Just been listening to Doc Walker.....and though he doesn't call Gibbs out...he did say the Redskins play scared. He pointed out the futility and the unimaginative play calling with the jumbo package inside the 5, and the lack of that killer instinct to close games out.
In my view (and it seems to be a consensus) the Redskins suffer from making the same mistakes repeatedly. Many of these mistakes are not physical, nor player related....but are coaching decisions....play calling...clock management....ability to make gametime adjustments, etc.
Of course there are going to be mistakes on the field....penalties....missed assignments, turnovers...these things must be minimized, but it's unrealistic to expect to eliminate them entirely.
What you must do...what you must eliminate are the same mistakes being repeated endlessly by the coaching staff. This staff is losing the players. The players see what we see...what Gibbs and company refuse to see, that if something isn't working, you need to try something else.
The classic example of this (besides the constant clock management and wasting TO issues) is this no WR jumbo set that has become almost a joke when the Skins are inside the 10. How many failures does it take to figure this out? I envision some Japanese fellows in Tokyo (speaking in Japanese of course) saying Oh no, oh no not Jumbo package,...what he thinking?
Doc mentioned something that may be valid, and I've thought about this too. Does Gibbs have so much respect from his staff that they've become yes men, and won't speak freely about coaching decisions? Or are ALL of them clueless, and incapable of recognizing these glaring mistakes and ill conceived calls?
I don't think (after the anger has settled) that Gibbs out to be fired. What I do believe is that this owner should call a meeting, and discuss these things, no holds barred. All the cards on the table. This is the conversation I would have, if I were Danny for a day:
Gentleman, I brought you all together today to discuss the state of the team. Joe, Al, Greg, the four of us are going to figure this thing out. And as much respect as I have for all of you, I must say that there is something terribly wrong here, and it WILL CHANGE, starting right now.
Joe, I've witnessed very poor clock management....4 years now...the same thing. I want a report on my desk by the end of the week why you believe this is, and what you intend to do to fix it. This is an embarrassment to the organization, and I will not tolerate such elementary coaching duties to remain unattended.
Secondly, I perceive this team being being held back with caution and conservative approaches on both sides of the ball. And regardless of injury, or execution issues, I want to see the training wheels not only taken off, but discarded, and never to be seen again. I won't fault any of you for being aggressive , if from time to time it doesn't work, or we miss a big play or allow one for being aggressive. But the moment I see this ball club going into a prevent defense....or the offense sitting on a 3 point lead....your post game comments to the press will also be your opportunity to announce your resignation.
From here on out, I want both the defense and offense to play as though it is in sudden death overtime. Because you are in sudden death overtime. After 4 years, and countless millions of dollars, you are way past time for results.
If anyone has a problem with following these guidelines...feel free to leave now. Otherwise, Gentleman, let's get back to work. This is of course, Dallas week, and I expect every ear pinned, and every eye focussed on one thing.....throwing caution to the wind, and giving the Cowboys a Redskin whupping like they're never had before.
Well meet again next week after the game to discuss the results of our collective efforts.
Meeting adjourned.

Tell that to the Ravens.
The Ravens are 4-4 and are getting beat 21-0 by the Bengals.
Thanks for saving me the typing. And the Bears are 3-5 and are barely beating the Raiders. Chicago likely won't even be back to the playoffs this year.
JSPB22 wrote:welch wrote:How many fumbles did the edskins give to the Eagles?
Did Joe Gibbs fumble any of them?
How many times have experts on this board screamed that Gibbs worries too much about turnovers?
On the last couple of Eagles TD, were they from drives, or were they short passes to Westbrook who then ran 50 yards for a TD?
Did Campbell throw three TD passes today?
At least it makes for a chuckle: when the Redskins run the ball and lose, then Gibbs (Gibbs????) has "choked" and given away the game. When Campbell is sacked and fumbles, then Gibbs (Gibbs????) has choked by taking risks.
At least Redskin fans are predictable.
I've gone through it, and anyone is allowed to read the NFL.com game stats and drive summary.
I agree. This negativity is hard for me to take. It takes much more character to to stand by your team after a loss like this than it does to bash them.
How is a true fan NOT negative about a loss to a division rival with a losing record?!?! Are you "positive" about the loss? How does that make you a better fan than any of us?
JSPB22 wrote:I hurt too, but I'm not calling for everyone's head.
And why not? Our current head coach still doesn't have a winning record, and after 3.5 years has managed to build a team which is, at best, mediocre. So why should he keep his job? Can anyone really offer a good reason that doesn't involved what Gibbs did the first time he was here?

How patient you are. How many more years are you willing to watch your coaching staff make poor decisions?
Why call a timeout 8 seconds before the 2 min warning? Please tell me the rationale for this.
Why try to run from the jumbo package 5, 6 times?
If all you want is a winning team, then I suggest you be a fan of the Patriots. There were plenty of lean seasons before Joe Gibbs I. There are plenty of franchises that have had a lot more disappointment than the Redskins over the years. It's being a fan through those lean years that makes winning that much sweeter. Believe me, I take plenty of flack for my support of the Skins, but that won't ever stop me from supporting the team. That's just how I roll.

