Hognostications TRAITORS or misunderstood souls?

Post by Redskin in Canada »

Redskins "fans" who pick against the Redskins in the Hognostications have been called TRAITORS but they argue that they really are falsely accused and misunderstood souls who just wish to win the competition.

Let the THN Board members decide.

Enjoy.

Well, the traitors will say different, but I'll let my hognostication record stand for itself. As far as career hognostications go, only you, RiC, have bested my totals, and you have also never picked against the Skins. Coincidence? I think not. I even gave up the coveted perfecto last season, on a week that I knew (I tell you I'm psychic about these things) the Redskins would lose to the G-strings, so as not to pick against my beloved Redskins. I took the 5-11 season hognostication handicap in stride, and still made it to the playoffs. Oh the hognostitraitors will ask, "Why pick them if you know they are going to lose?" To which I answer, "I would rather die with them, than win by picking against them." There is such a thing as loyalty people!

No doubt about it. They are TRAITORS. I don't buy into the "I hognosticate with my head and not with my heart to win the competition". True fans will stick with their team no matter how "bleak" the outlook is for a Redskins win. The team needs us to believe in them and part of that is picking them to win every week. I believe in the "any given Sunday" rule and I also believe we have a chance to beat the patriots. I want to spoil the Patriots, Colts, all of their fans and the media's "matchup of the unbeatens". Time for the Redskins to give one back to all of the people that don't believe they can win this game!!!!!!!!

But, but, but, but they're just trying to win Fios. They want to win the pool. They are better than you for not letting their heart get in the way.

Funny how the traitors never take home the Hognostications belt...

Karma.

I know we had this very same conversation last year but, in my eyes, it does make you less of a fan. You are hoping, on some level, that the team you root for loses because it validates the pick. Now, people can get up-in-arms and say "I'm still going to root for them, I still love them" blah blah blah but all that means is the traitors mostly want the Redskins to win. In this context, a loss is beneficial to them. And what I find truly sad about this is that there is NOTHING involved except bragging rights. This is the least understandable forum in which to pick against the Redskins. If money were involved I would actually consider that a mitigating factor. But since you get not even a single dime for this, picking against the Redskins is inexcusable.

I couldn't even start any players that play against the Redskins in my fantasy football league. Not one. It's bad enough I have to have Jason Witten on my team. Ugh!

I have no idea how people pick the Redskins to lose in a pool--especially on a week like this!!

I just think that its never right to pick against your team, even if they are the worst team in a league... unless of course you are by nature a quitter... I wouldn't want you on my team! It just says you have no faith or confidence in your team. Well, then, why are they your team?

For shame..... [-X

They try to justify picking against "their" team so they can win the competition
in the end. But tis much sweeter to win when you have remained loyal to your team.

This I speak from experience.

You may have been a committed Redskin fan prior to making your picks but you didn't commit to them this week. In other words you can't say you're fully committed to the Redskins, it's nothing wrong with being committed to trying to win with your selections but you can't have it both ways.

Are you fully committed to the skins? If you pick against them then I'd say the answer is no.

I'd like to take a moment and give my My 2 cents in the whole matter of picking the skins every week on hognostications.

While some may dismiss it as being a "blind faith" kind of thing or not being realistic, I see it differently.

My views of it are quite simple. It's a matter of principle. I have given my allegiance to the skins for over several decades. I am willing to sink or swim with them....I have their back, so to speak. It's a matter of principle. If I tell you that I got your back, then brother you better believe, I got your back. No matter who we go against, I got your back. This you can bank on.

I do think there are different levels of appreciation/loyalty/fanaticism.

Now, I'm not blind to think that the skins are prefect, never have. I have always been cognitive of the skins weaknesses. But, every week, I expect the skins to go out and make me proud!

It's not simply saying we will win. I honestly believe, we WILL win.

More power to you. If you really think the Redskins are going to win, then you should pick them. And I can't express how much I hope you guys are right. Seriously. I really, really hope you guys are serving me up a big old plate of crow me come Monday. Nothing would taste so sweet.

Just out of curiosity - are there any of our fans out there who picked the Redskins to win, but don't really believe that? Redskins in Canada, JSPB22, FIOS, 1niksder - for the sake of argument, be honest. If your life depended on it (or your life savings, if that helps) - who would you pick to win on Sunday?

I always pick the Redskins to win, I always believe they have a chance to win. Has nothing to do with that any given Sunday crap either. I look at the match ups and see what the possibilities are and go from there. This weekend will be a test for them but I really didn't look far to see reasons to think the Redskins can win this game.

