NYTimes: Sizing Up the Draft

Post by ANT7088 »

5. WASHINGTON REDSKINS For all the money they have spent, they have not begun to address their woeful offensive line. Now they are desperately trying to trade up to the No. 2 spot and grab offensive tackle Robert Gallery.

Why do these no nothing sports writers continue to hammer the offensive line?

I doubt very highly that there are many teams out there with the skill and bulk that Samuels, Dockery, Raymer, Thomas and Jansen provide. No one seems to know that Spurrier's blocking schemes were to blame, and not the personnel.

i THink it may be lack of effort more than anything else. They see that a quarterback has been sacked X times more than most qbs..oh then the men on his line must really really suck. Thats just a common sense deduction. It's also wrong. Most writers i havce read have, in reality, little clue on what they are talking about.

Ignorance. Since they are in New York, they have less access to following the situation and understadning the Redskins like most of us do. Ignoarance doesn't mean they are stupid, just that they don't know what has happened and then they try to write about it.

Gallery would be the 4th best o-lineman on the team next year (at best) if the Skins drafted. No way is he better than Samuels, Jansen, or Randy Thomas.

The run blocking potential for this line is pretty amazing. Be interesting to see what Bugel can do with them.

The NY Times quote is disturbing. If you call yourself a sports writer it makes sense to have information on the topic you write about. That being said...

The 'Skins will have one of the better O-lines in the game if Cory Raymer can regain his form. I was disappointed when Cory left for SD (along with Stephen Alexander). Now that he is back I hope he can become an anchor in the middle of the line. Samuels, Jansen, and Thomas are the core. Raymer (if healthy) will be an upgrade at center. The big question is Fiore or Dockery. I truly belive Dockery will be a very good player for us under the guidance of Bugle & Gibbs. If Dockery is ready to commit to winning I think our O-line will be the best in the NFL bar none.
In memorium Sean Taylor 1983-2007 R.I.P.

Long live the Legend of "Meast".