I think the point being made here is if this team was going to get better under the toolage of JG, we would've seen some improvement by now, but we're not, and it's my guess we're not going to. We shouldn't have to root for another team if we want to root for a winning team. We should EXPECT the Skins to be a winning team. It's dumb to root for a team and NOT expect them to be the best. That's the whole point of rooting for them.
i dont even know where to begin....the defense was putrid the last 10 minutes...and pretty much bad all day...3rd and 21!!!! 3rd and 14 penalty!!!...the two big plays in the 4th...and THEN GIBBS.....
HIS INABILITY TO BE INNOVATIVE , DARING AND AGGRESIVE HAS TOTALLY ENGULFED THE OFFENSE'S MINDSET......THEY HAVE NO KILLER INSTINCT...NOTHING!!!
AND HE WANTS IT THAT WAY......Gibbs has won 10 of last 26 games!!!!!
all 26 he put on defenses shoulders.......so how his that working????
question???
does anyone remember that playaction back in 2005....Sellers every week was wide open and saunders has taken in out of the playbook(i say that because i havent seen it in the last 20 games or so)...
im tired , im angered im frustrated and I have feelings that are so viceral now...I hate that have to feel this way about gibbs....but its happened
Joe gibbs II ladies and gentleman has brought back the NORV TURNER YEARS...dont argue it dont deny it just accept it and deal with it any way you can.....im hurt by this team....ive sacrificed family parties , birthdays..IVE GIVEN THEM EVERYTHING I HAVE....and in th end we are now approaching 16 years of futility all the while Parcells has built an excellent team in Dallas and Wade phillips is doing his best Joe Torre impersonation......4 years of Gibbs and in our 4th year...were still 0-2 in the division at home lost 52-7(and it felt worse than that) to best AFC has to offer ..and more importantly under Gibbs reign in his 4th year, The fan base is miserable and Dallas has emerged as the class of THE NFC...ALL ON HIS WATCH..........
I dred next week its going further the embarassment and flame the anger towards Gibbs ....WE ALL KNOW IT...
Romo will be slinging it all over the field like some 13 year old in flag football game and there we will be running 3 te's same 3 plays we always run Lorenzo Alexander will get another 10 snaps on Offense , we will burn timeouts inside the opp 35 , We will take bad penalties ....and we will lose and lose badly
OUR FRANCHISE has some sould searching to From Snyder (is it possible that Gibbs has been so bad that Snyder has gained sympathy??wow) to gibbs to williams to the ball boys......This is a critically low point for us and Dllas is going to make it worse...what fun is this I ask??? its not
Its miserable!..Its just a miserbale experience watching this team...when will it end??....Guys hug your wife tonight Your kids Your Girlfriends , tell your dad you love him....those are the things that matter in life ...not this team ..08 will only get worse from here(Dallas in SB) ..SO DETACH YOURSELF NOW and experience your families on sundays ......bring joy back into your life.....God knows im completely devoid of it on Sundays---CHURCH HERE I COME! Im taking my wife to Movie and dinner next sunday ...and I gurantee you I will be a better man for it.....Because Gibbs doesnt deserve my time anymore....SADLY

Of course you want them to win, who doesn't. Losing hurts. George Allen said every time you lose a peice of you dies. Still you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. You have to agree that this team is not whole right now. Losing ST today put a fork in the defense. It is only because Joe set the bar so high in his first tenure, that we feel so disappointed now. It could be worse, you could be a Philladelphia fan, and have never had your team win it all.

It's just so hard to stay positive. Every year we lose 2-3 games like this and I can only remember 1 time we won a game like this (2 years ago on MNF in Dallas) in the last decade. It's just unbelievable and it leaves my sick to my stomach.
There isn't a person who has followed this team over the last decade that didn't know the Eagles were going to score a TD after we kicked that FG to go up 25-20. Why? Because the absolute worst always happens to us.
That's the 3rd game we have lost that we lead going into the 4th quarter. It's so hard to root for this team. I officially have given up any hopes of this team making the postseason. Too many injuries and absolutely no killer instinct whatsoever.
I'll still watch and root every week though.

I have been one of the biggest Gibbs defenders, but this crosses the line. He has got to go.
His 2 point conv. attempt in the 2nd qtr with a 5 pt lead was ridiculous. If there was 2 minutes to go in the 4th then yes you go for 2, but not early in the 2nd.
Going for it on 4th & 13 with 2 1/2 minutes to go and time outs left? What? That's insane.
I just got home and haven't read the board so I'm sure this has already been covered ad nauseum.
This sucks. Dallas is gonna kill us. I've never said that before in my 35+ years of being a Redskins fan.

Yes I know, but this disappointment now is because he set the bar so high during his first tenure. Had there been no Joe Gibbs I, we would be no different from, say... Seattle.

i hate to stay positive, especially after this debacle... BUT... as far as the playoff picture looks, we are a game behind both the lions and giants... and a full game ahead of all other wild card teams. now, even with a loss to dallas, which will probably happen, the MOST we can be out of playoff contention will be 1 game because the giants and lions play each other next week. so, at the end of next week, 6-4 WILL be in the playoffs. even if we lose, we will be 5-5. if we win, we are in the playoffs.
