B. Lloyd
I was just wondering what the Salary Cap ramifications be if we were to trade away B. Lloyd for a draft pick?
B. Lloyd rarely got a chance to play. I am not sure if he is getting along with the coaching staff either. I dont blame him.
It might be in the best interests for both parties to part ways? What kind of value would we get for B. Lloyd? What kind of salary cap hit would we take?
The way I see it , I would try to get a mid round draft pick for Lloyd. Basically I want the front office to prepare stocking draft picks if possible. Trying to gain extra draft picks.
They should try to package Betts and Lloyd for possible draft picks. Any player we dont use, I would like to have our front office try and gain draft picks. Of course keeping the salary cap in mind.
Back to the topic of Lloyd, It seems to me it is best for Lloyd to go to a team who will actually play him. Also if we are not using him , why not try and get a draft pick for him?I figure a third to fourth round pick. I would love to get a second rounder but I doubt it.

we'd be lucky to get a 6th for Lloyd. doubt we'd get anything for him. especially when everyone knows were going to cut him anyway.
I wouldn't mind trying to trade something small (like a 6th) for Matt Jones in the off-season from the Jags. He'd be a nice, tall end-zone threat. He's in the doghouse there like Lloyd is here. getting guy cheap like that, we dont have a helluva lot to lose.

Matt Jones is a converted Wide receiver. In college he was a QB. I really dont know how good he would be.
Also I dont like the idea of us giving away our draft picks. I want us to gain additional picks. Particularly in the early rounds.

There's this ideal in football, it's called quality depth. When there's not quality depth in a particular position, you run the chance, EVERY PLAY, that you are going to have a hole in said position once your starter goes down. Remember last year when CP wasn't playing due to multiple injuries? This guy you're trying to get rid of, which we've just resigned, stepped up and had a monster year. If were to cut him, we have Rock. While Rock is an OUSTANDING ST player, he's not a starting running back. Would you really like to do that since CP has been hurt this year AND last year? I don't see that as the most intelligent move on the part of the Redskins. Another case in point, our offensive line.....
...any given Sunday....

Just like David Patten and ESPECIALLY Walt Harris. BTW, David had a heck of a game last night. The same will happen to Carlos Rogers.
We have the players, we just don't have the talent to surround them with.
DB's need a pass rush to flourish.
WR's need a QB, opportunities, and a good run game. David had 1/3, Lloyd had 1.5-2/3...depending on the time frame. (Aside from his own mistakes)

I don't believe a trade helps our cap situation over cutting him so there's no reason to give someone a pick to trade him. I don't agree no one will want him, I think he'll latch on to another team. However, I do agree no one will give us a pick for him since it's obvious at this point we're going to cut him. If we aren't going to cut him that we didn't play him when we were down to guys who were teaching gym the week before then as steadfast a supporter of the current regime I've been then even I will have to ask what the heck they are thinking.

I totally agree with your point. The one scenario I could see is if someone's willing to make us a great offer based on his performance last year and their need. But unless that happens we're in great shape as you point out.

I like Lloyd and wonder why they seemed to want to keep him and then made so little effort to get him the ball - that and some other evidence these past few years are very disturbing about our coaching staff.
I think Lloyd will be gone - why would they go through that again? but IMO we need to keep Portis and Betts - Portis and Betts behind a decent to good line are very good RBs and you need at least 2
I think we have 4 positions to address before next season - on offense we need a WR and depth on the line - on defense we need a CB and depth on the line - most importantly on both lines we need players that complement each other and make the other players around them more effective - these lines are both very important and every team has injuries to their linemen - you have to have quality depth. I think GW felt that he had lineman that would step up and unfortunately despite all their efforts we just did not seem to have a line that could hold up (and consistently pressure the QB) against most offensive lines we played this year - pressure from the line and stopping the run effectively makes your secondary look a lot better.
above all else - we need a GM
If Gibbs can get a GM then next year we will have a GM that can also be a part of selecting our new coach for 2009 - even if we go with Greg Williams we need a GM who is in charge of the players and coaches - Maybe Gibbs will stay on as President and to control Danny (Cerrato should retire or commit hari-kari)

Until recently, Snyder & Allen have made a lot of really bad decisions - nobody with any sense believes this franchise will get better under their guidance
Snyder's W/L record = 45% (80-96) - Snyder/Allen = 41% (59-84-1)

I can't understand why so many people say this guy never was given a chance.
That is total horse hockey!
He was an average performer on a bad team in SF and they were glad to get rid of him. Yes, he lead their team in catches (less than 50), made some highlight catches, but was just an average WR.
We gave him a new contract based on nothing he did in SF, but based on "potential". We gave him a Starting WR job in 06. In 06 he played more downs than any other WR, but still he had essentially lost his starting job to ARE by the end of the season.
We gave him a chance to compete with ARE for the #2 WR spot. ARE won. The coaching staff got fed up with him after the Miami game. That was more time than Ramsey got in 05 to keep his starting job, he only got 1/3 of a game. As a matter of fact Gibbs gave Lloyd way more chances than he ever gave Ramsey, but I don't see people crying a river for Patrick.
It took less time to for AA to find his way to the bench than BL. AA and BL are the same player. Two guys we should have know wouldn't workout here and two guys we should never have signed. But they both got a shot AND FAILED! BL just got chance, after chance to prove he was an NFL WR. Not as many as we gave Michael Westbrook, but hey, Lloyd doesn't have half the "potential" Westbrook had.
If we can get a 6th and cap relief for AA, maybe we can get a 6th for BL.

What you're saying about Lloyd was said about David Patten and Walt Harris... Whats your point? TJ Duckett and AA are still mediocre.
Sometimes it's us, sometimes it's the player. It's not open and shut and I'm sure that Llloyd will do better on a team that actually knows how to use WR's.

I think there is a difference between "giving a player a chance" and including plays that mean that player would get opportunities to be a part of the game. The team seemed to want Lloyd here but did not, in my opinion, use him well or even very often
This coaching group has not used a number of players talents and attributes very well in my very humble opinion. AND they have brought in players that did not seem to fit once they got here.
Not indicative of a staff that is very good at evaluating personnel and how they will suit our team.

Betts has been a solid backup and filled in admirably last year when CP was out. I totally agree if someone gives us starter compensation for him based on their need we take it. But why would we take "what we could get" for a solid, cost effective backup?

It's that kind of crazy thinking (keeping Betts) that leads to the sicknesses known as depth and cap management. Who needs those things?

Well, if we had gotten rid of Betts before CP got hurt, we'd have to start Rock. I'm glad Betts was here and I hope he stays. As for Lloyd, if we do trade him, I hope somehow we can get a linesman because I think we have enough guys at the WR position. If we cut him, well, we cut him, someone will grab him up, and he'll go on to maybe becoming a HOF WR because that's what we do... LOL

I don't think you can trade for referees. Well, actually I'm not too sure about that, because Dallas seems to have several on their team.

You must have forgotten the failed goaline run against the giants? Or how about the times he failed to pick up first downs. I like Betts but If we could get a second rounder for him, I would pull the trigger.
