Spring cleaning

Post by njskinsfan »

My wife put me to work today and I was amazed at all the Redskins clothes I have. I was putting away the winter clothes and bringing in the short sleeves and I counted 10 Redskins shirts, 6 sweatshirts, 4 sweatpants and two pairs of socks and put away 3 coats..... I won't even get to my hats (being folically impaired  ). Thank god my B-Day and X-mas are a long ways off.

Does anyone have one of those relatives that gives you Redskins stuff for every present?????

Why don't they think of tickets instead !!!!! I'd settle for upper deck.

Or at least real memorabilia... you know - real collectibles :)

I am painting my way to my computer room and we are going to redo it as a "Skins room" with the color scheme and all - gonna have shelves with some collectibles, though not anywhere near as many as some of you folks have...

Sometimes, I just don't see the value in paying 12.00 plus shipping for a hat pin ::grin::

Any tips from any other people with "Skins Rooms"?

Rich, I did my sons room. I painted it white with burgundy trim got 2 Redskins boarders one at the top and one in the middle of the walls. All the shelfs are burgundy. I also put a small shelf all the around the room at the bottom of the top boarder, great place to put bobbleheads, trophies, pics and stuff

My entire basement is a Skins room. I told my wife she could make the whole house flowers and rainbows for all I care, as long as the basement is mine all mine.

At last counts, there are 206 signed 4x6 Redskin photos. 91 signed 8x10's, 19 11x14's, and eight 16x20's. 21 signed mini helmets, two signed full size helmets, and two signed footballs. It's all over the place, and I'm running out of space. Oh, and two huge signed posters that are the "center pieces", and a framed signed Darrell Green shirt (not a jersey). Beside all the autographed stuff, there are Redskins light switch covers and that kinda cheesy stuff. And for Christmas, my wife found me a hand made Redskins tiffany lamp that's actually really nice. All it really leaves room for is my PC, two leather reclyners, the big screen and home theatre. Oh and about 75 past Skins games on DVD. But it makes for a nice little spot to watch games.

I don't imagine that everyone wants to go this nuts with a room, but I met a guy in Maryland who's "Redskins" basement puts mine to shame. As far as tips, I think it should be classy or over-the-top ridiculous. I went with the latter.

If I had to keep just one piece, it'd be the "All-Time Greats" poster(s). But maybe I'm just partial to it because it's made from a collection of pencil drawings that I did. Darrell Green saw it and liked it and used my drawings on his retirement shirt. And a bunch of former Skins requested, and got, a copy of the poster from me. That stuff's pretty thrilling for a Skins fan like me. I have a picture of Sammy Baugh signing a small stack of these posters that still seems surreal to me. When I was drawing these pictures I thought it was just for kicks, I didn't think the players and fans would like them so much.

If I can figure out a way, I'll find a place for all my HOGS.net bretheren to browse, download and print these 4x6 "autograph cards". For free, of course, they're not licensed and I know better than to try to squeeze a penny from Dan Snyder. I design them specifically to be autographed. They're a little bigger than a football card, but not as space consuming as an 8x10, and the signature shows up better because it's not against a dark background, plus it's more uniformed than having cards from all different years. Everyone on this board has been so nice, I hope I can find a way to provide them to anyone who wants them.

I know that not everyone collects autographs, but I've had fun with it.

Yes, lots of Jerseys, just not displayed. I just wear them. They look great signed and discplayed, but they take up alot of space.

funny you guys should bring this up. i have a decent skins collection, and am a newlywed. well we are in the process of buying a house and right now we only have two bedrooms. my wife is gaying up the whole house as we speak. the argument of "we might as well leave it up we're only going to be here a couple months" didn't work. i had to take all of my stuff down, it saddened me to the point where i was pissed off all day long- no wait, im still pissed off. i polished off all my framed prints before i wrapped them up and i marked all my boxes w/ collectibles as "extremely fragile" needless to say that the first boxes moved and the first pictures hung in the new house will be my redskins stuff. i did salvage some pride and managed to keep the super bowl 17 print up in the bedroom aka the "pasadena sleigh ride" everything is ok though, coach gibbs is home

Maybe you could put it in a rectangular (airtight) glass or lucyte case, and gets some blurb etched into it. "Turf from RFK" or something.

Throw it onto fedex field for good luck. We could use something in that cavern.

Ok this is from a show on TLC while you were out, when Lavar was on there. They made goal posts of out of PVC pipe. They cut them in half and spray painted them yellow and glued them to the wall. It looked very cool. They also cut a football in half and mounted that between the posts.
There was a table as well. Football shaped covered in brown leather and the even put laces on it. It looked pretty cool.
The other thing we are doing for my sons room that isn't good for a very formal room but cute for a child's room or rec room. We are going to use a piece of the green indoor outdoor carpeting. (green grass looking), and paint yard lines and endzones on it and use it as a rug. I'm just looking for higher quality then I've found. I don't want it to be hard on his little feet.
Whenever I start to get blue, I just breathe!

My favortie line from the Simpsons:

Flanders: "Looks like someone is having a pre-rapture party!"

Homer: "No Flanders, it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion , you wouldn't be interested!"

That goal post thing sounds like a great idea. I've thought about the indoor/outdoor turf, too. But I'm afraid my dogs would see it as an invitation to use my shrine as a "comfort station".

If I did the turf thing, I think I'd paint the lines and numbers full size. I certainly don't have a room that's 100 yards long, so only a couple of numbers would be visible, but in my minds eye, something seems artistic about that.
