Why I'm a fan

Talk about the Washington Football Team here. Do you bleed burgundy and gold?

Why I'm a fan

Post by xhadow »

I know there are a lot of other stuff to talk about this week with the GB game coming up basically for second place in the NFC, but while I was watching Inside the NFL on HBO I finally saw the answer to why I am a skins fan. While I know most people here don't watch Inside the NFL due to the fact that they are really biased against the skins they did a very good story on the replacement players from the 1987 season (that thankfully had no references to Keanu Reeves).

That was my first year watching the skins and I remember my father telling me that regular people from around the area were playing for the Skins. I know that I was only 8 at the time but it made me feel like making it to the NFL was a posiblity and that it wasn't about who you had playing for you as long as you played as a team. Granted I never even made it into college football I never stopped being a fan.

I'm sorry for clogging up the board with this sentamental nonsense but I thought I should share this with people that would understand, especially since my girl is a pukes fan. If you get a chance to catch Inside the NFL on a rerun I am sure that you all as fans will not be disapointed.

Sorry bro you're wrong on that one.
I lived in Texas for three years left and moved back three years later for another two, and during the five years that I spent in Africa Killeen Tx. was my home of record (10 years). During that time I could find a Redskins Bar whit no plroblem at all. Been in J-ville almost 10 years and still looking for one.

Anyone who has ever met me has no doubt about what team I support, I can say the same thing for those that don't know me but have seen me out and about on a Friday (Jersey Friday year round  ) or Sunday. There's nothhing wrong with Texas, it's just that team in Texas.

I don't get the part about "biased against the skins". (I watch INSIDE THE NFL occasionally.) I don't really understand though why people on this board only seem to want to read or listen to people who do nothing but praise the Redskins.

There is plenty to criticize about pretty much any team in the NFL. Who cares? Its not politics. Most of these shows are just guys talking b.s. about football. If the Skins have three playoff seasons in a row, kicking butt along the way, all these experts will be singing our praises and calling Dan Snyder the NFL genius boy. Until then, you can hardly blame anybody for hedging their bets on the Skins.

You had me until this point. Even then, I do not think/expect the skins to get any love.

I, personally, would rather have the attention deflected from us. I think the skins play better that way. Poo on those who think otherwise. My 2 cents

I guess many of us, myself included, just dislike how even when the pukes go thru a bad yeah we still have to hear positive commentary on them for at least 5 to 10 minutes a day no matter what channel your watching or listening too.

I have lived in TX since 96 and been a diehard skins fan since grade school in the early 80s.....Love living here with the exception of cowboys 24/7. I proudly sport any and all redskins stuff even though it can be tough sometimes to be in the "lion's den". You would actually be quite surprised how many skins fans live here-even met a former skins player about 6 months ago who is friends of a friend

Given that Ft Hood is about the biggest Army base in the world, and draws Soldiers from all over, Killeen is a bit more like the nation than, say, Copperas Cove -- a next-door town where they pay the high school football coach $100,000 a year.

Given the mix of people, it's not surprising to see all the non Cowboys fans.

In fact, from my wide travels in Texas (meaning, if you go anywhere you travel a long way), it appeared that Texans are more devoted to UT ("hook 'em horns") than to the Cowboys. A lot of people follow Houston.

To live there? Wow...you need a lot of airconditioing, and when you scurry from car to store, you'd best do it before 10 or after 3 if you don't want to risk having the sun split your head in two. Not beautiful, but strange (stubby trees) to an easterner...and such long sweeping views.

Sure, a Redskin fan can live in Texas. I believe Sir Monk is temporarily elsewhere, but he usually signs in from Killeen.

Given the eminent Hog Netters who have lived in Texas, or still live there, I've tried to reform my impressions of the state.

And while we are on the subject, I am from DC, born and raised in the district and outside in the MD burbs. I have lived many places since then - Indiana which until very recently were all Cowpuke fans, the South (AL & GA) where they don't care about pro football, NYC home to the Giants and Jets and now Philly for the last 6 years. You can make fun of Philly fans all you want and it is warrented most of the time but the City of Philadelphia itself is pretty damn cool. My wife always wants to move back to DC or Baltimore and I don't want to leave because Philly has everything I want in a city - it's big, has lots to do culturally and sports wise, plenty of green space, racially and economically diverese and it only takes me two hours to ride down to a Skins game. Plus, and this is huge, I can own a house, two cars and send my kids to good schools whereas I would not be able to afford hardly any of that in DC.

So, make fun of Iggle fans but lay of the City of Brotherly Love. Those idiot Iggle fans are also seriousely passionate about the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers and don't act nearly as stupid in those settings.

I am a fan due to my moms family (live in Upper Marlboro right down the street from the staduim) When my dad (then a Raiders fan) married my mom my grandfather made him sit in the back of the room with only 1 6-pack for the whole sunday. After awhile he changed and became to love the 'Skins... and now I am... and proud of it !

Its all good I hate TX by the way or at least el paso, this is more mexico than it is US. I hear the rest of TX doesn't even claim el paso.

I was born outside of Charlotte, NC and raised in the DC metro area. We started as Colts fans but that ended the day (or night) that they left baltimore, my father pretty much raised me as a skins fan and both he and I worked at RFK on many a game day taking tickets.

I was raised as a skins fan and have watched as long as I can remember. I even stayed up after my parents made me go to bed when Theisman got his leg broke by LT(the one and only LT, forget the Chargers) and the skins turned that around and won the game with Schroeder! When my mom passed, one of the things I wanted most was her Redskins leather jacket she had gotten from Carl Banks when he played with the skins. Now, as I have children of my own, my son will wear his jerseys (he has a Moss and an Arrington) probably every day if I would let him. He was a Redskin two years ago for Halloween as well. He's not got the patience to sit for 3 hrs, but he'll be a great thrid generation Redskins fan!!!!!
...any given Sunday....

RIP #21 Sean Taylor. You will be loved and adored by Redskins fans forever!!!!!

I would rather be a Skin fan in texas, than a puke fan in DC
