NFL Rumors - October 2nd

Post by PSD »

Panthers to open talks with Smith
Steve Smith could be the next Panther in line for a new contract. The Charlotte Observer's Pat Yasinskas reports that the Panthers are planning on opening contract talks with Smith to ensure that he doesn't become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

Bailey playing for new deal
The Washington Times' Jody Foldesy reports that Champ Bailey's fine play this season could end up costing the Redskins. Bailey and the Redskins are expected to resume negotiations on a contract extension in a month or two and the cornerback's recent NFC Defensive Player of the Week Award will only increase his bargaining power.

Gadsden hoping to rejoin Dolphins
Although he is free to sign with any team, former Dolphins receiver Oronde Gadsden wants to return to Miami. The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero reports that if the Dolphins do decide to sign Gadsden, he won't be able to play until Nov. 16.

Bucs, Redskins eyeing Chamberlain
The Tampa Tribune's Katherine Smith reports that the Buccaneers are hoping to bring former Vikings tight end Byron Chamberlain in for a workout next week. The Redskins are expected to take a look at Chamberlain today.

Jaguars may choose Leftwich over Brunell
Mark Brunell says he is ready to return to the starting lineup, but the Jaguars may keep him on the bench. Although Brunell's elbow injury appears to be fully healed, the Jacksonville Times-Union's Bart Hubbuch reports that the Jags may go with Byron Leftwich instead.

:)

I can't believe that someone with that much at stake would let themselves get out of shape. How much money did he cost himself? Tice told him that he would be cut if he wasn't in shape, but he still let himself go...

... as I said in the other post... the weight isn't nearly as relevant as the 'bad attitude' it takes to let yourself slip into that position.

Surprising really... Chamberlain was top-drawer last year.
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.
