Would anyone say the Lions team the Redskins played, the one missing two starting wide receivers, is the same caliber of team as Dallas?

There are many Redskins fans I've known who, no matter what season you're talking about, are always defeatist when it comes to Dallas. It's been that way for 35 years. Even when we beat them they say we got away with one or we were just on a roll that day.

By the way, are you talking about the same Lions team that went in to Dallas and beat them at the end of last season even though they were playing for nothing while Dallas badly needed the win?

OK you win. Dallas will beat us 18 of the next 20 and the other 2 will be flukes. Lets just go jump in the Potomac.

The Eagles managed to score more points in one game than the Redskins have scored in three games this season. Talk of being a playoff contender is not only a stretch, it's beyond reality. This team is going nowhere fast. Yet there is discussion of defeating Dallas twice, which is unrealistic based upon every Redskins game to date this season. This team will be fortunate to finish the season with a .500 record.

Are you watching the same games as the rest of us. What have you seen this season from the Skins that makes you think they are anything other than mediocre? We had to go to overtime to beat the 2 worst teams in the NFL. We gave away a game to the Giants. Got embarrassed by the Patriots. Tried our hardest to give away the Cardinals game and almost blew the Philly game. We have a pathetic offense and a defense, that while much better than last season, can't get pressure on the qb without blitzing. We have the worst time/clock management in the NFL. Sounds like a Super Bowl contender to me

Maybe the fact that we've won 5 games would be one reason. Does that mean I think we should be favored to win the division? Of course not. But to say we should just give it up as you clearly believe is defeatist at best. If I had that outlook I would have given up watching sports years ago. Still, if fatalistic fortune-telling is what you're into have...uh...fun.

Why are we even talking about the playoffs? I'm sure I'm in the minority on this, but who really cares about the playoffs this season? I sure as hell don't. The only thing that we would prove by reaching the playoffs is how pathetic the NFC is. I mean even the biggest homers on this site can't honestly look at the Skins and think that we are a good team. The only thing I care about seeing from this team is improvement. I would rather lose most of our remaining games if the team is improving, than win most of our games playing the way that we are right now. What bothers me the most about this season is that we really haven't improved as the season has gone on. In fact, while our offense is still as inept as it was, our defense actually seems to be getting worse. This game was eerily similar to the Dolphins game. Our passing game is still non-existent, our running game (despite today's performance against one of the worst defenses in the NFL) still isn't where it should be, we still have the worst clock management in the NFL, and we still are unable to generate pressure without blitzing. With the way we started this season I expected marked improvement as the season went on, but that hasn't happened. I'm not sure if this is a result of a lack of talent or bad coaching (I suspect both) but something needs to be done to get this team moving in the right direction because right now we are stuck in the mud as a mediocre (at best) NFL team.

When you were seeing all of these things did you realize that we were playing the second worst team in the NFL, with arguably the NFL's worst defense, that was without it's best player?

I'm concerned with improvement and development too. Never said I wasn't. Still, wins and losses are the bottom line and I'm gonna enjoy the wins, while wishing for improvement. Wrong question. It implies that nothing else changed, or that all changes were under Redskins control.

- Jansen and Thomas out for the season. Rabach playing but was hurt at GB

- Backups to Jansen and Thomas hurt, and their backup (Heyer) also hurt. Wade and Fabini play anyway.

- Mediocre OL kills an offense. I've never seen an offense with a poor OL that could win. Example: mid-60's Redskins, with an offense consiting of Jurgensen throwing to Taylor, Mitchell, and Smith. Mind-boggling talent: three Hall of Famers, plus one in my personal Redskin HoF.

- Current WR's don't seem able to get clear. Watching, I saw two guys deep on almost all the passes, and often saw Campbell throw short to Sellers (for instance) because WR's were not open.

- Also saw Campbell underthrow Thrash deep in the endzone, and overthrow somebody else.

- Campbell is getting better -- bad interception...threw as he was being hit. Still not quite as good as Rypien's earliest years. Learning.

- Defense is mostly OK. Losing Rogers hurt, in spite of how much people joked about him. No depth in DB.

- I see five wins, which is the most important thing.

- Today, I saw the Redskins come from behind to win.

- Most amusing thing, aside from the on-side kick, was the play of Lorenzo Alexander at TE. He's a DT. If the right side OL is hurt, then go to the old Jumbo package. I've never seen it done for such long stretches of a game, but maybe Gibbs/Saunders have found something. Gained 290 yards rushing.

- Conclusion: I see the team has taken injuries, and has begun to work through them. I still wish someone like Art Monk was playing WR, but wishes..wishes.

I love that we win, but I want to see improvement. I dont need 50+ yrd TDs or a sack or INT on D every time. But what about 2 first downs back to back, or where we score FGs in the 3rd and 4th but have scored 3-4 TDs in the 1st and 2nd...Some tackling... NO DUMB PENALTIES FROM the LEADERS Fletch, Taylor and Samuels...

JC I love ya but you are starting to lose that touch you had in the first few weeks...Still love and would not want anyone else but you...

The throw to Thrash looked right on to me. He should've made that catch. In his defense though, he isn't the one that should have been running that pattern.

I see five wins, which is the most important thing.

Ultimately, we've just got to be thankful for that, and go forward. 5 wins is all we had last year, and we've already equaled that at the halfway point. That's definitely a positive sign. Sure, we haven't looked all that pretty, two of the worst teams in the league have taken us to overtime, and we've only won one game by more than a score. This team certainly isn't a Super Bowl contender, but at least we're better than we were, which is a start.

Myself I will take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day! I understand the rest of your post and agree with some of it, but please, if you would rather see the team lose looking good than see them win looking bad there is something seriously wrong with that value system.

Just look at today. The running game jelled a little and carried the team when the passing game was not hitting on all 8. If we can keep improving maybe when Randy gets back we will be ready to take on the big dogs.

Lets just say we continue to struggle, but still make it into the playoffs, what is so bad with getting our young QB some playoff experience?

I understand that a lot of people here are never happy and just like bagging on the team. We could have any record from 1-7 to 7-1, but we are 5-3. I don't think GB is that much better, if at all, than us but they are 7-1. They could have any number of records, but they are 7-1. The Lions are 6-2 and we beat them (should beat the Pack too). When it all comes down to it, you are what your record is. The NFL is a result base organization! Only thing that counts is the W/L record.

I never said I didn't care about getting wins. My point is, that in a season in which we have absolutely no chance of winning the Super Bowl, the improvement, growth, and progression of the team is more important than wins and losses. Sure continuing to struggle and still making the playoffs would be nice, but if we continue to play this poorly all season, what does it say about our chances of being a successful team next season? Yes we have injuries. But so does everybody else. We almost lost to a Jets team that was without their best offensive and defensive players. The overall point of my post was that we haven't really progressed or improved as a team and I am very concerned about that. Welch pointed to our injuries, and while they have hurt, we can't expect to go through an entire NFL season without injuries. The coaches should have this team improving, but this team is the same (or worse) than it was at the beginning of the season.
