KW2 Resume.....Impressive
Prospect Profiles
Kellen Winslow
Position: Tight End
College: Miami (Fla.)
Height: 6-4
Weight: 243
Hometown: San Diego, Calif.
Analysis | Agility | High School | Personal
OVERVIEW
One of the finest tight ends to ever suit up in the storied Miami Hurricanes history … Has the same fiery nature, awesome athletic ability and "true warrior" attitude that his father, Hall of Famer Kellen Winslow, Sr., showed during his glorious career with the San Diego Chargers … The two-year starter hauled in 119 passes for 1,365 yards (11.5 avg.) and nine touchdowns in 38 games … His 119 catches rank fifth on the school's career-record list and were the most ever by a Miami tight end.
ANALYSIS
Positives: Well-built with good muscle tone, long arms, broad shoulders and thick, long legs … Has excellent agility, quickness, balance and body control for his position … Smart player who easily recognizes the plays … Strong character who is a very competitive athlete, doing whatever it takes to improve and succeed … Releases off the line instantly, using a very effective overhand move to escape the jam … Used as a seam threat, showing the acceleration to challenge cornerbacks on deep routes … Very fluid in his movements, timing the pass perfectly to extend for it at its high point … Sharp and crisp in and out of his breaks, creating great separation with his cuts … Flexible athlete who can make the tough body adjustments going for the ball in traffic … Has large, soft, natural hands, doing a fine job of catching the ball away from the body's frame … Has that extra gear needed to elude defenders after the catch and the leg drive and savvy to break through arm tackles … Improving blocker who does an effective job of getting movement at the point of attack … Will stalk and neutralize the linebackers when blocking in the second level (see 2003 Pitt game) … Fits up into the hole well when going in motion and can seal off and create some space at the point of attack … Looks very athletic running routes, tracking the ball in over his shoulders with no problems … Comes back quickly when the quarterback is pressured, sinking in to get to the underneath tosses … One of his best assets is his ability to take punishing hits, yet keep on moving to gain extra yardage … Has ideal "make you miss" juking moves in the open.
Negatives: Still needs to be more consistent as a blocker (more of a big-play type), but has worked hard to improve in this area … Fiery competitor, but sometimes lets his emotions get the better of him (needs to stay in check, because when he gets flustered, he does not play up to his ability) … Better blocker in space, as he needs room to get into the defender and does not have the ideal power to sustain at the point of attack … His frame is a little lean for a tight end, but additional weight could negate his above-average foot speed.
AGILITY TESTS
4.62 in the 40-yard dash … 340-pound bench press … 33-inch vertical jump.
HIGH SCHOOL
Attended Scripps Ranch (San Diego, Calif.) High, playing football for coach Kevin Hedges … One of the nation's most highly regarded all-around players who played extensively at three different positions (receiver, tight end and defensive end) during his career … Caught 45 passes for 800 yards and nine touchdowns in his senior season of 2000 … Made 32 catches for 600 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior in 1999 … Collected 115 tackles, eight sacks and five fumble recoveries, in addition to three interceptions and three forced fumbles as a senior on defense … Named his Conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2000 … Also punted and kicked off on special teams as a senior … Averaged 39 yards on 36 punts as a senior (one of his punts traveled 85 yards) … Made three of five field goal attempts, including a 35-yarder and was 10 of 12 on conversion kicks … Recorded 32 tackles and 13 quarterback sacks with three fumble recoveries and one interception on defense in 1999 … Rated the No. 41 prospect, regardless of position, in California by Super Prep … Rated the No. 6 "Jumbo Athlete" in the nation by Super Prep in the summer of 2000 … Honor Roll student.
PERSONAL
Open major … Son of Kellen Winslow and Katrina Ramsey … Father is an NFL Hall of Fame tight end, a former San Diego Chargers and University of Missouri star who currently is a motivational speaker and television sports analyst … Uncle, David Winslow, played college basketball at Northeast Missouri State and professionally in Australia … Born Kellen Boswell Winslow II on July 21, 1983 … Resides in San Diego, Calif.

