Reggie Bush:Bust or just a off season?

Talk about the AFC, NFC, the NFL Draft, College Football... anything football that has no Washington Football Team relevance.

Reggie Bush:Bust or just a off season?

Post by Bishop Hammer »

Does anyone think Bush is a bust or does anyone think he will rebound next season and be a prominent running back in the NFL?

The Saints started slow this season (0-4), but have really picked it up since (4-0). I think Bush's numbers have followed the team's. He may have a productive year yet. So, none of the above.

The guy's only halfway into his second season, and people want to talk about bust? It's not like he was terrible last year either. I don't know if he can be the 'feature' RB on a team, but he needs to be used correctly, like a Brian Westbrook type.

I choose "Neither".

Bush, during the first four games was averaging 37 rushing yards per game at 2.9 yards per carry. The last 4 games (all wins), he's been averaging 72 yards per game at 4.6 yards per carry and has become a threat (again) in the passing game with a couple of td catches over that stretch.

Reggie Bush was definitely overhyped, but he's not a bust. He's just not an every-down running back.
Cowboys 7- Redskins 6 (All we needed was 2 minutes of the 60)
Cowboys 17 - Redskins 0 (Way to NOT show up for the 100th anniversary)

Yeah, but unfortunately he was the 2nd pick in the NFL draft. For a RB you pick that high, he's got to be a game breaker.

His career ypc is 3.7. 3.6 last year, 3.8 this year.

That's awful for a running back.

I voted Bust only because the guy was so hyped coming out of college, and he's been "okay". But really, it's too early to determine if he's a bust. But he's certainly not lived up to expectations imho.

And comparing him to Westbrook? He's no Bryan Westbrook, who has a career ypc average of 4.7 (a full yard higher, and he's never had a year below 4.0 ypc).

I think he was drafted to be an offensive weapon. His numbers definitely aren't Westbook's, but he did lead the Saints in catches in his rookie season and has been very involved during their recent surge. Right now, Reggie doesn't let the game come to him. He tries to turn every dive play or pass to the flat into a 75 yard touchdown. He's coming along, but it may be some time. In 24 games, he's tallied more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and has scored 14 touchdowns. He's not anywhere close to being a bust.
