Dan Snyder weighs in on "Lions For Lambs"

Post by GSPODS »

Even though conservative pundits are piling on, Washington Redskins owner and voluble Republican Dan Snyder calls "Lions for Lambs" "pro-American. It asks questions that not only deserve to be asked, but heard. That's more American than anything I can think of."

Before I read this article, is it going to contain spoiler information? I know nothing about this movie yet.

Unfortunately, the article does give away some of the plot. I don't know exactly how much it gives away because I haven't seen this film yet, either. I was hoping someone could tell me if it's worth seeing.

It's only doing 28% on Rotten Tomatoes and that usually isn't a good sign.

Fios, arbiter of all knowledge. (Borrowed from CLL)
Oh, that papal infalibility thing is pretty cool, too.

From the article, it sounds like conservatives are claiming the film has a liberal slant but Dan Snyder is a conservative Republican and he seems to think the film addresses the issues fairly.

That 28% is almost as low as Bush's approval rating.
It does make me question whether or not this is worth $12.00.

I think today's (Nov.9) is it's release date.

I wonder how much his man crush on that bipolar midget, Cruise, has affected his judgement. Does he, perhaps, own a piece of the film?

This answers my question, I think:

Boston Globe
Wesley Morris "Political drama feels more like a lecture." more... C
Chicago Sun-Times
Roger Ebert "The movie is a talkathon with a certain amount of military action." more... B-
Chicago Tribune
Matt Pais "...a story about how some politicians and journalists can't be completely trusted should be filed away in the 'duh' category." more... C
E! Online
Chris Farnsworth "Good performances from Redford, Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise are wasted in what's basically a dorm-room debate with a couple of action scenes." more... D+
Entertainment Weekly
Owen Gleiberman "...Carnahan's writing ignites familiar issues with vigor and snap..." more... B
filmcritic.com
Sean O'Connell "The sentiments expressed should trigger discussions, but they don't add up to an interesting movie." more... C-
Hollywood Reporter
Ray Bennett "An honest but a bit dry attempt at a serious discussion on the merits of current U.S. military strategies." more... B
Los Angeles Times
Carina Chocano "...looks like a stage play and plays like a policy debate." more... C
New York Post
Kyle Smith "...if you want to be bored by pompous-assery, Meet the Press is free." more... C-
New York Times
Manohla Dargis "It tells us everything most of us know already, including the fact that politicians lie, journalists fail and youth flounders." more... C
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
William Arnold "...resting on a talky, disjointed and not-very-well-thought-out script." more... B-
USA Today
Claudia Puig "Though characters make some strong points, the film feels preachy and falls flat as entertainment." more... C+

Dan Snyder is as far removed from being a "Left Winger" as a person can get.

Factually Bush is in the 30s. I think you meant it's almost as low as Congress, which is in the low 20s. Personally what any one who would approve of either is thinking is lost on me. Or maybe that's the problem....

In terms of Iraq, I don't think it's time to make any war movie with a point because the sides are too entrenched and too nuts to explore other views or ask obvious questions, like why it's government's job to control oil prices in the first place as is advocated by both sides. They just have some minor policy disagreements they try to portray as being radically different.

Our house is NOTHING like theirs, the laundry room is a different shade of white. They are the DEVIL for painting their laundry room egg shell, it should be ivory! The devil they are, the devil!