Notwithstanding sounding like a broken record, we have Portis, Coles and a solid lineup of WR's behind him, etc etc on offense, two capable QB's. D should be our main concern in the draft. Gibbs said it, D wins championships. I agree Winslow's a playmaker but we can get buy with a solid blocking TE who can catch some balls but we can't get buy without filling a few more holes on D...
I'll shut up now..

The opinion of 10,000 men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject.

Kellen Winslow Jr.
Ht/Wt: 6-3 251 (Official)
College: Miami
40 Time: 4.5 (Official)
225 lbs. Bench Press:
Strength: Speed, Hands, Toughness... Very Quick off the line
Weakness: Not Much! Could use a little more bulk, improve blocking, again similar to Sean Taylor he has that typical Miami swagger that Shockey and Ray Lewis also carries which can come off as too confident or arrogant.
Projection: Top 5 First Round Pick
NFL Comparison: Todd Heap or Shannon Sharpe
NFL Potential Outcome: Superstar (Scale: Average, Good, Superstar)
Personal Info: Born 7/21/83... full name is Kellen Boswell Winslow II ... undecided on a major... his father is NFL Hall of Fame tight end Kellen Winslow, a former San Diego Chargers and University of Missouri star who currently is a motivational speaker and television sports analyst... an uncle, David Winslow, played college basketball at Northeast Missouri State and professionally in Australia... chose Miami over Michigan State, Washington, UCLA, Texas, Michigan, Southern California and Ohio State... son of Kellen Winslow and Katrina Ramsey. .

This is what I am talking about. We need an H Back. Talent is in his blood. He would add a new demension to our offense and make our offense perfect. We need to go get K2. Forget about all that stuff with the Postsons and go get this man.

You don't have to shut up because you are makin total sense. A can not believe people are in favor of Winslow when our defense looks like swiss cheese. C'mon folks, what will it matter if we have him when Troy Hambrick is capable of gashing us for 200 yards?? Trade down and get a lineman, please!!

Those aren't just negatives, those are hard knocks. Joe is looking for another Don Warren or even another Clint Didier. Kellen Winslow is better suited for a team that needs another Shockey, minus the blocking skills. What we need is Walter Rasby, and we have him. I mean in no way to say that KWII will not be a marquee player in this league. That's over my head, since I'm no psychic. What I mean to say is that we just don't need to tie up a whole pantload of money at TE.
If we get Holdman, put me down for Sean Taylor. If his visit with Joe goes well, that's my pick.

The Skins have ranked near the top in defense a few times recently and NOT made the playoffs. An ELITE defense can really do things, Tampa, Baltimore, etc., but the Skins are more than one defensive player from being elite. Especially after losing Champ.
Teams like the Rams have won Championships with (almost) offense alone. Now, even in my most delirious offseason optimism, I cannot liken the Skins offense to the Rams. But more often than not, a team with NO defense, goes the way of the Chiefs. Nice regular season record followed by a quick playoff exit.
My belief is that you need NO glaring weaknesses, and players in various spots that can beat you. Right now, I think those players are Portis, Coles and Arrington. That's two to one in favor of the offense. If Winslow and Taylor are both "can't miss future pro-bowlers", you gotta take Taylor. Or, if you think the D-Line is a glaring weakness and the draft can remedy that, then go that way.
Remember the lesson of Desmond Howard. Oh, he'll be a nice compliment to what we have. I would EXPECT Winslow to be drafted if the decision was Snyder's. Let's hope it isn't...

Chili Palmer you are wrong about the Rams. When the Rams won the Superbowl against the Titans they had the #1 ranked Defense along with that great offense! We need to improve our Defense! Offense can only take you so far! Examples (Colts, Chiefs, Vikings-like every year) etc! Trade down and take Kenechi Udeze!!

I agree all the way. I like Taylor and will be satisfied if we draft him. My preference would be to trade down and take Wilfork, Harris, or Udeze in that order. There is a part of me that feels Udeze just wont be that dominant at this next level.
