But Portis, who was not even on pace for a 1,000 yard season before the Jets game, is now third in the league in rushing. Where did that come from? (Well, maybe the ~200-yard and ~150-yard performances in the past two weeks). I think the fact that our offensive has looked cohesive in the last 3 weeks or so also has something to do with it.

I'm really happy for Portis about this. The guy obviously takes a lot of pride in his job and feels he is one of the best runners in the league. Great to see him bouncing back especially amid a lot of criticism during his injury.

I wish the rest of the team could follow his lead!

I just can't jump on the "The Skins got screwed in the Portis for Bailey trade" bandwagon. Portis wants to be here. Anyone who thought or thinks that Portis doesn't give his all every week isn't paying attention. The man got injured playing defense after a turnover for Christ's sake. I'm not a fan of the costumes but I am a fan of the man wearing them.

I agree wit you G.. that tackle he made after the turnover was one helluva hit as well. CP does go out and give 100%, that's why I really like him here. I'm not saying Champ didn't, but at the time CP was who we really needed.

Chump didn't want to be here. He's over-rated anyway. Chump is not a 'shutdown' corner, although he'd like everyone to think he is.

One thing I have noticed the past couple of Sundays is that Portis looks like he is healthy. The way he is cutting, juking, moving the pile, speed hitting the hole, speed to the outside etc... Also, with the O-line gellin like magellin, he should have no problem with 1,000yd season. One more thing. They are giving him the ball more than just 15-18 times a game! Hopefully, now that defenses have to key in on Portis once again, that will open up some passing lanes for Campbell. I think that is what happened last week.

Yea Cap, but we play the cowpunks this weekend and they have a bunch of fat guys on their dline, that's what worries me. Also, not like he's any good, but that fatazz Tank Johnson is there and he takes up like 2 positions just by himself. I don't really like the stretch play that much, but it may be one way to get some yards rushing the ball. I hope we do alot of play action this game cause teams already know how much we like to run the ball.

I agree, and I think that the passing game got its feet under it for the first time last week because our rushing attack is now viable. You can't give Portis the ball more than 18 times a game when he's getting hit and tackled in the backfield, because you'll never have a drive longer than 3 plays. Now that the line is creating lanes, Portis is beginning to run very well, and this is relieving some pressure from our passing offense, which has responded (or, at least, it did this past week).

lol even though it always confused me that his dad played for dallas....... yet still lived here to raise his son........ who just happened to end up on the skins through free agency.... no matter! Go SHAWN!

A Jet fan in my office said that he noticed the following difference between Portis and his blockers, and the Jets running:

Every time Portis ran, he shifted back and forth behind his blockers, tight behind them, taking advantage of every extra foot they gave him. Portis reads his blockers. Even when Portis was hit at the line, he still gained three yards, and fell down on top of a clump of three Redskin blockers. The Jets runner would try to break between his blockers, and would get knocked flat by three or four Redskin tacklers, with only one blocker in front.

Being that we don't have much to fear (on the surface) from the Skins wideouts, we should be able to keep Roy Williams fairly close to the line of scrimmage and help contain Portis. Tank's presence somewhat fills the Ferguson vacancy, so unless we just get bulldozed we should be able to be effective against the run.

Possible... also possible that McCardell still has the stones to make them pay for that. Your db's don't really scare anyone...
