Collins named NFC Offensive Player of the week

Post by skinsfan1 »

Todd Collins is the Redskins' new starting quarterback. And now he's the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Collins earned the award for his performance in the Redskins' 24-16 win over the Chicago Bears at FedExField last Thursday.

Collins entered the game for an injured Jason Campbell in the second quarter and led the team to a key victory. Collins completed 15 of 20 passes for 224 yards and two touchdowns for a QB rating of 144.6.

Tuesday was filled with praise for Collins, a 13-year NFL veteran in his second season with the Redskins. After a weekend off from football, players returned en masse to Redskins Park on Tuesday ready to begin preparation for this week's game against the New York Giants

That's great. Collins is certainly derserving.

He's a super smart guy who fights his guts out. A core guy who knows we are all in this together.

Not a fan out there who wouldn't be happy to see Collins become the second coming of Mark Rypien.

Go for it, Todd!

Not to take anything away from Collins, he turned in a crisp, efficient performance in the clutch, but this just shows how pathetic the NFC is in comparison with the AFC this year.
Where would his offensive performance have ranked in the AFC last week? Maybe in the top 20...

well it was similar to derek andersons start this year, though your right anderson put up a few TD's in his first start, where i am just hoping that he (Collins) can put enough td's on the board to secure us a win and keep our playoff hopes alive.
Well what more would you expect out of the "Worst Team" in the "Best Division"

Um, folks, you can look this stuff up: 16 quarterbacks threw for more yards than did Collins, 10 of them play for NFC teams. Eight quarterbacks threw more touchdowns, five of them are in the AFC. Twenty-four QBs had more completions, 13 play in the NFC. Only one QB posted a higher passer rating and his name is Peyton Manning. And NONE of those guys spent the past decade on the sidelines while rarely even making a pass attempt. So let's just celebrate what the man accomplished and not try to make it sound like he won because the NFC sucks.

Well, even beyond that, I just meant that it's probably the first NFL-wide award that he's ever won. I'm sure some of the teams that he's played for have felt sorry for him and have given him a "Most Supportive Teammate" award at the end of the year or something.

I'd say that this would be an absolute certainty ... there are only 16 teams in the AFC!

True.. he did have what, 144 QB rating? Though I do believe if he was in the game longer it wouldn't be so high.

Collins was definitely impressive. Hopefully for the Skins, it carries over to a solid performance in the frigid Meadowlands. I think the forecast for the game is somewhere in the mid 20's. Nothing like cold December/January football, man. Good luck.
Cowboys 7- Redskins 6 (All we needed was 2 minutes of the 60)
Cowboys 17 - Redskins 0 (Way to NOT show up for the 100th anniversary)

Exactly.... And those were numbers posted in the SECOND half, not the whole game.
