Is it heresy to root for the Cowpukes this week?

Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

Is it heresy to root for the Cowpukes this week?

Post by Mississippi Hog »

I was looking at the wildcard playoff race, I noticed that we really the pukes to win this week. We need all the help we can get, and they have the division pretty much locked up. Detroit is 6-6. We need them to lose. We don't have to root hard for them, but is it wrong to be okay with a Pukes win? As much as it pains me to see them win, we need them to. For the record, the thought of it really makes me want to puke.

You root for whoever will help you make the playoffs, Cowboys or not. So, yes, go Cowboys!

Texas Hog: I can understand your homer approach, but the Skins need help to get in, and the Cowpies beating Detroit would help. And on a side note, if the Pies make the SB against the Patriots, I will root for the Pies all night long. In fact, I would hope the final score would be Pies 52 Pats 7.

No true Redskin fan would ever root for the Pukes IMO. If that's a 'homer approach'....so be it.

You swallow your pride, look the other way, and check the score on SportsCenter.

Also, root for Seattle over Arizona

and San Francisco over Minnesota

and Jacksonville over Carolina

and the NY Giants over Philly

and Atlanta over New Orleans

.... if all that happens this weekend, the Redskins would be IN the sixth playoff spot:

they'd be tied with ARZ, DET and MIN ... and will have beaten ARZ and DET and be a half-game better in NFC record vs. MIN (and the chance to beat them head-up later this season)

Did I predict playoff talk if we won tonight? Geez, I am a genius.

If the Pukes can help the skins, jokes on them. If they really hated the skins, they would take a loss. I'll put our fate in their hands. You know they love us deep down inside.

Heresy or not, I'm going to root for the pukes the rest of the year in honor of their gracious concern over our loss of Sean Taylor. As far as I'm concerned, hostilities are suspended, temporarily at least.

I seriously hope you are not serious. Especially since, WE PLAY THEM IN DECEMBER!!!!!! I hope they beat the Lions, b/c that helps us. On the other hand, a Lions win isn't horrible, b/c they still have a tough schedule to play out and could lose next week, and it would be just as good for us. So maybe we can still root against the pukes. I have always wondered how I would handle the predicament of a Pukes win helping us. What pain and misery this has brought!!! I don't want to think about it. I added Sellers to my fantasy team tonight on a whim, and it paid off. Hail to the Redskins!!!!! Great win!!!! Did you see Cooley tonight?

I agree with those that the Cowboys were very gracious over ST. Anyway OFF the football field it's not like I would spit on their shoes or burn their house down anyway. I understand the thinking their winning helps get us in.

But they are the freaking COWBOYS! Like you I cannot root for them or even not root against them EVER.

I have figured it out - I will root against Detroit.

Sorry TH, but you have to go with what is best for the Skins. We can't catch Dallas, but we can catch Detroit. You just don't watch the game - that way your emotions don't get in the way.

Exactly! I'll never root for dallas. We should have played better this season instead of wishing for help from the girls.

No, I will root against the Cowboys when they play us, but for them when they play anyone else, especially the Patriots and Colts.

Cooley for All Pro, with Taylor. That's a bandwagon I hope everyone's on.
I used to think Jerry Smith the best TE in Redskin history, but now think Coolley is.

What I want to happen is whatever helps the redskins get into the playoffs. That is my only concern at the moment. If the cowboys help us in doing so....then so be it.

So in other words, if, at some time in the future, the Cowboys were playing, say, the Eagles, and a Cowboy loss meant we would miss the playoffs but a Cowboy win meant we would get home field advantage throughout, you would root for the Eagles even though that Cowboy loss would keep us out?

All a true fan has to do is to root for his (or her) own team, the rest is irrelevant.

You'd sacrifice a playoff spot and a shot -- no matter how slim it might be, you gotta be in it to win it -- at the NFL Championship for the sake of one relatively measly Dallas victory?

Big picture wins out here.
