Official Lions@Redskins Gameday Thread
Hey against the Giants I started the thread a couple minutes before the game, maybe that was bad luck...
Anyway, i've said it before, the key to this game will be Carlos Rogers..I think Smoot and Springs can contain their receivers to a degree, but if Rogers plays like he did against NY then we have no shot...
Also we need to see Sean Taylor help out with roy willaims..
Anyway Go Skins!

I am so stupid. I told my good for nothing nephew that he and his dopey friends could go to either the Lions or Cardnals game. Well, needless to say the dope and his dippy friends told me they would stop by last night to get the tickets and never showed. Since we were not planning to go today my wife and kids are away and I planned on going into the office for a bit. I hate the fact that there will be four empty seats in the stadium and its my fault because I believed that slacker punk of a nephew of mine would come through.
Go Skins, I guess I will watch on TV

It's bad luck to have someone who picked Detroit in Hognostications start the Official Gameday thread.
http://www.the-hogs.net/Hognostications/picks.htm
I refuse to turn this into yet another "Let's attack the Redskins secondary" thread. There are more than enough of those already.
The key to this game is getting pressure on Jon Kitna without blitzing. I would expect to see the Redskins in "nickel" and "dime" defensive schemes all game long because a cover 3 doesn't work if you're trying to cover four or five receivers. The last thing the Redskins want is a linebacker trying to cover any of Detroit's wide receivers.
Therefore, I don't think we will see much in the way of safety or cornerback blitzes. We will most likely see "SAM" or "MIKE" blitzes and man coverage in the secondary. If the Redskins sit in a zone defense, Jon Kitna will pick them apart. TWOCENTS
Offensively, Detroit surrenders nearly as many passing yards as they average on offense. I would hope the Redskins would go full throttle on the passing attack, regardless of which receivers are available. I am convinced that if the Redskins run the same four and five wide receiver sets that they will see from Detroit, the Redskins will win the shootout.
I would take the Redskins defense to hold Detroit under 24 points long before I would take Detroit's defense to hold Washington under 24 points. TWOCENTS

If I were in your position, I would skip the office and start packing. You could get to FedEx in plenty of time. Of course, you realize this is jealousy on my part because I don't even have the tickets.

I think I have to agree here, and not just because I reside in Florida.

As much as I'd like to see the passing game open up, and I know the Lions pass defense is lousy, I agree we may see a lot of Portis and Betts today. Of course, that may change if we get way behind. They'll take their shots down field, but I predict a lot of running, screens and short to midrange passes to sustain longs drives and keep Kitna and company off the field.

This week i picked against the skins, and started the thread a day before the game.
We should win this game now that i did this
I don't believe in superstitions. By picking against the Redskins you leave yourself open to criticism and cheap shots. As most everyone knows I'm more than happy to both criticize and take cheap shots. I just don't understand the philosophy of picking against the Redskins and claiming to want them to win. It confuses me. I am, however, easily confused.

Early in the game, if one of our safeties has to draw one of those "you hit that poor reciever too hard" sympathy flags, so be it. If it takes a few inches off their reach for the rest of the game, mission accomplished. A 6'7" reciever with a 2 foot reach kinda equalizes things a bit, dont ya think?

I think you're exaggerating the height factor a little. Calvin Johnson is the Lions tallest receiver at 6'5" and he may not play. He is still listed as Questionable. These numbers are from the Detroit Lions website:
86 Walters, Troy WR 5-8 171 30 8 Stanford
81 Johnson, Calvin WR 6-5 235 22 R Georgia Tech
84 McDonald, Shaun WR 5-10 183 26 5 Arizona State
11 Williams, Roy WR 6-3 220 25 4 Texas
87 Furrey, Mike WR 6-0 195 30 5 Northern Iowa
I bet we see a sick Redskins passing attack today! I knew we needed to D to carry us the first few weeks of the season til our O got rolling....as we saw vs. the NY Midgets...we still aren't there yet.
Two weeks off.....new receivers......horrible Lions D.
All I'm saying is don't be surprised if the Redskins O lights it up today and destroys the Lions.
My prediction...Skins 41-Lions 17
HAIL!

lets go skins!!!! cant wait for this to get going... gibbs is all reved up, our O needs to prove somthing and were coming off a bye week so we are rested. I think we are going to show the league that we are not to be thrown by the way side. this is the week for us to start taking this seriously. if we are to make a run to the playoffs we are going to have to beat teams like the lions and we can.
our D is hard hitting and can pressure qbs. we have a great run stopper in fletch and a punishing secondary.
our O is filled with weapons but hasnt been executing. they must be pumped to prove who they really are.
i think the crowd today in fedex is going to bring a lot of energy to a rested football team. if the lions arnt scared, they should be.

Thats a nice image LostHog!
We need a win bad today. I feel like our backs are against the wall because we definitely do not want to go 2-2. We would be in 3rd place because we lost to the giants. I think the team feels that a 2-2 start is bad business and we should be able to pull out a win today.
Hail!

This is the first time I have watched the Fox and ESPN pregame shows this year because I usually go to the game and the one road game was a MNF. What the Hell happened to these pregame shows? It's all just goofy nonsense and both chanels (Fox and ESPN) have all these Ex-Cowboys. Barry Switzer is on TV? When did that happen?
