That is the rumor right now. I think they are talking Samuels and a 5th rd. pick for Oakland's 1st rd. I could be wrong, but I believe that is the deal.

Samuels wasn't that good last year, and I will cast my vote in favor of that trade.

That would give us two first round picks.
We could get Gallery.and the safty from Miami.

Samuels had one bad year and you want to sign him off?

Look at how the offense was set up and look at who he was playing next to before you pass judgement on him. Samuels was constently facing bliztes and shifts in the oppopents defense. He was also next to a rookie, who even Spurrier said missed some assignments. During the Miami game when Ramsey got knocked out. The dolphins rushed three guys. Samuels dropped back SUPPOSED TO HAVE some inside help from Dockery, who didn't give it to him.

The offense was also said to have been fundementally flawed. I think Ramsey's bruises can tell you about one flaw. It wasn't just Samuels who was "screwing up" it was the whole offensive line. It wasn't just the line either. The running backs, full backs, and TE's were missing blocks. The whole system was just screwed up.

Samuels is a very good tackle. Bugel even said so himself. I can't wait to see him play under Bugel. I would love to see him on the line when the tradition of the HOGS is brought back to DC.

I'm not so sure Samuels ability is what this is about. The Skins have ask him to restucture and he hasn't. This is the very thing that scares me over the next few years. We have a ton of money backloaded and the Skins are counting on players restruturing or the cap going up. Winning will go a long way to helping players to decide to restruture...we shall see

I have read this Samuels rumor like everyone else, and everytime I think about it, it just doesn't make sense for either team. You mean to tell me that we are going to trade Samuels and the 5th round pick, to move up what, three spots!! That just doesn't make any sense.

Everyone seems to feel like the two QBs will be gone within the top four of the draft. So why then are we moving up again, besides getting rid of Samuels who is unwilling to restructure his contract? Turn around and then have to select Gallery to fill his spot? That just doesn't ring right to me. Someone else said it best, Bugel likes Samuels and Jansen too much for this to be true, IMO. I put no stock in this rumor.

no, not move up three picks but keep our #5 pick and get the #2 pick as well.

I just don't see this happening unless, as I have said before, there are issues behind closed doors that we don't hear

IF (and I am not saying he is - ahem - this is specifically for you Jakester ) IF he is poison in the locker room, or is giving the team some real grief behind closed doors, then it COULD happen, but since we have had reports about how nice this kid is I doubt it.

I see him coming to life and being worth Pace money if he gets it together. If not, and he shows us his butt again, then we HAVE to look at moving him out and replacing him. LT is no place for marginal or inconsistent talent.

My apologies, I see more value in the deal. I had forgotten that we would still have the #5 overall pick. That would make the rumor more feasible, but I still stand by my position that Bugel likes those two tackles too much to move one without getting "known" value out of the deal.

This deal looks unbelieveably great to me, I can't imagine anyone being upset about it! (save for Samuels, who would be missing out on a shiny new Super Bowl ring)

I mean, Chris Samuels, and a 5th rounder for the #2 overall pick and a boatload of cap room.

That means we get Robert Gallery (who rules all) AND Tayloy/Winslow/Harris all in the same draft plus a little breathing room cash wise. Despite my hatred of the Raiders, this is one of the greatest trades I've ever even heard of...

I hope it's true

Guys - there won't be a boatload of cap room this year - and that is a definite.

WE WILL BE PAYING MORE for letting him go this year - no savings - we will pay MORE.

He will actually cost like 500k-750k more if we release or trade him...

The signing bonus he is entitled to will not be prorated any longer... ALL of it will come due this year - over 9 million dollars worth. Since his salary cap hit is like 8.6 mil, we will lose money on this deal if we release or trade him.

Just to clarify for everyone thinking we will save money by not paying him his salary - we will still owe the whole signing bonus that is left on his contract time.

I live but to serve RR :)

I just want to make sure that our board is the most educated when it comes to talking Skins so that when we debate with other board fans we don't argue with "um... uh huh!" :)

I guess I'm too much of a baseball guy thinking his $$$ just disappears.

Still, I'd do this trade... Robert Gallery will be a monster and we can cut Trung for some room can't we? (or would he cost money to cut?)

no - he has no signing bonus :)

If you look at a guy's contract - the signing bonus is where teams get conked in the head - especially on long contracts with huge bonuses.

20 mil signing bonus over 5 years is a 4 mil a year hit... and if they release that player after two years they take an 8 mil hit or two more 4 mil hits depending on the release/trade date.

You can see all of the contract info on the Skins right here on this site by going to the home page and looking in team info - the salary cap table is there... if they have long contracts and huge bonus hits - THOSE are the least likely to be released.

Trung costs 900k a year with no signing bonus - we would be saving a pure 900k this year.

I don't think this deal will happen, especially after considering the comments by skinsfaninroanoke. But....if it did....can you just imagine how pissed those Giants would be if we took Gallery? I say they'd probably be so pissed...that they take Taylor away from us at #4!!!

Well, with any luck by the Giants they'll have Eli Manning and won't need to bother with any more picks for the next few seasons :)

But yeah, they'd take Taylor (not out of spite, he fills a team need) and it would be a blessing in disguise IMO, Kellen Winslow Jr will be a Hall of Famer and team leader, either that or trade down a couple spots, I think Harris, Smith, Udeze, Wilfork, and Starks are all pretty similar in skill so I feel safe with trading down if we already use the 2, we'd at least get one of those defensive line beasts)

::shrug:: heckuva question - I have just been responding to it... I keep saying I don't really believe it but it is fun to talk about. Just like the rumor that NE is gonna trade both first rounders to us to move up to the 5th pick. I don't think so, but it is nice to dream.

Heck - that is what offseason is about - to think perchance to dream... or somesuch nonsense... :)

If wishes were fishes we'd all be casting burgundy colored nets into the water...

This is a rumor started by someone on an ESPN board. He/She lied and said Peter King reported it but he hasn't. There is nothing to talk about except for the fact that this trade would be the dumbest trade ever.

what would be dumb would be to keep a guy that is overpaid and refuses to restructure his contract.

I can't imagine why Oakland would do this trade!!! Samuels is a good tackle but is he better than Gallery? I don't know. Gallery is considered the only sure thing in the draft this year. Samuels had an off-year last year which should put questions into the mind of any NFL exec. I still think he's a pro bowl caliber player, but Gallery could be the next Tony Boselli. I would jump at this trade if offered.

Tony Boselli lasted what 5 yrs between jacksonville and houston I hope gallery has a longer career than that ....Chris should be vastly improved this year considering there will be actual coaching going on this year
