Playoff help - Gameday thread

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Playoff help - Gameday thread

Post by Deadskins »

This thread is for commentary on the games with playoff implications to the Skins (Pies-Lions, G-strings-E-gals, Cardinals-Seahawks, and Saints-Falcons).

Detroit is leading Dallas right now 13-7 after having to settle for three when the refs didn't throw a flag on obvious Roy Williams' pass interference in the end-zone. (Gee, the Pies get a break from the zebras; I never thought I'd see the day! [/sarcasm])

The last update I saw had the E-gals up 7-3 over the G-strings.

TD Pies, 20-14, 0:29 left in the half.

20-14 Lions at the half. Once again the zebras do not throw the flag for blatant pass interference on the Pies with 0:04 left on the clock, which would have put the Lions in FG range.

We really need Dallas to pull it out. It would be just like the Cowboys to screw us even in defeat.

I'm still torn on who to root for in the Giants/Eagles game. It's 7-6 Philly at the half.

The other 1:00 game that has any real degree of relevance is Jags/Panthers - 10-6 Jacksonville late in the 2nd quarter.

Not really. The Lions will lose at least one more, so we really don't need the Pies help. Personally, I always like to see them lose, and since it's not critical, I am pulling for the Lions. I'd like to see Dallas lose to them and us in the final game, and lose out on home-field advantage.

Probably, but I'd rather just get that taken care of this week. And I know most people here don't think it matters/care, but I'd prefer that the Cowboys have home-field advantage wrapped up going into Week 17.

Detroit missed a 35 yard FG that would have made it a two score game with 10:45 left in the 4th. Still 27-21 Lions.

G-strings up 16-10 over the E-gals.

Jacksonville taking care of Carolina. That's one thing we can cross off the list.

Good. I understand not wanting to root for Dallas, but a Cowboys loss helps the Redskins in no way.

Return to the 16. :11 left.
Incomplete pass. :06 left.
Incomplete pass. :02 left.
Kitna fumbles when hit on final play. Dallas wins. Detroit goes to 6-7.
The missed FG and non-calls by the refs give Dallas yet another win.

G-strings win 16-13 over the E-gals, so no help there.
I just saw the replay, and the E-gals' kicker hit the upright on a tying FG with :01 left on the clock.

It puts distance between us and Philly.

Updated situation:

If Washington wins out, two of these three things must happen:

Code: Select all

1: Arizona must lose once
2: New Orleans must lose once
-OR- Tampa Bay must lose out and New Orleans must not finish 8-8
3: New York must lose out

Simple version: We need Arizona and New Orleans to lose once

We didn't need it. We have a better Division and Conference record.

17-0 Seattle. We're a Monday Night upset away from controlling our own destiny.

It should be noted that even though all of our playoff scenarios are being based on the idea that the Redskins win out, the NFC is so putrid that an 8-8 team could sneak in. That's why the Eagles loss does still help, and why I'm disappointed that the 49ers are rolling over for Minnesota.

24-7 now. A G-string loss, with us, at Buffalo, and NE left could have also opened the door to 8-8 getting in for us. Whatever, it's done now. It looks like we are going to control our own destiny. I'm still not convinced we need the Saints to lose. I think we own the tie-breaker over them due to Conference record and games against common opponents.

By my count, the Redskins have five conference losses and the Saints have four. If we tie at 9-7, the Saints would have the tiebreaker.

edit - this is giving me a headache. We need two of three, assuming the Redskins win out:

Code: Select all

1: Arizona must lose once
2: New Orleans must lose once
-OR- Tampa Bay must lose out and New Orleans must win out
3: New York must lose out
