Trade DOWN if at all possible....

Post by madog29 »

Look I know Sean Taylor is a Beast, definite future probowler, possible Hall of Famer...

Having said that and assuming he's still on the board for the taking at number 5, I say trade down with Chicago, we must have more impact players on DFENSE front, no question!

One scenario, we give up our fith pick overall for their 14th and either 110 4th rounder or the (104 4th rounder that we gave them originally).

This is where it gets tricky, they (chicago) are thinking DT or WR, I say we throw in Rod Gardner for their 3rd I think 78th overall and another late round selection 6th or 7th...

(reasoning for dealing gardner/salary cap/draft picks/lack of production)

Overall & total picks we'll have 1st 14th, 3rd 78th, 4th 104 or 110th and (2 6 round picks) we could improve our defense across the board with those selections as opposed to having One great defensive player...whatcha think???

I will not be a redskins fan anymore if they draft Winslow...he's a punk....kiddin of course

It is true that the team has a few more needs to fill. There will be a number of teams that would love to swap spots with our team. I have thought about this draft and the players in it. Also reading and listening to the media. Majority of them all agree that Sean Taylor is a rare player. Every year there is Defensive Linemen that have the stats of Wilfork. Will Smith, Harris and the other D-linemen. Also, there is another Free-agent period in June. The Jets offered a Pro Bowl D-End to the skins when Champ was on the trade block. Word has it that the Jets will release him in June. It's most likely he won't be the only one. And of course there will be D-Tackles too. Finally, there is a saying that an old sports talk host use to say that has made sense, "High in the draft, to select a player based on need instesd of selecting the best player available. Is a mistake you will regret for a long time."

Not only that, but Rookie D-linemen rarely make an impact. Its not usually until a Linemen's second or third year that they start to even progress. There are certainly exceptions to this rule, but it is very hard to predict. Draft order isn't often a good predictor of anything when it comes to D-linemen. I would rather have one sure thing Safety, which has become more important now with the loss of Champ Bailey, than to take a chance on two D-linemen who might not contribute at all this year. I'm much more comfortable taking my chances with a 5th or 6th round pick on a DT than a first.

Things is; We'll be the team that traded away Sean Taylor, just like San Diego is the team that traded away Michael Vick.

ROTFALMAO..... pass-up a Definite Pro-Bowler, and possible Hall of Famer....

a Highly rated Safety like Taylor... only comes along every once in awhile.... D-Lineman you can get anytime, and there so unpredictable.... None of the DE or DT in this draft have stood out from one another.... Udeze,Smith,Harris, Wilfork, etc have been jumping up and down draft rating boards all offseason....and Taylor is rated higher than all of them....not many times do we get a top 5 pick.... we might as well use it on a stud.... rather than filling a need.... were there's not really a huge hole....

BringthePain your point is very valid about Taylor! I agree and know that he is a beast and future Pro Bowler and is just about as close to a lock as they come! I keep wavering on if I want the Redskins to take Taylor or address or d-line with Udeze or Harris!! I just wish we had signed someone else for our D-line other then Griffin! I would feel much more comfortable about it! BringthePain do you know the status of Brandon Noble coming off his injury? Anyways I will never make up my mind on who I want the Skins to take! I just want the draft to take place already so I can stop thinking about it!

We need Taylor!! We have other needs but to pass up Taylor would be a mistake.

I agree - and look at the D-Line 1st rounders from last year: Robertson, Sullivan, Williams, Suggs, Kennedy, Warren, Haynes, McDougle, Pace, and Joseph - only Suggs made a significant impact. They may blossom this year or maybe not: Taylor will start and contribute all 19 games...

I just don't want the skins to give up anything else. I don't like the trade up senario because we have given up too much already. If Gallery is still there at 5, take him, otherwise we'd be great with Taylor or to trade down with Houston and take a DL. Thing is, as someone pointed out, we don't have much cap room left so more picks isn't really that great at this stage. NO Winslow!!!
