Redskins/Cowboys Rivalry

Post by DEHog »

ESPN had a poll today and the Skins/Boys finished last behind Sox/Yankees Army/Navy Ohio ST/Michigan and Duke/NC as the best rivalry in sports poll. We need to do something!!! Maybe Lavar can take a page out of Sapp’s book and run through the Boys warm-up line or something. This rivalry needs some heating up!!

Actually, I hope the the 'Skins get alot better(Obviously), but that the Cowboys get good enough to play on our level and beat us sometimes. That way, the games are bigger and we see them more on Turkey Day, Christmas, Monday Night... Also, that way, they help knock the Eagles and Giants out of our way.

They have the rivalry issue about right. I would probably rank them in that order. The fact that the series really hasn't been close recently and neither team has really been anything since the mid-90s also plays a role.

Curveball I agree but if all of these games were played at the same time I know what we would be tuned into

I agree with the Curve-Master-General on this one. If/when both teams become playoff teams and start playing each other with the NFC East...or even the NFC at stake....only THEN will the "real" rivalry be back....for those nonbelievers.

As for me, it has always been there.

Actually, I don't think that ranking is too bad at all. We are tops of the NFL rivalries, right?
What we would need to do though, is to start beating the Cowboys at least some of the time. It almost doesn't seem to matter how good our team is, they still beat us. What are we...1-12 or some thing in the last several years? Thank God we brooke that streak, but they've started it back up again. Let's hope Coach will change all of that (which I think he will).

I guees the real question would be "what is the 2nd best NFL rivalry"?

I would guess maybe Pittsburgh/Cleveland, but Cleveland's absence for a few year really seemed to take some of the bitterness away.

Maybe Demver/Raiders?

Washington/Dallas is so far ahead of 2nd place it's not even funny.

the problem is that the cowboys own us to be a rivalry we have to win and be pretty equal with the team that you are to have a rivalry with.i don't think unc and duke are either because of duke winning all the time.REDSKINZ4EVER!!!

I answer that the reals Redskins have not played since Norve Turner demolished the Gibbs/Petibon/Hannifan/Grimm team...players, coaches, tradition, everything. They've been playing dressup, like my kid who wanted to be a fireman one day. We got him a fireman's helmet for Chrisatmas one year, but that didn't mean he belong in the NYFD. Same with Heath Shuler ans Michael Westbrook.

Now the real coach is back, and he's looking for real Redskins.

My only qualm would be how Duke/NC is ranked so high on the list. There might be a lot of history there, but Duke hasn't had too much trouble with NC in the last 5 years (while our Terps continue to beat Duke at least once every year. . .). I realize that the Redskins-Cowboys games have been just as lopsided in results, but in my opinion at least our games are a lot closer.

And while it's still in its infancy, you can't forget Browns/Ravens. Jeez, it seems like the Browns hate everyone...

The Redskin/Dallas rivalry hasn't been the same for a long time. The reason is pretty obvious: We haven't been very good since the early 90s. And they weren't very good for several years before that.

If we could raise George Allen from the dead, that will help kick it up a notch-after all, he was the one I credit for creating the rivalry. The next most important person in perpetuating the rilvary was Diron Talbert. After that Dexter Manley. Maybe we can get Dexter to say something stupid--he was quite good at that!

Naw, the absoluted climax to the rivalry occurred in Jan 83, at the "We want Dallas" NFC championship game. It hasn't been the same since.

I heard Mark Schlereth talking about Denver-Oakland the other day. I would say that is the number two rivalry, although Denver had a similar record against them as the pukes have against us.

It seemed like the Eagles/Bucs was turning into a pretty heavy rivalry over the last couple years, too, but yeah, nothing can touch the history of the Redskins/Cowboys rivalries.

They've owned us the last five years or so, but our time is coming around again. And we've owned THEM in the games that have really meant something. 2-0 in NFC Championship games against them, beat them in the last game at RFK, beat them during Green's last game AND Smith's last game, etc.

I guarantee the rivalry will be heating up a LOT this year. I just really want to beat them in Texas Stadium again. Been way too long...

ROTFALMAO ROTFALMAOI don't think that any of the aformentioned rivalries touch ours with the 'Boys. Yes we've stuck it up for quite a few years, but everyone knows about us. Sonny mentioned Bucs/Eagles...You've got to be kidding me. All they are is conference opponents that seem to make it to the top, ten playing a meaningful game. Not anywhere close to a rivalry.
Coach Gibbs will strighten things out. Boy would I love for him to stick around for his entire contract :D
