Portis: Home invasion, nothing was taken, unfortunate situation. You think back how much heat he took for everything, all that means nothing now that he is fighting for his life. Everything that seems so big that everyone made a big ordeal about is nothing now that the man is fighting for his life.
It ain't Miami, a lot of athletes have been targeted. He's always smiling, always happy. Never been to his house, not a bad neighborhood, this can happen anywhere. What we play is a game, not life and death, this is life and death. I've been told he lost a lot of blood and he's fighting to hang on.
i'm sick to my stomach about this. i was supposed to put up my christmas tree with my wife tonight. i just told her that might be on hold cause i am so bummed out.
since i started this thread with a post from rotoworld, and they were one of the first to report this news... i will consider this both reliable and slightly optimistic.
i think because his heart is in such good shape they are able to put more blood in his body through transfusions and whatnot because his heart can handle pumping that much and that fast. i pray that he continues only to get better and takes as much time as he needs to become full strength again, if not for the redskins then especially and most importantly for his baby.
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.
I wonder if I am the only one here who feels as if he is a member of your family. I personally was almost in tears when I heard this and I have never met him in my life. My prayers go out to him and his family.
Well what more would you expect out of the "Worst Team" in the "Best Division"
i am with you xhadow...i work for the skins down in norfolk at the store and i feel as though every member of the organization is part of my family and when i heard the news i nearly cried, and i still have that lump in my throat. he is truly one of the best redskins and the best people in this world, and i feel proud to be able to acknowledge him as a part of my family in some way or another.
Sean, may you always rest in peace and look down on us with the same love that we look up to you.

Someone else said this made them feel sick to their stomach, I agree

yeah, i said that. i mean, i feel like we go to war with these guys on every sunday. when they get injured, it seems like we feel the pain too. we buy redskin jerseys not with our own name on the back, but theirs. if we get their autograph it would be like we were holding gold. i have mentioned on this thread before, my puppy is named santana. so it is no surprise to me that when one of our favorite redksin players is lying there fighting for his life, that we feel the pain as well.
I said it, I dunno just seeing people in pain puts a lump in my throat. It was hard for me to watch Pierson and Clinton and seeing how close to tears they were.

Some people deserve to be in pain.
Unfortunately, these things always happen to the people who don't deserve it.
Sean Taylor: a real person behind the blathering gossip.
This note just arrived from my Soldier son, Redskin Dan v1978:
Not sure if I ever told anyone this story, but when I was at Fort Meade in March, I saw Sean at a Best Buy near Landover. I told him what I was doing there and how cool it was to meet him in person. He said "thank you" for my service, and it was people like me who are the real hereos. He said that all he does is play football.
Sean Taylor...really a decent person. Hopes and prayers.

Every single anecdote I have heard about him—and there are quite a few of them that THN members have shared—betray him to be this kind of man. Not to pile on the nostalgia, but his demeanor with kids was just as admirable. He always told them "thank you" for talking to him, and he would sign their gear and ask them how they liked training camp.

Very rarely do you hear anything positive and personal about the 'skins safety. I was lucky enough to witness a very different side of ST yesterday, and I want to recount it here.
First, I'll need to start with a little background information. My son, Jackson, is a soon-to-be-six year old that has gained a bit of a reputation as a kid with an uncanny knowledge of Redskins personnel. After his second training camp, just prior to turning two, we bought him a 'Skins' yearbook and he would pick pages and ask who the players were. We would, of course, tell him who each player was. Soon, he could name every - and I mean EVERY - player listed inside that guide.
He could pick out Laveranues Coles on commercials without his uniform. His favorite player was Gibran Hamdan. Heck, the following year, NikiH took him through the lines of Fan Appreciation day and came back with a signature I couldn't read. NikiH didn't know who had signed it, only that it was the last guy at the table. Jackson says, "Oh. That was Bill Ferrario!" Anyone here beside Jake that could pick Bill Ferrario out of a line-up?
Now that that's out of the way, I'll get to Sean Taylor. I was taking Jackson around the VIP section getting autographs from some of his favorite players. We tried to get Fred Smoot, without any luck and I spied Sean Taylor. Jackson walks up with his book open, sees the 21 jersey and has a freudian slip. He says, "Excuse me Mr. Smoot. Will you please sign my yearbook?"
I lean down to correct him, but before I can, Taylor says, "I'd be happy to sign your book. What's your name?"
My son replies, "Jackson."
Taylor says, "Well, it's nice to meet you Jackson. My name is Sean and I'm very pleased to meet you. "
He signs the book, and Jackson says, "Thank you!" , to which Taylor replies, "Thank you for coming out to practice today."
I was thoroughly impressed with the way Taylor handled the situation. Many players don't interact with the people they are signing for. They step, sign, step, sign. Sean Taylor proved what I've come to realize in my dealings with Brandon Lloyd. Don't believe everything you read. These guys are human, too.
HOLY CRAP! I just got word of this. I think I'm going to throw up. I can't believe this happened to him. Sean is definitely in my thoughts and prayers.
Out of surgery and stabilized according to lunch with skins! I'll let you know as soon as they confirm.
Bram got an email or something and it's weird how bootleg their show is. They were playing the Portis interview and it cut out to them talking and I heard what I posted above.