The O-line might be a little banged up, but they're rested and say they are ready to go.
They play to the level of their opponent, but they play conservative right. The Lions were expected to run away from the Skins with their big receivers and wide open offense, the Skins came in prepared to match them while depending on the D to hold them to as few as possible. What happen there? You can say it was just Detroit, but what was Detroit portrayed to be before kickoff?

Williams hasn't blitzed in a month... Marcus Washington missed most of that time... Everyone is afraid to blitz Brady, guess what's gonna happen on Sunday.

Moss can out jump any receiver in the NFL is something I keep hearing, so can Sean Taylor - what's the big deal?

There are games I have to force myself to believe in the Redskins, for some reason I've been waiting on this since Monday night.

We have argued in this board that the overwhelming evidence ON PAPER favours the Patriots. But we have also established that this Team plays with a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality. I have described several reasons why I am Hognosticating a WIN in the Week 8 Hognostications thread. Let us be clear: The Skins can beat the Pats and I EXPECT them to do so.

But there is a further argument that I must be honest to confess. I have not made it in public before and I perhaps should have:

I question the logic of those Redskin fan posters who come here, take advantage of what it is offered, and do not reciprocate with a minimum amount of SPORTSMANSHIP (perhaps even also loyalty and solidarity) to the Team and other fellow fans, particularly the young ones who are learning.

I do understand that some of my posts get deep under the skin of some others, particularly those who acting against the spirit of SPORTSMANSHIP come to a board financed by a single Redskin fan, visited by thousands of Redskins fans, supported by Redskins fans who volunteer their work for the benefit of other Redskins fans, and pick against their team in a meaningless bragging rights contest of wits and luck.

Nobody, certainly not me, compels anybody to participate in the Hognostications. Anybody is more than free to participate or ignore the threads and the Tournament altogether. But if any Redskins fans choose to participate, it is then not too much to ask to do so with a sense of SPORTSMANSHIP that brings us here as a point of contact in the first place. If, on the other hand, anybody decides to pick against the Skins, they have been called for doing so. It is a free world not the end of it after all.

This thread is about SPORTSMANSHIP and sharing a Skins fan site with Washington Redskins fans equally passionate about their team.

Ah! and YES! I EXPECT the Skins to win on Sunday. Hail to the Redskins!

First, I have no savings, despite the fact that my father is a financial planner, I have a piss poor approach to such things. :)
Secondly, like 1nik, having looked at the match-ups, yes, I think the Redskins can win on Sunday. I do not gamble on the Redskins because, as superstitious as it might be, I think it's bad luck when I do it. I'd obviously never bet against them but I simply don't wager on their games as a rule.
Third, it would be dishonest of me to say that I believe the Redskins are absolutely going to win every week but, to me, that's separate from the point here. I obviously do not expect for them to go 19-0 every season for eternity. But there is an unwritten fan creed and one of the tenets of that creed is that you simply do not pick against your team. Ever. There isn't any gray area, there isn't any flexibility, it is a maxim of the sports fans' world. Like Hoss said, for me this is a question of loyalty and loyalty isn't convenient.
To be clear, I recognize the relative importance of sports in the universe at-large, I know where things ranks on the scale of Things Which Are Important. But that very thing is what makes picking against the Redskins in this venue so particularly egregious. This is is a contest that, if you win it, entails nothing more than a change to the text near your avatar. I am certain people are tired of me making this point but, when you pick against the Redskins, if they lose, you gain an advantage in this contest. So, some part of you, however infinitesimal, wants the team to lose because you gain, as a result.
Ultimately, I can not envisage a venue in which picking against the Redskins is more pathetic.

I agree, RiC. Trying to get a leg up in Hognostications by picking against the Skins, deserves a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. That penalty is derision from the other fans here. But to answer your question, SSIII, I would have to bet based on the particular game. Right now my feeling is that we will win this game. It may go against logic, but that is not how my psychic abilities work. It is more of a sensory thing. But since we are not betting our lives, or our life savings here, but instead only bragging rights, I see no logical reason to pick against the Redskins ever in hognostications. Why can't the hognostitraitors wrap their minds around that concept?

Well, that was a lot of tap-dancing. 1niksder sees no reason why they can't win, Redskins in Canada expects them to win, Fios thinks they can win.

Kudos to JSPB22 for the straight answer. Although I forgot you were psychic, so you have an unfair advantage.

Because some people think it's silly to change their true predictions based on the color jersey they wear. I understand why you guys feel like you do, I just think it's pretty lame.

But what bugs me, and the reason I inserted myself into this in the first place, is how you guys go about dealing with people who see things differently. You're bullies. I know - if people don't like how they are being treated, they don't have to play, or don't have to pick against the Redskins. But that's just the same as the playground bully saying if kids don't want to get beat up, they don't have to use the slide.
