Guys, I need help from you tech gurus out there.
I have a linksys WRT54G wireless router. It has the latest firmware version on it. Here is the thing. When I have my lap top and xbox360 wired into the router i am at about 1.5-3 Megs. When I hook up my laptop directly to my cable modem i am at 11 megs. This slow down doesn't always happen when i have them both hardlined into the router, sometimes with them directly connect to the router (not using the wireless) i will get my 11 Megs but for the most part there is always a significant slowdown. can anyone tell me why? Linksys says i need the latest firmware, I have that. even if that was the case, it would explain why it happens periodically would it? I am pretty sure i have everything set right because it worked fin for a week, got bad, and then got good and now it's bad again. just to repeat this happens when everything is wired into the router, wireless cause then i could understand the reduction in speed.
I am about to go buy another brand and see what happens. has this happened to anyone else?

Do you have any other 802.11 devices connected to or near the Linksys router? Wireless or Cell Phone? Wireless keyboard or mouse?

Nope none at all... my cordelss phone is a floor above.
i thought of that and thanks for the suggestion. but how can it be slower hardlined in? it's crazy. maybe it's as simple as a faulty router.

Try this link. You may want to upgrade from Wireless G.
Low or poor signal is mainly caused by four major factors:
Distance
Obstructions
Interferences
Transmit Rate on the Access Point and/or the Wireless Adapter Not Set to Auto
Distance-Related Problems:
Keep in mind that wireless devices have limitations when it comes to their range. For devices running on 2.4 GHz, the range can go up to 100-150 feet. If your wireless network is too far from its range, consider relocating the devices. One important thing to remember is that distance is directly proportional to signal strength. The farther you are from the Access Point, the lower the signal. To check if you’re getting a stable connection, perform a continuous ping. If you’re getting replies most of the time, this means the connection is stable. If it times out majority of the time, the connection is not that stable. For instructions, click here.
NOTE: If you’re using an SRX and/or SRX400 device, the range is 3x that of Wireless-G. If they are using SRX200 devices, the wireless range is 2x that of Wireless-G. If the customer, on the other hand, is using a Wireless-N device, the wireless range is 4x compared to Wireless-G.

Guys didn't solve the problem but I spoke to a guy in circuit city and he asked me how old the router was. I told him 2 weeks. He said to not bother problem solving it and just get another one. Took that advice and I'm good to go with PODS favorite game Halo 3...

Guys didn't solve the problem but I spoke to a guy in circuit city and he asked me how old the router was. I told him 2 weeks. He said to not bother problem solving it and just get another one. Took that advice and I'm good to go with PODS favorite game Halo 3...
