the d line played great. anytime you can pressure the qb with only 4 DL then your doing your job up front. i don't even recall the skins blitzing more than a handfull of times

Not to mention they held Detroit to 68 net rushing yards TOTAL! Nice job, especially considering the D frequently only had 7 in the box, and was focused more on the pass. Lots of people (myself included) really questioned why we failed to get D-line help in the draft. Gibbs & Co. decided to go with who we had already on the roster. Looks like it's paying off. Good call, Joe.

thats because detroit runs their offense like Steve Spurrier did. Does anyone remember all the sacks we gave up each game?

Carter was a beast. I especially liked the way he body slammed the Tackle before getting the safety. On that safety, it looked like Kitna laid down and begged Carter not to hit him again.

Is it me or does Gregg Williams tell his guys to take off their helmet before they tackle.

The defense game plan was obviously based on the assumption that the front four would get the job done. I did not see 7 in the box as some of you suggest above. I saw only four most of the times, a buffer zone of about 8 to 10 yards and -SEVEN- players waiting for Calvin Jones and Co.

They did not see that one coming ... and neither did I. I (and probably the Lions) thought this was going to be a game of blitzes versus passing. They prepared for that. It was not.

Evans, Griffin and Carter played a great game. It is a good win but please let' us keep it in perspective. The Lions OL is one of the worst in the NFL based on the number of sacks.

Your right, Kitna is sacked a lot this year, that's why we spotted them on four rushers, LoL.

He looked sooo slow on the play when (I think it was) Demetric Evans came ALL the way around on a stunt and he couldn't run away from him...
Sean Taylor was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

I kept waiting for Martz to make an adjustment, to just take the 5 yards the 'Skins were giving... but he didn't... I don't think it would have mattered, because, with Landry and Taylor, Williams would have had an answer for that, as well...

Here are my thoughts:

(1) Yes, the DL absolutely gets a game ball. They were awesome the entire game. They were getting to Kitna even without blitzing...and they were getting to him a lot.

(2) Because of the pressure, our secondary looked great. No WRs broke free for long gains and we basically held them in check. See what happens when the DL plays well?!?!?

(3) Our LBs also played very well against the run. The Lions really had nothing going in the air, or on the ground.

All in all, I definitle give the defense an A+ in this game!

Even the offense and special teams looked great as well.

When you get right down to it, this as an entire team effort, highlighted by the play of the DL.

I hope this continues.

This is how you win games, peoples.

Oh but yes, he did. He actually started the second half abandoning the long pass attempts entirely and trying to establish a running game for those 5 to 10 yards in the buffer zone.

The DL line was able to handle it with a bit of luck and tons of hard work. P. Daniels, separated shoulder notwithstanding, made some key run stops. But the attempt was almost futile. A safety put them two scores behind and the perception of a run=heavy time-expensive game plan began to take them away from this approach.

This game was won with great game planning. can we have another Bye Week before every game, PLEASE?

I think a lot of folks around the league AND the media need to take note of our d-line. It's not the best in the league, but it's far better than many were willing to give credit.

Gibbs and Williams got absolutely hammered in the off-season for not trying to improve our d-line. Williams maintained the entire time that he was confident in our existing personnel and did not see a need to waste draft picks or free agent money to upgrade a position he knew we already had talent at.

For as much criticism the organization took from the media, I'm not surprised fakes like JLC haven't come forward to admit they may have been wrong. It takes a 'man' to admit when they're wrong, and some of these writers and TV personalities are far from it.

Lets take a quick look at some of the rookies our team needed so bad...

Player - Tackles - Solo - Sacks

Amobi Okoye - 14- 13- 4
Gaines Adams - 10- 7- 0
Jamal Anderson - 12- 9- 0
Adam Carriker - 5- 4- 0
Alan Branch - 0- 0- 0

Andre Carter - 17- 13- 4
Cornelius Griffin - 14- 11- 2

 Griff and Dre' have more sacks to date than all of those others combined.

Note to JLC & ESPN - You don't know squat! ;furious;

C-griff's playing well, I thought he was average at best, he sure proved me wrong. AC has come into beast mode since game 1, he's been getting there, but they were either redirecting him or cut blocking him, he has actually got to touch QBs on the speed rush, he rarely gets stuffed on his rush. P-diddy (Daniels) is holding his own and then some. I really thought that there will be a glaring big hole with Big Joe gone, but we are doing fine. I still miss the big guy though

Favre has made a career out of forcing throws into tight coverage. It's a feast or famine approach that has him in the record books for both touchdowns and interceptions. Let's hope this week is famine.

It's just like that SB a few years back when Martz's Rams lost to the Pats (before they became the dynasty they are now, and they were actually the underdogs). The NE defense was focusing on the pass almost exclusively in that game as well, yet Martz refused to change it up, even with an in-his-prime Marshall Faulk in the backfield. The ultimate split of pass/run plays was something like 44/14 for the Rams, and they of course lost because Martz refused to develop any sort of commitment to the run. Sometimes, I think Martz prefers to lose with the pass rather than win with the run.
