If You Have Small Children, Read This

Drugstores began clearing their shelves of over-the-counter cough and cold medicine designed for infants yesterday after leading manufacturers announced they were withdrawing the products amid rising concerns about the safety of the popular remedies.

The decision to pull 14 products, including well-known brands such as Dimetapp Decongestant Plus Cough Infant Drops, Tylenol Concentrated Infants' Drops Plus Cold and Robitussin Infant Cough DM Drops, came one week before the Food and Drug Administration plans to hold a hearing on nonprescription cough and cold medications for children.

The hearing is part of a broad evaluation of the products the agency launched in light of doubts about their effectiveness and mounting evidence the medications can cause serious complications, including severe hallucinations and agitation, seizures, high blood pressure, and heart and breathing problems that can be fatal in rare cases.

Anyone who can read and has a brain should not be effected by this recall. On EVERY box of this medicine what was written clearly expressed that it was not safe. It actually said for dosage of children under the of two please consult a physician. Marlee is sick and the other day we were looking for saline nose drops as recommended by her pediatrician, and we saw all of the medicines labeled this way. I said to Scott how silly it was that the box said infant yet it says clearly on the box not to give them to an infant. I guess someone overheard what I said in the store! HA
Whenever I start to get blue, I just breathe!

My favortie line from the Simpsons:

Flanders: "Looks like someone is having a pre-rapture party!"

Homer: "No Flanders, it's a meeting of gay witches for abortion , you wouldn't be interested!"

You're asking a lot from people to be able to read and to have a brain. Seriously, anyone with small children is already paranoid enough about everything without things like this adding to it. Even if the doctor says to give my 3 month old one of these medications, if the label says "Under Two" I simply won't use it. I've read too many cases of liver damage, brain damage, accidental poisoning ... Call me uber-paranoid.
My 2 cents

Just for clarification we were giving her saline drops (salt water). Same stuff my grandmother used on my mom for her congestion and same thing my mom used on me for mine. Not one of these medications.

I wasn't questioning you in any way. I get misunderstood so easily. Ask anyone. Or see my signature.
