Wait. What "premier backs" have we played against?
Dolphins: Ronnie Brown was awful at the beginning of the season (not just against the Redskins)
Eagles I: Uh Westbrook was killing us. 162 combined yards.
Giants I: Derrick Ward had 94 yards rushing.
Detroit: Kevin Jones was averaging 4.4 a carry, but thanks to Mike Martz only got the ball 11 times. Mike Martz shut him down.
Green Bay: We did shut down that premier back, DeShawn Wynn.
Arizona: We did shut down Edgerrin James (3.1 ypc, albiet 83 yards), but I don't put much faith in that. He's averaging 3.8 this year...not great.
New England: Not worth it.
NY Jets: They averaged 4.8 yards per carry against us. I guess we shut down Thomas Jones (3.8 ypc, 49 yards)? Premier back...no.
Eagles II: Westbrook: 20 carries, 100 yards, 1 TD. 83 yards receiving, 2 TDs. 183 yards and 3 TDs. Uh...no.
Bucs: Earnest Graham, 21 carries, 75 yards, 1 TD. I guess that's shutting him down, but he's definitely not a premier back.
Buffalo: Marshawn Lynch out. His backup had 16 carries, 82 yards (5.1 ypc), and another 69 yards receiving. 151 yards...not shut down.
Bears: Lol. We kicked Adrian Peterson's butt! Oh wait..wrong one.
Giants: Brandon Jacobs...25 carries, 130 yards (5.2 ypc).
To me, it doesn't seem like we have played many premier backs, and we've only "shut down" crappy RBs like the other Adrian Peterson and DeShawn Wynne.
The very good RBs we've faced, like Westbrook (345 combined yards in 2 games...), and Brandon Jacobs (130 yards rushing in one game), have killed us.
Did I miss something?
No i took it into account- im talking rushing yards because adrian peterson doesnt catch the ball outa the backfield- thats a part to his game he hasnt done well at. We rank in the top 10 in rush defense- sure your gona give up yards to backs but overall the redskins have defended well against the run and how many rushing yards did westbrook get in the skins win. u said he got 100 the second time. Ok i can see your point but shuting down opposing running backs doesnt only mean holding them to under 50 yards- it means not letting them dictate the outcome of the game. Westbrook last td the was because we let him score on a 15 yard run to get the ball back. Stats can be decieving.
