the Smoot int after Fred was out of bounds and the play was dead someone nails Landry square in the back sending him violently to the ground could've cost us another starting safety again No Flag.

I don't think that Sellers got in. Several angles appeared to confirm that. However, I was surprised that they overturned the call on the field because imo there wasn't conclusive evidence showing that he didn't get in. If the ruling on the field had been that he didn't get in I wouldn't have had a problem with it but they shouldn't have overturned it.

I agree with you on all of this, JSPB.
However, instead of 7 points on that occasion, we did end up with 9 instead.

I would agree in most cases, but no way do I think one official reviewing plays would have caught the 12 men on the field when Gibb's challenged that play. Whoever told Gibb's, or if it was Gibb's himself, to challenge that play deserves a BONUS...
My children, gather round! No retreat, no surrender; that is Spartan law. And by Spartan law we will stand and fight... and die. A new age has begun. An age of freedom, and all will know, that 300 Spartans gave their last breaths to defend it!
The Sellers call was one of those where whatever they called on the field should have stood because there was no visual evidence that absolutely proved that it was or was not a TD.
They ruled it a TD on the field and there was no angle that showed he DEFINITELY did not get in, so it should have stood as a TD.
Oh well... I'm over it now.

SHAMEFUL.
LOL. Do you guys ever talk to any fans from other teams? Every fan is convinced that the refs are out to get them more than any other team.
The fact is that people tend to remember the calls that go against them but never the one that go their way. It isn't some great conspiracy by the officials against any one team - if anything it is just a general level of incompetence by the officiating staff in general. I, for one, think the NFL should move to full time officials like every other professional sport... but this is for another thread.
It is a little understandable (but still incorrect) when fans bitch and moan about the refs when they are on the wrong end of a call and end up losing. But complaining about the refs after a win... that's just paranoia.

That might be true of some fans, but I don't think it applies here. Personally, I often point out blown calls in games in which the Skins are not playing (check the around the league thread). Also, no team gets the benefit of more bogus calls, reversals, or non-calls than the Dallas Cowpies. I think they set a new record for zebras sent to the Pro-Bowl this season.
