Lloyd Stays In Team's Plans

Post by ike075 »

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 01975.html

While we all have no real clue what the tension is between Lloyd and the coaches, the one thing I have seen that makes me wonder is teamates that have been pulling for him. Like a couple of weeks ago when he had his first catch and it seemed like for some players his first catch was a bigger deal then the game.

This is really nothing new.....regardless if this is exactly the truth or some flavor of it, the coaches aren't going to come out and say, "That Lloyd's a waste of air and we're going to punish him!" regardless of what happens. That's not Gibbs' way. The coming weeks will show what the real agenda is and everyting else is just speculation.
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I hope we at least give Lloyd a shot. He has caught most of the passes thrown his way.

I think they should have a set late in the Eagles game, when we're up by a bunch and the game is out of hand, and just throw to Lloyd every play. Every single play is a pass to Lloyd. Just like they did when Monk broke the career receptions mark. See how he does. Give him an ultimatum. He catches 75%, he stays. Less than that, he's gone.

I like it. Obviously, Lloyd has no trade value so he is either valuable to the Redskins or he is more dead cap.

I say we should at least throw to him 5 times. I like the idea though.

"We have a big investment in Brandon," Gibbs said. "We've given him opportunities to be productive. We've got to get it done."

That's a quote from the 'Inside Slant' thread. I'm a bit surprised to hear Gibbs say that they've given him opportunities to be productive, given how little they've thrown to him this year.

Exactly. While the coaches may be (and probably are) thinking the guy has 8 regular season games left in a Redskin jersey barring a miracle, how can they say anything else unless they're cutting the guy this week?

I agree. That is nothing more than Gibbs trying not to say anything bad in front of the media.

I was glad to here this at the end of the article.

"Because of an inordinately high number of hamstring injuries, the Redskins have made changes in their approach in the weight room and pregame stretching exercises, Gibbs said. "

Saving a prodigious MIRACLE, Lloyd is gone by the end of the season. Ah! Let me clarify the word MIRACLE in some terms we might agree or disagree on:

1) He EARNS his starter spot back with astonishing performances from now on; and

2) He undergoes a PERSONALITY transformation to be more of a TEAM player; and

3) He "REDEEMS" himself (if you know what I mean O:) ).

It -MIGHT- happen but it would be a triple -MIRACLE-.
Daniel Snyder has defined incompetence, failure and greed to true Washington Redskins fans for over a decade and a half. Stay away from football operations !!!

Also from that thread:
"Brandon and I talked things over and we'll go back to work on Wednesday," coach Joe Gibbs said. "That was a disappointing situation. We're going to deal with it and go on. I hope that will never happen again."

Pure coach speak. My 2 cents

I'm sure Brandon would love ANY game plan that involved him more than once in a game.

... but will it happen?

On the bright side, maybe missing a meeting will be the catalyst needed for the team and Lloyd to try and put away their petty doghouse act and get on with trying to win some football games. How ironic that would be considering that missing a team meeting would actually be his only real 'transgression' of substance and something that SHOULD be reprimanded.

Then again, it might just be the excuse the staff needed, to continue doing what they were doing all along... and any commentary thereafter is nothing more than lip service.

The proof is in the pudding. I'm personally sick of hearing tired lines like, "We're going to deal with it and move on."

It hasn't been 'dealt' with properly yet, and nobody's moved on from anything...

The Redskins idea of dealing with it seems to mean, to throw it away the following year and keep paying for it...

Did anybody see Buges on NBC last night? George Michaels just completely trashed Lloyd on the show. Basically said he should give a million to some Redskins charity because he hasn't done a single thing to earn that money, and that he's a weasel if he kept it.

It was pretty tough, and Buges just sat there and laughed the whole time. Didn't say a word in Lloyd's defense.

Not saying there is anything wrong with it. Just saying I think he would have defended Lloyd a little bit if they expected to see him playing anytime soon.

I want to see just a few more downfield shots to Lloyd this year. Campbell's deep passes have been so close to completions, and we need the WRs down the field that can bring them in.

Never ceases to amaze me the loyalty peeps on this board have to Lloyd. He's done nothing. Zilch. Nada. It's laughable to blame any of this on the coaches or Jason or the gameplan. Their legacies and paychecks are on the line. You think they're playing childish games? They're worried about winning games and paying for their kids college educations. They're worried about 90K fans booing. The fact that Lloyd is still on the team and AA is gone is proof that they really, truly believed in Lloyd when push came to shove and they had the option to cut him in the offseason - to heck with the Cap - the Skins always find a money work around. They decided he was worth keeping. Now they know they should've cut him in the offseason and traded for a legit reciever. Instead, they're stuck with a wasted roster spot for 8 more weeks.

Every year since Gibbs return, there seems to be some kind of dessention between the coaches and a player. What gives? Continued dessention like this cannot be good for the team with the players wondering if it is their turn next year.

I think this CURRENT staff's CURRENT track record when it comes to judging receivers is pretty dismal so I'm disinclined to say this is all Lloyd. (The capitalized text is so people read what I am saying.) What is laughable is to say "you are all dumb, it's 100% Lloyd" when, frankly, none of us have any idea what the why behind this all actually is. What this goes to, what this screams for, more than anything, is a GM.

:hmm:
Not sure sure what the applause are for considering how far off that post is.
Sure Lloyd has done nothing, he hasn't been given a real chance. You can say it's not "the coaches or Jason or the gameplan" but look at the rest of the WRs. After Moss and ARE they have close to no production. Betts has more catches than Thrash, McCardell and Caldwell combined. Cooley has half as many receptions as our top 2 wideouts combined total. Even Yoder has more catches than the team #3,#4,#5 and #6 receivers, none of that is on Brandon when he's not getting on the field.
As far as who's playing games and who isn't,
The Redskins WRs have not been producing, yet Lloyd isn't given more opportunities and he's not the only one. When your average yards per attempt is only 6.7 yards you don't really have a use for a wideout do you?
Maybe the Skins should show some loyalty to us and take some shots down field like they keep saying theey are going to do.

The applause goes like this: Fan X doesn't like Lloyd = Lloyd is definitely a bust and no other factors whatsoever could have contributed to that. Conversely, if I say "well, this has not been the most stable situation and pretty much none of the wideouts have been impressive," I am blinded by my loyalty to Lloyd, therefore, I am dumb.
