Petrino resigns as Falcons coach

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Petrino resigns as Falcons coach

Post by RedskinsFreak »

Alert just moved on AP.

ESPN is adding that he's quitting Atlanta in order to go back to college and take the Arkansas job.

Any coach who just bails out is not worth a penny.

Exactly. Good riddance. At least Saban improved the Dolphins in his short tenure. Mr. Petrino was well on his way to being a worse coach than Spurrier. He probably would've been fired after next season anyway; he just saved Mr. Blank the trouble by cutting bait early.
The only negative to this is that DeAngelo Hall will not be available for a bargain price this offseason.

He's the ultimate sellout. Hard not to believe that this was just a springboard into a cushy next-level (from Louisville) college coaching job. To quit and not even have the decency to face your boss? Karma is nothing to play with and cats like Petrino ALWAYS get what's coming to them.
Cowboys 7- Redskins 6 (All we needed was 2 minutes of the 60)
Cowboys 17 - Redskins 0 (Way to NOT show up for the 100th anniversary)

While I agree that his decision is very disapointing for a lot of reasons - this is going to cost Petrino 8 million dollars in salary over the next 4 years - he must have really wanted out
Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I wouldn't have wanted to coach the Falcons while they had Vick, but having the chance to build your own team would seem like an ideal situation for a coach.

Whatever, maybe he just took the "you wouldn't make it in pro-football" commercials too seriously...

This is one of the most cowardly and vile actions I have ever seen from a coach. If Arkansas is OK with this, then they will, undoubtedly, get what they deserve.

Atlanta is a fine football town, and they deserve better.

It's more of a college football town, but if the Falcons would actually put a respectable product on the field for a couple of years straight, they might put a few butts in the seats. Sadly, Mike Vick hurt the franchise almost as much as he hurt himself.

I heard rumors that he would be leaving, however what I heard was he would be leaving after the season ended. This is classless, and this guy lied to Auther Blank and then bolted after they got beat badly. I have no respect for this dude.

I wonder if Petrino called him for career advice.

"Nick, I want to pull a Saban. Should I talk to Blank, or just leave a voice mail?"

How 'bout the note he left in each Falcons' locker:

Atlanta Falcons players:

Out of my respect for you, I am letting you know that, with a heavy heart, I resigned today as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. This decision was not easy, but it was made in the best interests of me and my family. While my desire would have been to finish out what has been a difficult season for us all, circumstances did not allow me to do so. I appreciate your hard work and wish you the best.

Sincerely,

Bobby Petrino

=================
Translation:

Out of fear for my safety, I had this note written to relay to you that, with a sigh of relief, I quit today as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons (please tell Arthur I'm sorry). The decision was made without a 2nd thought (Ask Louisville) and was made in the best interest of me finally getting an offer to coach an SEC school-hallelujah. While my desire would have been to collect a few more paychecks and disappear after this joke of a season was complete, circumstances, such as recruiting deadlines (Oh yeah, I took the Arkansas job) did not allow me to do so. I appreciate you not making too much of a fuss and wish this never happened.

Disloyally,

Bobby Petrino
