Brandon Martin-Div 1-AA interception leader/db of the eyar

Post by katzter »

hey!!!!!!!!!!!

i want everyone to look this player up on the Butler Bulldogs website for the past year. was voted Don Hansen's defensive back of the year, All-America first team selection, broke Butler's 23 yr record by two for interceptions, and led the NCAA Div 1-AA in interceptions. Walt CHerpinsky is the only man out there on the draft sites that even mentions this kid, and has him picked as #5 safety in the nation overall. he runs a consistent 4.5 and best time is a 4.32 in the 40..thats better than most: 82 total and 71 solo tackles on the year..should have been up for the Butkus Award..Jerry Rice also came from a little known school, and Brandon also scrimmaged for the Indianapolis Colts this past week at their invite. Ron Meek's, defensive coordinator for the Colts, said Martin was "outstanding" on coverage. He was up against Artez Battle of Purdue, whom hedefended soundly, and John Southerlin of Notre Dame, whom he aslo covered impressively. Anyone else out there ever heardof Martin?? give him a look!!!! let me know what you think...thanks!! #2's Dawg fan

If you're gonna go after a I-AA player, I don't think DB is the way to go for the Skins. I would much rather them take a very seriously look at DE Shawn Johnson out of the University of Delaware.

This guy clearly played like a man among boys and I, for one, expect a lot from him in the NFL...notwithstanding the fact that he may be a little smaller than some other DEs out there.

The guy is certainly worth a look in the lower rounds.

The knock on Dwight Freeney was that he was too small too and look what he's done in Indy. Johnson (6-5, 275) is bigger than Freeney (6-1, 268) so it's possible that size won't affect him too much. If he truly played like a man among boys (I didn't see him play but I'll take your word for it) then he should definitely be worth a look in the 5th and 6th rounds.

hey ok guys,
brandon martin may not be a pick for the redskins, but thanks for your input..as for the ncaa div 1-aa champs, theystill didnt have the ddefensive back of the year, aka mr ncaa div 1-aa interception leader on the team..wish they would have had..you have to handit to martin that while playing for a team that had a less than stellar season, he still managed the stats he had with the little he had to work with..the butler bulldogs had gone thru quite a few transitions while he was there. but to his credit, he never gave up, never hung his head in defeat and played with the men, as you put it..he has recently scrimmaged with quite a few div 1-a players(receivers) who got the ball either batted down or intercepted away from them..just look him up on the site..he is quite a player..it makes me wonder what he could have accomplished in stats if he would have had the opportunity to play for a big ten school or div 1-a school. he was given the opportunity to transfer to southern illinois or ball state along with several other schools his sophomore yr, but decided his loyalty was to the butler bulldogs. i guess we'll see if he made a good decision..keep him in your mind, i'm sure you'll here more..good luck to the redskins and all the fans during the draft.. martin hates to loose , i can tell you that much!!! thats a good thing for a football player:):) thanks for your replies...underdawg

Taking a player like Martin laterin the draft is not a bad thing to do many good NFL players come from small schools. If He is there for the Skins 5th or 6th pick maybe it would be worth the chance, but I have seen Shawn Johnson play and I agree with Justice Hog that He was a man among boys. 6'5" 275 is not small for a DE and He could add weight if He needed it.
